Yesterday I bought the wife an iPhone 12. We're trading in her iPhone 8+ for the $700 credit, $100 more than we paid for it. Her 256GB 12 will be $5/mo.

When I told her she commented on why people aren't buying used phones and using them to upgrade.

Tried to go into a store today to do this but they would only let me do it I signed up for AT&T Next, which was $5 more a month. Has this happened to others? Think I’ll do this online then to avoid it.

No that’s not the case. Try to go to another retail store. A lot of us here have had dumbos as representatives at stores give us similar run arounds. Also just to clarify, AT&T Next is the entire financing programming. AT&T Next Up is what is $5 extra and it lets you upgrade at 15 months. Keep in mind though, if you upgrade, the credits stop. So if you trade in at 15 months, you only got $350, not the full $700 that you’ll get at 30 months.

What clowns. At first she tried to tell me that I had to add a line to upgrade, and then I corrected her and read the T&Cs out loud. Sleepy practices.

Welp I jumped on this deal for the Mini, trading an iPhone 8 I got for peanuts not all that long ago.

Also saving money switching to their unlimited elite from my old plan.

Just hope any of the not-unexpected bugs with the new Mini get ironed out asap.

Yes that’s what I did. I ended up shipping it to AT&T. No issues what so ever. Went to 1 corporate store and they was clueless.

Well, there is a promotion for $300 off without trade-in. I’m assuming that this promotion is that one plus the trade in. But still... $400 for a used device is crazy.
This is effectively the new contract. Great upfront deal but you’re going to have to stay on for $30 to get the full credit.

How did you send it to them? I got my 12 today but there weren’t any additional boxes or instructions on how to send in my trade in.

The ATT operator I spoke with earlier today told me my phone would arrive tomorrow, and that 'sometime later' a return pouch would be sent to me. She said to expect the entire transaction to be completed and credited to my account in 1 to 3 months. So I'm not exactly expecting this to be a speedy process.

I think the $300 off without trade in is just that, not the combo.

So Walmart is currently showing $150 off on iPhone 12/Mini/Pro/Pro Max AT&T installments and it looks like it can be combined with the $700 AT&T Trade in Promo? Kinda curious if anyone has had success with this? I'll be a little bummed out if I could've saved an extra $150 versus ordering from Apple lol.

Yeah, I was told it would take two billing cycles for my credit to start posting.
It took over two months for AT&T to refund me for a return I mailed in.

Submitted trade in online at at&t. Printed out shipping label. Packed phone inside my own box. Received email from at&t when they received it. Received email from at&t when trade in got approved. Received email from at&t credits will start to kick in within 1-2 billing cycles.

The trade-in material looks just like a typical AT&T promotional piece.
It could very easily be mistaken for junk mail.
A simple AT&T envelope smaller than 8-1/2 x 11.
Inside is some instructions and a mylar bubble mailer just slightly larger than the phone itself.

When I ordered the new phone online they said the new phone would ship with a shipping slip to send the old phone back. Is that the right process, or should I be waiting for this envelop to come LATER than the new iPhone arrives?

It's really amazing how ridiculously poorly trained the carrier employees are. This thread is filled with store employees and CSR chats spewing completely wrong information. It only leads to headaches and issues with their customers. I will NEVER purchase from AT&T ever again and simply use them for service. Buying from Apple this year was such a seamless process in comparison.

Seems like a nice deal. Anyone that tries it, please report back. Might be trying with two lines on our plan.

EDIT: Tried on two eligible lines for 12s. Looks like price comes out to $679 over 30 months but have to go into store to complete both orders.

Interesting. ATT using Enjoy delivery service that would if I wanted do the transfer between my old/new phones. They also bring multiple case and screen protector options that I could go through and purchase with the delivery. Operator said it was 'a way to bring a bit of the ATT store to the customer' in current environment.

I opted for dropoff only because of the obvious, but they promise daily testing + masks/gloves + disinfectant cleaning of all surfaces + 6 feet distancing.

I mistakenly selected the in person delivery at my home. Not sure what I’m in store for but I really don’t want anyone in my home :).

Only 'in person' requirement for delivery was a photo ID.

So he knocked on my door and I pressed my drivers license against the window in the door and that was good enough.

Did he take your phone trade in at that time?
