I made a mistake and traded my iPhone 7 instead of the iPhone XS. I could not cancel my pre-order for the iPhone 12 mini even though I just ordered it couple of hours prior. I waited to receive the phone on 11/13/20. I took it to 2 corporate AT&T Store and they could not return it and recommended to ship it back with the return label. It's been 7 days and stuck in Sparks NV Inducted into Pitney Bowes Network since 11/22/20. Support to go to Fort Worth TX. AT&T is so fast shipping phones but their return is so shady.

Isn't it crazy that an AT&T store, let alone a Corporate AT&T store, can't return a device?

Went to Walmart to upgrade three lines. Pricing didn’t reflect same monthly deal on website. Went through with it with $700 credits toward iPhone 12s and just paid tax today off $700 each. Will see if monthly matches what Walmart shows today.

Did you get the Walmart $200 boost to the offer?

Quick question. I physically took my XS Max into my corporate store on the 17th of last week and received a printout at that time stating that I traded in the phone. My question is, should I be receiving any other correspondence, email or otherwise, that my trade was accepted for the promo and the credits will be applied, or is this all I will be getting? Nothing reflected on my current bill, since the cycle ended on the 16th. Just want to be sure there is nothing else I need to do. TIA.
I am in the same situation. Dropped off my old iPhone X at an AT&T corp store last week. I received the printout and have not heard a peep about the trade in since then.

Yes, I was hoping we could get some sort of idea how long it would be before we hear anything, or if we should actually expect to hear anything else other than the printout we were given. Will we get an email or text? Maybe someone who’s been through the in-person trade in will let us know.

Once the phone is received and processed at the 3rd party warehouse, you'll get a lengthy text saying that the credit/promo will be applied. It's written in a very confusing way, most likely by monkeys. You won't get any other confirmation until the bill is generated.

For me it took a little less than 2 weeks to get the text. Depends on how fast the store processes their trade-in's and how fast the warehouse processes what they receive. They store likely takes a few days to process and mail the trade-in's.

The form that I was given indicates that the screen is functioning and free of any chips or cracks etc, it powers on and off, no activation lock or find my iphone turned on, and the device is free of any breaks or cracks, no bending, blah, blah. So I hope it will be smooth sailing with the credits. The associate even commented that it looked like I just unboxed it lol. I told her that it didn’t leave the store without a case or screen protector when I picked it up on launch day in 2018. I guess I’m just a worrier. 🥴

You won't have any issues with the store trade-in as long as it was a corporate store. They essentially take on the liability if once they send it to depot it is different than what is listed on that form. As a manager I would have to reprimand employees if the depot found discrepancies.

The store also sends them in better packaging than the crappy packaging they give for customer mail-ins. We'd send a whole bunch together in a box which seemed to cause less issues.

It was a corporate store. Been going to the same one for years. It’s only a few blocks from where I live. I really appreciate your insight and insider information. Very helpful! 😊

Has anyone on AT&T been able to upgrade a line on a 12 ($679) or 12 mini ($579) with the reduced monthly pricing with Walmart? Every time I try, it says I need to complete the process in the store.

Happy Thanksgiving!

my iPhone 8 wasnt cracked and met all the qualifications, but the employee barely even looked at it before completing the form and assessing it was worth the $100 amount haha

Did anyone start the trade-in process online before receiving their new iPhone? I ordered a couple weeks ago from Apple and my 12 Pro hasn’t shipped yet, however it will likely ship soon. I would like to start the trade-in now that way I lock in the promotional credit and also receive the return label / packaging around when I get my new phone.

I'm hoping someone can clarify this.

I created a new line to get Best Buy's $200 off an iPhone 12 pro (promo needed a new line or new account). I have an old number/line on the account that I was planning on cancelling anyway. The old line does not have a phone w/ a payment plan on it and has existed for years (e.g. not subject to any ETFs, AFAIK).

I purchased the new phone plus new line, and called ATT to cancel the OLD line (NOT the new line -- I know there are restrictions on that). ATT rep said that I cannot cancel any line on my account for 90 days, otherwise I forfeit the promotion.

  • Where can I find information on this policy?
  • How can ATT have any control over a Best Buy promotion? (The phone is fully paid off, I purchased it outright.)

If the ATT rep is correct, then that means I could've deleted the phone line say, Wednesday, and purchased a new line on Thursday, with no consequences?

Try again, sounds like someone doesn't know what they are doing or what they are talking about.

Took so long for ATT to send the return package. I decided to just sell the phone on Facebook and instantly sold it.

Submitted trade in online at at&t. Printed out shipping label. Packed phone inside my own box. Received email from at&t when they received it. Received email from at&t when trade in got approved. Received email from at&t credits will start to kick in within 1-2 billing cycles.
I ended up bringing it to AT&T myself. I don’t trust mailing anything back to them. Last time I did, it “took” two months for them to receive a return.

Did the run around with a few different ATT reps and:
  • 2nd rep cancelled the line with no issues, and did not mention any 90 day hold
  • 3rd rep stated 90 day hold does seem to apply for all lines on an account after establishing a new line...
  • However, 3rd rep stated that since I paid for my phone outright, and was not receiving any "credits" monthly (e.g. like the $800/$700 trade in credits) that there shouldn't really be any issue with what I did.
I guess we shall see what happens at this point.

ETA: that this is the language that appears for AT&T's current offers via their website (above referenced credits), which does not seem to apply to me, so fingers crossed I have no issues.
  • If you cancel service on any other line on your account within 90 days of activating the line under this offer, device credits will stop.

And if you decide to pay off your loan, credits will stop.
Correct, though I don't have a loan. But yes, this is the reason I did not choose to upgrade through AT&T directly. $700/credit sounds great for an X, but an unlimited plan is more expensive than what I pay now (this alone essentially negates the $700), and I have no option of paying off the loan early unless I want to lose the credit.

I dropped off one phone in store and a second phone in store weeks later. Never heard anything afterward.
In fact I got email reminders to complete both trade-ins.
Finally got my new bill and the credits are there.
