I knew OP was a weirdo from his "Give it Chance" thread.

He's worse off than originally believed though.

Supposedly Im the bad guy here.

Yet you guys are the ones all righteously thrilled by the fact that another man just lost 250$ point blank for no reason.

Cuz guess what, Im still renewing for 2 years and resetting my things. Im losing the value just a few weeks short of my 2nd year I put in. (of many years)

And no two months is not long in the scope of 2 years, back in the early iPhone ATT exclusive days it happened officially that they took months of peoples eligibility to make the phone a hit.

And even just a few years ago they still did it, cuz it was smart, it kept people on the network and from switching.

And to the ATT rep that posted, thats why you're not a CEO of a company, and just a lowly employee, because you have a disgusting mindset and don't care about helping customers or making them happy. Its not up to you to judge me or what I deserve.

I deserve to be happy.

And what would have made me happy, is to be able to get the good price when I pre-order on Friday and be able to get it on the day of release, on-time, with everyone else like I have been planning, and to not ruin my experience. THATS customer service. Thats good business.

But you are not eligible as YOU chose the contact that goes for two years. If you feel you deserve to be happy, also ask them to drop the price $200, throw in a a case and a few iTunes cards, thats good business.

Or pay the ETF. The phone company has subsidised you and they will lose two months billing, which after eventually recovering the cost of YOUR old phone, will be their profit, but you want to take that away from a business cos you deserve to be happy? Theor employees aolso deserve to work in a company that is not losing money

Wow, just wait the 2 months. What's the big deal. It's just a bloody phone.

If you are still on unlimited then they have no reason to upgrade you early. They have wanted you out of that program for years.

If you are not on unlimited then you need to do more research on NEXT.

They didn't say you couldn't get a phone. Just not the way you wanted.

They gave you options though

You have to be under 25...please tell me you're not a grown ass man with this type of self entitled 'the world needs to please me attitude?'

Seriously, who the F raised these 20 somethings? Whiny entitlement and utter lack of regard for others is like a freaking epidemic today.

*EDIT* All is revealed in the brah's Instagram feed. Everything makes sense now. LOL.

My 2yr upgrade is Nov 19th (thanks to the Macrumors main page post) I just found out so I figured it would be possible to call AT&T and escalate and make a big deal since Ive been a customer for years.

Seemed do-able right?

Wrong.

As it turns out (even after calling 3 times) they are strictly not doing that anymore and they kept pushing me to do next despite the fact I kept insisting I don't want to do that.

I guess they have hard-core instructions from Apple themselves to not move up upgrade eligibilities. And Apple complained that they only have a limited stock so its unfair to the people who are truly eligible if they cheat the others to be eligible too. Something like that from a high level manager that just got a new memo saying this stuff today.

I got into a huge fight and threatened to change carriers and they still didn't budge!!

And now Im stuck paying full price for the 128+

This is BS, they don't care about customer service anymore or what?? You're gonna lose a customer over 2 months upgrade time?

Give them the indication you want to switch to another carrier. Maybe, they might give you what you want. Make the threat. :p

You said it yourself the reason your upgrades were pushed up was because it was smart "then". There's no need to do that now it's gonna sell no matter what and att is offering you an option to get the phone when you want, the next plan.

Also don't assume I am a "lowly" employee because I am not and you thinking the reps who help you are is just a testament to what kind of person you are. Hope you enjoy your new phone sir but I am done with you.

Boo hoo. I'm sure AT&T will be absolutely devastated to lose you as a customer.

All irrelevant.

Try financing a car and asking the lender to waive the last 2 months of payments because you've found a nice brand spanking new model you want to buy on the day it's released. You won't get very far.

The only thing you deserve is the lesson you're learning in fulfilling your obligations. Don't sign contracts if you think you might want to weasel out of them later.

I am sorry but everyone is getting so mean here. The situation is this ATT tells you that they could move for your upgrade date on any phone but the iPhone. So obviously with other manufacturers and subsidies they have that ability to move your upgrade date. Clearly this is something between Apple and AT&T that does not allow the date to be moved. I've had the iPhone for seven years and for the last two years this is what I've heard numerous times from Att they can move it on any phone but the iPhone

I really don't think it's unreasonable for somebody who is eight or nine days out to call Att and ask them if it's possible to just move it up. I don't know why people have to be so mean and judge other people nobody's trying to get something for free it's just a simple question that seems like a reasonable solution. All were asking is that they change the date so we can sign another two-year contract clearly it's just not a policy change that can be done with the iPhone

It's just these messages are getting so mean and judgmental that I thought I would just try and put it all in perspective and I'm not trying to insult anybody or hurt anybody's feelings but I don't think it's any harm in asking to have an upgrade date just moved

Nothing wrong with asking, which is what the OP did. ATT said no. It should have ended right there.

It's the OP's ridiculous entitlement attitude after getting refused that people have a problem with. And the fact that he comes here with his sob story expecting others to sympathize and support him just shows how clueless he is.

When you did this how many months were you out and how much did they charge you ? or did they not even quote you the termination fee and just bumped up your upgrade ?

No they did quote some termination fee + prorated something but that was just as I was escalating.

I knew OP was a weirdo from his "Give it Chance" thread.

He's worse off than originally believed though.

Oh yeah? What is "normal" anyway huh? What is normal? Theres no such thing.

But you are not eligible as YOU chose the contact that goes for two years. If you feel you deserve to be happy, also ask them to drop the price $200, throw in a a case and a few iTunes cards, thats good business.

Its not that technical. I just wanted a simple upgrade dude. Ive been a customer for like a decade. Its not unreasonable to ask...

Wow, just wait the 2 months. What's the big deal. It's just a bloody phone.

Im not waiting two months!! I want to get it tomorrow night with everyone else thats a huge deal and part of the whole experience to have it on the first day! Church that Sunday will be so hype!

Thats so true good point I forgot about that. Yes I am on unlimited. Another reason secretly Im sure.

Give them the indication you want to switch to another carrier. Maybe, they might give you what you want. Make the threat. :p

I did! But ultimately the third guy I talked to was so nice and reasonable saying that "yeah I know we used to be able to do this, I would love to be able to help you but we can't, even if you speak to a manager they can't do it so yeah Im sorry I know you used to be able to do it but they changed the rules and its strict now..."

No offense but I hope I never have to encounter you in a retail situation in my entire life lol.

Im surprised it took so long for a reasonable response. Im not a bad person. I just wanted to have my upgrade moved up like they used to do it for us.

I don't have a problem with the OP trying to get his upgrade date moved. It doesn't hurt to ask. That said, what I do object to is his whiney self-entitled attitude about it.

I would file some major complains - things might not turn any better in your favor, but at least it messes up with a few people and def. catch their attention. I complained once to FCC about ATT's throttling strategy and they called me back a few weeks later, I was half away and they caught me off guard...basically, they kept saying hey look don't stick with unlimited plan and buy your data so we won't throttle and the half away and half sleep me kept going ok ill think about it...
what a major fail but oh well

Bottom line is that the main underlying issue comes down to your misconceptions of how the world works. You don't deserve anything (just as no one does). There's nothing that anyone has to do or doesn't have to do. This is the reality of the world. I guess it's up to the individual to actually live in that reality or pretend that it's not real, which can be "fun" but doesn't do anything to change the reality which remains as it is.

Its not that technical. I just wanted a simple upgrade dude. Ive been a customer for like a decade. Its not unreasonable to ask...

No, it's not unreasonable to ask.

What's unreasonable is your reaction and your attitude after you asked and were told no. You obviously haven't learned that in life you don't always get what you want. And sure, go ahead and think that you deserve to be happy - what you fail to understand is that nobody else is obligated to accommodate you to make you happy.

Welcome to the real world. If you're under 25 years old I feel sorry for you, because you're in for a rude awakening and many more years filled with disappointments.

Thats kind of over-analyzing it.

You have to consider I have prior knowledge of the incidents in the past where this was known to be a courtesy they extended to us.

So when a pattern has emerged that dictates that things are as such, its is not unreasonable for me to assume that pattern is continuing, and it is not unreasonable for me to then try to press the issue when the pattern changes out of my favor and as a reaction to my diminishing value within that organization.

If anything a rational mature person would actually understand that they have been lucky getting extra courtesies extended to them and would expect them to actually stop sooner than later since they already got them, and apparently more than even one or two. Not the other way around of expecting them to continue. You can hope they continue of course, but the rational expectation is that they actually won't.

I've never heard of someone getting their eligibility date moved up two months. Dates are usually moved within the same month. Just the fun of having a contract. :)

Except you were told that the pattern was changed out of your favor, yet you still continued to press the issue and came here to vent about being screwed over by ATT. That makes you come off as an entitled a$$ to almost everyone reading this thread.

I know you don't think you're the bad guy here, but trust me - you are. If not being able to get your hands on a new iPhone at a discount on release day is one of the worst problems you face, I have zero sympathy for you. None.

I can't get my new phone until November!!?@?@#?!
