Once the phone is received and processed at the 3rd party warehouse, you'll get a lengthy text saying that the credit/promo will be applied. It's written in a very confusing way, most likely by monkeys. You won't get any other confirmation until the bill is generated.

For me it took a little less than 2 weeks to get the text. Depends on how fast the store processes their trade-in's and how fast the warehouse processes what they receive. They store likely takes a few days to process and mail the trade-in's.

(Former AT&T store manager)
FYI, I didn't get any text regarding the credit/promo, lengthy or not.

I traded in my iPhone X the day after I received my 12, which was October 23, at an AT&T corp store (got receipts). A week or so later I received the return kit (for the phone that was already returned). But really nothing else.

The very next bill showed my new phone's payment, as well as the promo credit (1 of 30), as well as the sales tax. It also showed the $30 activation fee which I contested and it was immediately credited. So my only outlay for the new phone was the tax. That's actually better than what was originally promised (that it could take several billing cycles for the promo credit to appear).

Posting my experience with this deal. I upgraded by my phone and my wife’s, getting a 12 Pro Max and a 12 mini, so the offer was just for $700. Still better than the trade value of our current phones, a XS Max and an iPhone 8.

I wanted to trade in at a store rather than trust mailing it anywhere. This was the next day after the phone release. I called a few local stores. First store is corporate and said they would not do the trade in deal in their store. Didn’t care that I said I knew other stores were honoring the trade in deal. Called another that was not corporate, said they couldn’t do it. Tried calling another corporate store, but they didn’t even answer the phone. Called another store, picked up right away and said sure, they could do a trade in with the offer.

I went that evening and it was empty. Did the trade in fairly quickly. all they asked for was the numbers on the phone lines and my email. They said they couldn’t print anything there for a receipt, but it would be emailed in a half hour. Was a bit nervous about leaving with NOTHING for proof of trade in, but they swore the trade in was accepted for the deal and I was good to go, so I reluctantly left it at that. I wasn’t sure if they were a corporate store before I went, but clearly they were not, so that didn’t make me feel better.

Got home and after about an hour with no email I called back to follow up. He said the receipt was ready and he would resend it. Gave a different email, as I thought they may have messed up typing my other one. Waited on the line until the email came through and it looked like a legit receipt that showed the proper credit offer deduction of the trade in value. Felt okay about actually getting the credit.

Fast forward to today and I get my first bill after the upgrade. Success! The credit is already there on the first bill, and I can breathe a sigh of relief.

Since I could not find a store to do the trade in , I mailed mines in and things went smooth and all I had to do is wait for the text with AT&T and success.

I kind of want to go to the store who told me that I had to cancel my phone from Apple and order through AT&T for the promo to work just to to gloat and show he was wrong.

Glad it worked out smooth like me. Don't go back to that store. Those people pretend to not know anything. They only cater to help if you buy from them or upgrade from them. The problem are managers of these stores actually.

How long did it take from the time you mailed the phone to the time you got the acknowedgement from AT&T? My son mailed his phone back to AT&T on Nov 7th and he still hasn't received any confirmation.

I took the phone to UPS on Nov. 5th. UPS delivered it on the 9th but I didn't get confirmation until the 13th from AT&T. This morning on the 1st I got the text from AT&T about the credits being applied. So maybe a couple more days for your son. :)

So apparently I did receive a text confirming the trade-in promo, I just never noticed it.

I just got my credits back. Day after getting the 12. I went into store with receipt. Yesterday was the first day I heard anything about it(no text or anything) and that was cause I saw the credits in my bill. 2 months worth.

question tho, mine was suppose to be for the $800. I know they stopped that soon after and made it $700. How do you guys know you got the $800 or $700 by credits on bill? Is it the 1 of 30 credits means you get 30 months of full credits so you get the $800 and if you got the $700 it only shows 1 of 26 or something like that?

800 will be 26.66 per month. 700 will be 23.33 per month. It is a 30 month credit regardless if you get the 800 or 700. I got the 700 and it is for 30 months.

And if you decided to pay off the phone to upgrade, you will lose your credits.
I did that with my daughters 8 plus. Got the buy one get one for 30 months of credits 2 years ago. I got 24 worth then this deal came out. So paid the $100 or so to get the trailer in(still worth it) They did give me one more month of credits tho after I got the 12. Then they gave me 2 months of credits for the 12 all in one bill. Have to say that was unexpected

Wby is it 30 months? Is it different with tmobile!? They told me once I trade in my phones my payments go from 30 to 11

Don't get me started on AT&Ts trade in situation. They told me with my note ultra it would kick in after 3 billing cycles ($1000) and i think the same thing when I traded in my iPhone 8 for the 12 pro. I also returned a 12 and still waiting on them to receive it from early last month for my down payment refund etc

Former manager here at one of the highest volume locations in the country. I'd politely disagree and say the blame for poorly educated, obnoxious, or careless reps can be attributed to a wide variety of factors. I've also worked for Apple and other organizations that are known for exceptional service, and saw first hand how the cultures differ.

1) We hired all the wrong people (this is the most important thing at any business)
2) We then micro-managed these same poor-fit individuals with atrocious tactics that sets most up to fail
3) The reps are unionized and the union loves to fight for these same types of employees that you and I as customers have horrible experiences with (oh the stories of crazy things reps did where I couldn't fire them)
4) Upper management creates an incentive system to focus on sales at all costs, while paying lip service to proper customer service. Customer service is part of their rankings, but sales will always come first. And you are being ranked against other reps who may not be as honest/ethical as you are.

While some of the managers are bad, or fraudulent, the very bad apples all eventually get fired. The good moral ones who would never cheat anyone, who are just in a poor system, need your help to get rid of these bad employees. Writing up a very, very detailed email or letter that described exactly what they rep said or did wrong would go a long way in helping fight the union grievance that will surely follow. It will certainly be in their file for when they do something else flagrantly wrong and makes for a stronger case.

I could talk about this for hours/days, and some of us at AT&T did. But almost all of us no longer work there, probably for the same reason ;)

Help me understand what I was told by a AT&T rep. She said that my credits ($1000 trade in for note ultra) are listed on here. So what is the $43 shown next to Samsung Galaxy note ultra?

You are getting a 33.34 monthly credit. You are being charged 43.34 monthly for your phone. You are getting 1000 in credits over 30 months (33.34x30=1000) and paying 1300 for your phone over 30 months (43.34x30=1300).

Net cost to you is 300 Dollars over 30 months. 43.34-30.34=10. 10 dollars x 30 months is 300 dollars.

For future reference, do programs like these expect a flawless looking phone (no scratches or blemishes on the phone at all?)

I know they don't care about the battery as my battery on my Ip7 was almost at 70% life and settings stated it needed to be replaced and i still got my credits (phone was in flawless condition)

Took 7-8 days to get trade in mail in packaging. Took from nov 16 to dec 3rd for phone to get there and to get an Email that my phone was received and processed. Now waiting for “trade in completed and payment sent” to be completed

Does that mean it can be paid off sooner?
