It's kind of like if you give a little kid a present (moved up early upgrade date in the past), and then take it away at a later time after they have come to expect it as a normal thing they throw a major tantrum.

If they had just never been given the present to begin with though everything would have been fine.

I couldn't think of a better example that quick but it kind of reminded me of these kids reactions:

My 2yr upgrade is Nov 19th (thanks to the Macrumors main page post) I just found out so I figured it would be possible to call AT&T and escalate and make a big deal since Ive been a customer for years.

Seemed do-able right?

Wrong.

As it turns out (even after calling 3 times) they are strictly not doing that anymore and they kept pushing me to do next despite the fact I kept insisting I don't want to do that.

I guess they have hard-core instructions from Apple themselves to not move up upgrade eligibilities. And Apple complained that they only have a limited stock so its unfair to the people who are truly eligible if they cheat the others to be eligible too. Something like that from a high level manager that just got a new memo saying this stuff today.

I got into a huge fight and threatened to change carriers and they still didn't budge!!

And now Im stuck paying full price for the 128+

This is BS, they don't care about customer service anymore or what?? You're gonna lose a customer over 2 months upgrade time?

ROFL

omg so unfair like at&t wouldn't let me break my contract omg so rude worst customer support evar

Are you for real? You signed an agreement with them. How angry would you be if they decided to change it suddenly without warning? Very, I'd imagine. It'd be an outrage. This is basically what you're trying to pull on them, and being a "long-time customer" no matter how important you think you are to their company, doesn't change the fact you're trying to go entirely against your contract. Stop whinging that the rules have to apply to you as well.

So when a pattern has emerged that dictates that things are as such, its is not unreasonable for me to assume that pattern is continuing, and it is not unreasonable for me to then try to press the issue when the pattern changes out of my favor and as a reaction to my diminishing value within that organization.

AKA whiney entitlement.

http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2012/12/22/endlessly-entitled-narcissists-what-to-look-for/

1. Narcissists are excessively self-absorbed. They monopolize the conversation, hog the remote, run the show. They pay scant attention to what interests you.

2. Narcissists view others as extensions of themselves. The narcissist sets the standards of behavior and does not tolerate differences – especially if your viewpoint would require her to alter her behavior.

3. Narcissists don’t appreciate different perspectives. If you don’t think or feel the same way he does, something’s wrong with you.

4. Narcissists crave constant validation from the world. Admire and respect them and all is well. Find fault with them and watch out! Open narcissists will go on the offensive; closet narcissists will cut short the conversation.

5. Narcissists pursue admiration, attention, status, prestige and money excessively. All of this is mere window dressing, covering up a real self that’s insecure and vulnerable.

6. Narcissists believe that they’re entitled to special treatment. If it inconveniences them, it’s a “stupid” law, a “retarded” restriction. So why fall into line? “That’s for peons; not for me!”

7. Narcissists believe that they deserve the best, regardless of cost. Hence, they may recklessly purchase status items and indulge in expensive experiences to make them feel like VIPs.

What If they did start letting people get out of their contracts early and they got their new iPhones on release day and eventually the stock ran out and people who were actually already eligible for the upgrades had to be turned away. Would that be right? No

Thats kind of over-analyzing it.

You have to consider I have prior knowledge of the incidents in the past where this was known to be a courtesy they extended to us.

So when a pattern has emerged that dictates that things are as such, its is not unreasonable for me to assume that pattern is continuing, and it is not unreasonable for me to then try to press the issue when the pattern changes out of my favor and as a reaction to my diminishing value within that organization.

It is people who think like this that keep me from doing favors for other people. You just said they were moving dates up as a courtesy which means they were doing it to be nice, not because they have to.

Now, they decide not to do that courtesy and you explode like a 2 year old baby. How about they never moved your date up once, would you have preferred that? You should be happy they made not only one exception for you but enough to create a pattern instead of whining about the one time they don't.

Also, I haven't seen any OP's other threads but every post of his/hers in her smells like a troll.

Edit: Went and found this old thread of his. I suppose he lost this mentality somewhere in the past couple weeks https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1752953/

I am sorry but everyone is getting so mean here. The situation is this ATT tells you that they could move for your upgrade date on any phone but the iPhone. So obviously with other manufacturers and subsidies they have that ability to move your upgrade date. Clearly this is something between Apple and AT&T that does not allow the date to be moved. I've had the iPhone for seven years and for the last two years this is what I've heard numerous times from Att they can move it on any phone but the iPhone
What that suggests is AT&T pays a much bigger subsidy for the iPhone than any other phone hence, they need to make sure they recover that subsidy through contract. :p

Sprint won't even let you upgrade even one day before the your upgrade date lol. So count yourself lucky that att will allow you to upgrade up to a week before your date. And I don't know why people have such back lash to the next program when in MOST not all but most it's a better deal then sighing a 2 year contract. I for one will never sign another 2 year. And from what I can gather att and all the top carriers are pushing toward that. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next year or 2 they get rid of 2 year agreements all together. Any sorry to rant.

Ps: I hope this person is a troll.

You would have so many down votes if MR still allowed them!

I'm guessing OP would be at a -93 by now :D

Any other bets?

I warn you, however: what is seen cannot be unseen.

So do you want to clarify at which point they were rude? Because you kind of failed to mention that part completely. You told us how you were rude to at least one of the reps, but nothing the other way around.

You wanted a new phone and likely kept asking for it (they can tell when you call back for the same reason if the previous rep took any logs), so yeah, they are going to keep recommending Next. That is sort of what that program is for... people who want a new phone every year.

But again, what did they say that was rude? Through your explaination, all I really got was that they were trying to tell you current promotions that they have that would allow you to get the new phone you want.

The horror! They had the nerve to tell you that they would not make a special exception for you, and that you will have to wait two whole months in order to finish a contract that you yourself signed?! There are starving African children who would cry if that horrifying fate ever befell them.

Seriously? You called AT&T and immediately asked for a supervisor and argued for three phone calls? Wow, that's truly pathetic. You act as if the poor low-wage customer service reps are personally responsible for the fact that you cant upgrade early. That's seriously scummy. Do you really think that these people care if you switch to a different carrier? Hell, they would probably hold the door on your way out so that they wouldn't have to deal with you anymore.

Honestly, I've found the exact opposite way of treating people works better. When I call a place like AT&T, I KILL them with overwhelming kindness, I am so warm and friendly with them that they will remember me for months. I've found that people will really move heaven and earth for you if you are nice to them, since they obviously have to deal with a ton of whiny adult-children for most of their day. But really, I would be kind to them even if it wasn't going to benefit me, because it is the right thing to do. I really don't think I could deal with people like you all day long, thank goodness I have never had to work customer service.

I truly don't feel sorry for you, but I do feel bad for the reps that have to deal with you.

From what I can tell the only thing he says is that the call center rep got "snarky" with him (probably because OP was mad/pushy as hell at that point):
Good I hope he was (pissed off or stressed out). He got all snarky with me and said he was gonna call all the stores in my area to see if anyone would do it because he said he didm have the ability to do it when i challenged him on being a bad person and not doing something i asked for even though he had the power to do it.

Yep.

I have worked customer service at more than one job and while you can usually come up with plenty of jokes about the rude, jackass customers, it is the nice customers you actually want to help. Raising your voice, insulting the rep, and threatening to do colossal damage to the company's revenue are the quickest ways to get 0 help especially if you are asking for something that goes against policy.

Supposedly Im the bad guy here.

And to the ATT rep that posted, thats why you're not a CEO of a company, and just a lowly employee, because you have a disgusting mindset and don't care about helping customers or making them happy. Its not up to you to judge me or what I deserve.

I deserve to be happy.

And what would have made me happy, is to be able to get the good price when I pre-order on Friday and be able to get it on the day of release, on-time, with everyone else like I have been planning, and to not ruin my experience. THATS customer service. Thats good business.

Please bro, tell me you are not real! :D
No wonder society is so screwed.

Seriously, who the F raised these 20 somethings? Whiny entitlement and utter lack of regard for others is like a freaking epidemic today.

*EDIT* All is revealed in the brah's Instagram feed. Everything makes sense now. LOL.

Right? The Instagram feed explains EVERYTHING.
