Carrier AT&T Store iPhone 7 launch info

yeah. camp out is only worth it if you KNOW there's a supply of what you want.. Otherwise a total waste. No true love of a PLUS would accept a 4.7" on launch day just to have one.. They MIGHT accept a different color... and then return it when their preordered 7+ came in. You only have 14 days to return an iPhone and you pay a restocking fee.. Keep in mind. And you may have to pay full price for it too as I don't think AT&T will allow ordering two phones on 1 line. I really seriously messed up my account last year by my buyer's remorse.. having pre-ordered a 6S - and then wanting a 6Splus. Found one, amazingly a SpaceGray 6SPlus 64GB at a local small mall ATT store around noon on Launch Day.

I just called my local att store, spoke to the manager and he said they are only getting 10 pluses and he doesn't know what colors I'm going to call tomorrow evening and see if he will tell me if they have any matte blacks. By the sound of things they won't, or if they do, they won't have any 128gb, just 32s.

I'm in a similar situation and was wondering how did you mess up your account?

What I have coming in on Friday afternoon is a 7 matte but I want the jet black instead. I was thinking of going in 2 hours early for it too. Since you can't buy two phones on one line, what do you think I should do? TIA
 
I can say that my store received between 6-8 matte black iPhone 7, and about 4-7 gold iPhone 7. No other colors.
 
how about the following day? will they get stocks or is it till next week?

That's what I'm going to do. As soon as I have verification that they have the phone I want and I am gaurunteed it, I will then cancel my apple order. If they don't have what I want, I will not settle and just get a phone for the sake of getting one, I will just keep my apple preorder and pray it gets here before my original estimation.

That was my original plan, I have a jet black plus on order that should arrive between oct 4-10, but after hearing all the reviews about jet black I'm just trying to buy a matte black on friday, and compare that to the jet black when it arrives. Then return to sell whichever I don't like

Yeah I feel like that is the best play. Although I'm just concerned as I have no idea if my local ATT store will have a high demand/early line since this is my first time living here during a major launch. I'm hoping 6am will be early enough!

The thing by playing it safe, keeping your apple order but go to a store hoping to get lucky, is, if you get a phone Friday in the configuration you are comfortable with, then it's a win. If you don't, apple usually ramps up production and since you never canceled, you wont lose your spot in the "apple" line and you should receive it sooner than expected, again, a win.

Oh of course. I'm not touching my preorder unless I'm holding the same phone in my hand! Haha

I agree. But what do you do if they have the right size and color but different storage? I'm a 128 guy but if they only have 256 I'll be tempted. 32 is unusable for me.

I have thought of that too. Definitely wouldn't go for 32gb but I'm not sure what I'd do if they only had 256

Information is coming from a District Manager for corporate AT&T stores in the Northeast.

- AT&T stores will be receiving stock this Weds and Thurs.

- No Jet Black Plus models (5.5") on launch day. But stores will receive very limited qty for iPhone 7 (4.7") JB.

- iPhone 7 (4.7") will be the plentiful (Compatitively). Plus models (5.5") will all be very limited in all colors (Remember, no Jet Black Plus models on launch day)

- Higher performing stores will receive more stock.

- Plus JB models (5.5") are arriving as they come. But no launch day! Expected shipment date to the stores is week of the 19th. All Store Managers are instructed not to hold any stock for anyone. First come, first serve.

- Stores are instructed not to reveal exact numbers but to answer "Limited quanities"

- Only the larger 3rd party authorized stores will receive limited stock. Very very limited (Best Buy, Radio Shack..). All other 3rd party stores may not receive any stock.

- All locations have black out dates for PTO (Personal Time Off) for the next 2 weeks. Stores will be fully staffed.

- Store Managers are expected to be on the floor assisting all employes (More staff on the floor to assist with the busy launch)

- AT&T stores will be opening at 8 AM on Friday.

- All stores are given petty cash to purchase goodies for people who stand in line (Donuts, water, keychains.. etc..)

- The most Senior Managers of the stores will speak to the local media only. No store associates are allowed to speak with the media without permission from Store Manager.

- All employees are not allowed to set aside phones for themselves to purchase when stock arrives. Must order online or wait in line like everyone else (For the employees that don't have to work that day can go stand in line)

I will be meeting up with him for a drink today. Will update more as days get closer.

***UPDATE 9/14/2016 9:53 AM***

- Stores are already receiving there first batch of stock today. They are receiving them by model. 4.7" phones are arriving today and 5.5" arriving tomorrow. Supplies for all 5.5" models are very very tight. But remember, no Jet Black Plus 5.5" on launch day.

- Remember, employees can not tell you how many they have in stock. If you ask nicely they can tell you "Some" or "Alot" or "Probably very little"

- Please make sure you have your passcode handy. If you did not create one, please call AT&T to create one. You may need that to make changes to the account. You probably don't need it, but you don't want the lack of remembering your passcode to hinder you getting your phone.

- Employees CAN NOT hold your phone for you. They will be passing out tickets as you stand in line, but you need to remain in line to get your phone (Don't walk off and go shopping)

***UPDATE 9/14/2016 11:44 AM***

- Many stores did not receive much quantity for the first batch. Store employees are not happy because they have sales metrics they need to meet per month (If you don't meet them, disciplinary action can occur if you do not meet your numbers every month).

- I was not told exact numbers but here is what my friend said about one of his larger stores (In a major metro area inside the largest shopping mall in the county)

iPhone 7 (4.7")
Jet Black - Extremely Low
Matte Black - Very Low
Silver - Some
Gold - Some
Pink - Low

iPhone 7 Plus (5.5")
No word yet, those will be trickling in today and mostly tomorrow. Will update when I hear word.

Folks, it doesn't look good as far as stock goes for AT&T Stores. Better start queuing up early.

- Some stores reported no stock on certain colors for iPhone 7 (4.7") such as Pink or Matte Black. Wow.

- There is major concern among all AT&T stores. My friend will be on a regional conference call shortly about how to handle talk tracks to customers about the low stock.

This sucks, i wasn't able to reserve one in the Apple store for the first time in years and now i am going to take a chance at my local ATT store in our Mall. Good news/Bad news, the good news is that i live an hour north of San Francisco away from all the big areas so our lines are nothing compared to other apple stores.Bad news is our store is far away from big city's thus not get much stock for being small. I just called and there was only a couple people in line last year but....That was for a s model and not on peoples upgrade cycle.....God this sucks taking a chance..
 
Hearing this amount of detail is great. Hopefully tomorrow we will see more carriers and more details of what could be available friday morning.
 
Just stopped by my local ATT store and found that people have lined up the night before for previous launches. Bummer. I have a couple options between 2 ATT Stores and a Best Buy so it looks like early Friday morning I'll scout, pick the most promising line and hope for the best. Gotta say my confidence of acquiring a launch day phone is at an all time low
