Absolutely insane, especially this long after the promo started. I could understand some launch day or even first weekend confusion, but at this point its just blatant incompetence from the store managers to train their staff.
Let's also not forget the employees on chat and phone who constantly give out false information.

I swear the only proper way to deal with a carrier is to purchase your device from Apple unlocked and contact a Loyalty department when you want to save on service potentially. Otherwise it's like navigating through a war zone dealing with carrier employees.

Activation Fees are for New Lines and Upgrade Fees are for existing Lines. We added 1 new line and upgraded 2 existing lines.

I am not sure how other reps are doing it. I did not request them to do it this way so I assume this is how they normally do it.

well I got it locked down

1- going to get upgrade waived
2- confirmed $800 on credits is on track, with retroactive applying for months that are billing before it does
3- that upgrade fee waived won't impact the deal
4- that I'll be paying $6.63 once it takes effect

Thanks for the confirmation and encouragement

wooo

Anyone who lives in Chicago and went to a AT&T store to trade in their phone ?Because I can’t find a competent AT&T to do the $800 promo.

Does anyone know if they still have those 2 year contract automatic $450 off a phone deals on the Iphone 12 through retention/loyalty that they had for a while ?

Maybe a dumb question: I purchased an iPhone 12 Pro that arrived last week, but will not be activating it for 10 more days since it is a gift. Do I need to activate it and turn in my old phone (an iPhone X) to AT&T before the promotion ends to still qualify for for the $800 trade in offer?

From what I've gathered it says "30 days from activation" (for trade in)... I want to add a line for my daughter and give it to her for Christmas...

so... I'd like to know if I can buy it now, and keep it in it's box until Christmas and activate it at that time, then still get the credits.

Everything I've determined it that you need to buy the phone before tomorrow (12/12P) and then the only deadline I have found is you just have to turn in your old phone within 30 days after activation of the new phone.

What did you tell the rep.. waive the activation fee? How often do you upgrade, does it depend on that?
FWIW I was able to get a credit for the activation fee today. I checked my bill and it let me contest it, and I got an instant $30 back. SO look for that little extra deal as well.

How do you opt out of activation fee/upgrade fee charge on the bill by yourself?
Just log in to view your bill online and locate the $30 charge. There should be a link entitled "what is this?" that you can click on. Once you do, you can dispute the charge (they offer you a variety of buttons you can click on for reasons). I did this and was credited immediately.

Chances are they may treat that how a Credit Card company treats a dispute. They will credit the charge immediately until they are done investigating the dispute. In this case, it is obviously a valid fee so would get added back.

I could be wrong though as I have never done it.

I think they're talking about doing this on AT&T's site directly. So the CC company wouldn't even be involved.

No, I am not saying they would be involved at all. I am using how credit card companies treat disputes as an example.

They are 'disputing' a valid charge so my assumption is AT&T will review the dispute and add the charge back.

Update....just received email confirmation from AT&T stating they have received and processed my trade in. It was an 8+. That was smooth and easy. After going to 1 corporate store and calling 2 corporate stores and all not knowing crap or pretending to not know I just shipped it myself to AT&T.

How long did it take to receive the email after the phone arrived at AT&T? Mine arrive Tuesday morning according to tracking but the AT&T status still shows it as in transit.

I think its better to call AT&T to get the fee waived than dispute it on the account , for reasons mentioned above. More straight forward.

If its disputed, they might come back saying - what is it ?its an upgrade/activation fee

I did mine all online, I'll keep the thread updated, but 3 days so far ann paid my bill and nothing from ATT. So still got the activation fee waived.
