Update....just received email confirmation from AT&T stating they have received and processed my trade in. It was an 8+. That was smooth and easy. After going to 1 corporate store and calling 2 corporate stores and all not knowing crap or pretending to not know I just shipped it myself to AT&T.
I ended up doing that as well and shipped mines today because of the same problem.

I upgraded my two lines with two iPhone 12, and am awaiting the shipping materials to send our 11 and XR as trades. When I traded my XR in for an iPhone 11 4 months ago it went smoothly, and I am hoping for the same on these two.

Did everyone received the same shipping materials I did - a very small, thin bubble mailer? AT&T wants me to ship my phone back in that?!? Has anyone shipped their phone back in a box and used the label provided?

I’m contemplating which option has the greatest chance of success and not getting screwed up - mailing it in or going to an AT&T corporate store? Anyone had good or bad experiences either at?

Dumb question - how long after you select to return your device does AT&T free up the line to buy a new phone? I selected to return my iPhone 12 Pro yesterday through Apple, but today when I went to order the iPhone 12 Pro Max it showed that first I have to pay off the iPhone 12 Pro :-/.

Question: Did the order on Apple.com, selected AT&T upgrade, monthly payment plan, and then selected Next program for $5 extra a month (upgrade in 15 months). Does that disrupt the $700 trade-in credit for this particular promotion, and if not, how would that work if I upgrade in 15 months, instead of keeping the phone for the full 30 months to receive all the credits?

you will lose the remainder (15 months) of the bill credits

Is it now $700 for all 4 models effective today as was presumed to be the situation?
Yes, all 4 models qualify for the $700 in credits.

Eligible Devices:

  • Eligible PurchasedSmartphones
    • iPhone XS 64GB ($900), 256GB ($1050), 512GB ($1250)
    • iPhone XR 64GB ($500), 128GB ($550)
    • iPhone 11 Pro 64GB ($900), 256GB ($1050), 512GB ($1250)
    • iPhone 11 Pro Max 64GB ($1000), 256GB ($1150), 512GB ($1350)
    • iPhone 12 mini 64GB ($700), 128GB ($750), 256GB ($850)
    • iPhone 12 64GB ($800), 128GB ($850), 256GB ($950)
    • iPhone 12 Pro 128GB ($1000), 256GB ($1100), 512GB ($1300)
    • iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB ($1100), 256GB ($1200), 512GB ($1400)

I completed the form and only get a $450 credit for my 64gb iPhone 11 Pro Max?

$450 is above the $95 threshold you’ll get $700 in credits

I would sell it separate though, find an iPhone 8 to give them, and “profit”

11 pro max is too good to give to att / has high enough resell you could flip it and pay similar out of pocket without credits and a locked phone

If you can still trade-in at a corporate store after receiving a trade-in kit, then absolutely do so.

I thought the same thing when I saw that bubble mailer. I mailed mine back in a box with their label. No issues it was delivered just waiting for it to be processed.

it should be applied no problem, but you'll only end up netting $350 off if you trade in after 15 months.
Also they’ll pay $5 more each month for a total of $75. I don’t think it’s really that good of a deal unless you upgrade every year anyway. I was initially going to do this but I have a business line on my account that will be paid off before the next iPhone comes out so I decided that if I want the new one I will keep the 12 pro and pass it off to a family member. At only $6.64 a month it’s a no brainer.

I tried to do this but if you already filled out the online form with the imei of the phone you want to trade in it blocks that phone from being able to get traded in at the store. They even went through the entire process at the store to show me what it says “error: device is already in process of being traded in” something like that.

Did you use the promo code? It should say “promo selected” or something like that.

Huh. Figured that might be the issue.

I can't believe how terrible the AT&T trade-in kits appear to be.

How do people trade in their phones through the mail instead of going to a corporate AT&T store where it is 'instant' ? Any particular reason why?

Some people probably find it easier to just mail something in versus visiting a store. Also several people in this thread have had issues attempting the trade-in at stores. The incompetence of AT&T employees is pretty hilarious and sad. I do always recommend an in-store trade-in/return whenever possible though.

Any idea how long after telling Apple you're going to return the device that the AT&T line frees up for an upgrade again? I'm stuck in limbo where I can't order the new 12 Pro Max because I selected to return my 12 Pro. :-/
