Sorry, I should clarify, yes I do have an ATT account.

I have a business account with them so my call got routed to their business department when I dialed 611 from my phone. I told them I initially started the unlock process through chat but was informed only one can be unlocked and the other cannot and was beyond the chat representative's control. I told the business rep that the phones were purchased off eBay and that if they needed proof of purchase, I can provide the eBay transaction history. The business rep first checked if I'm qualified for the unlock and after confirmation she routed me to the tech department. From there, I repeated my story above and the tech rep checked if the phones can be unlocked (not tied to a contract) and when she confirmed that both were unlockable, she went ahead with the process. But again, I first attempted the unlock process through ATT's chat but that rep informed me only one was unlockable and that it would take 5-7 business days. I guess it depends who you get when you call. Some are accommodating and detailed while others just go by the book and try to do the process quickly.

It seems that if you have an ATT account, the unlock process is a lot quicker than 5-7 business days. But most representatives just tell you to wait that long and wait for the email because maybe it's the protocol? I'm not sure. I would just go ahead with the restore a few hours (or in my case, right after my call with ATT) after they send the unlock request. When I did the restore, I didn't get the "Congratulations" message on iTunes, the only way I found out was when I popped in a T-Mobile sim card.

hello sir , i need ur help for unlocking at&t iphone , plz send me ur email id on my id sahil77788@gmail.com , i really need ur help urgently , thnx i m waiting for ur help ,

I have a IP 3GS that I got a confirmation email from at&t about it being unlocked. So I restored the device and got the NO SIM error when using a sim card from overseas. I then used SAM in Cydia and deactivated in redsn0w to bypass the NO SIM screen and I got the CONGRATULATIONS SCREEN.

Now if I turn my device off and turn it back on, it's like I'm using a semitethered jailbreak running 5.1. My e-mail, safari or cydia will not work without having to boot tethered in redsn0w. Anyone else having this problem?

spoke to someone via the chat, they said I have to wait until June 24th 2012 and thats when the phone will be off of contract

anyway around this?

I have a family plan with AT&T. My 2g iPhone was unlocked. Two people in my family have a data plan, one does not. I gave my 2g phone to my youngest son and he switched his sim (no data) and it worked.

When he was trying to set up his voicemai AT&T told him that he could not use the unlocked phone and that he would have to pay $30/mo. for data. He is not allowed to use his AT&T sim (no data). She states that AT&T does a sweep and anyone that is not paying for that will automatically be charged $30 a month. That does not seem fair, does it?

Fair or not it's ATT's policy.

If i got the "case resolved" email but not the one with instructions on how to unlock, should i still go through with restoring to stock 5.1? I dont mind losing the jailbreak, but if i restore and im not factory unlocked, ill be on an unlockable BB....

You don't need to restore to unlock it. Just deactivate with redsnow and activate again with itunes. Never the less, make a custom firmware with preserved BB incase you wanna go ahead with a new restore.

What if I do this but the unlock didn't go through?

I had the same thing happen. What is going on is ATT approved the unlock and sent your IMEI to Apple to be white-listed. Apple simply has not added you to the white-list yet. I just waited till about 20 hours after I received my email and then I got the message :)

Yeah, your right I just waited a little and I'm UNLOCKED!

On another note. I have t-mobile right now but sometimes I dont even think its worth it. Edge is so slow.. And I cant receive picture messages.

@xharrison: edge isn't that slow...I receive and send picture message all the time. you have to configure your settings. just google tmobile mms and there you go.

You would still retain your BB & jailbreak. Just a safe approach to keep the baseband at the gevey unlocable state for the years to come. You never know one fine day your imei might just get removed from the white list ;-)

Anybody gets this successful thru email? Im trying to help my uncle from overseas by emailling them.

By the way, I'm using my iPhone 4 on 5.0.1 with 01.59.00 using ultrasn0w on a foreign provider. For testing purposes if AT&T/Apple pushed the unlock, I'm removing ultrasn0w, reboot the iPhone and connect it to iTunes (unlocking the SIM along the way) and wait for the message in iTunes to popup (insert proper SIM-card or (HOPEFULLY!) the unlock message). Can anybody copy that?

You have to deactivate the phone first.

Install Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM) and deactivate the phone. When you connect it to iTunes it will give you the unlock message if everything went through. If not, reactivate (or hactivate) with SAM.

Tested it right away as follows:
1. Having an iPhone 4 at 5.0.1 with 01.59.00 using T-Mobile NL SIM-card
2. Removed ultrasn0w and installed SAM
3. Deactivated iPhone
4. Shutdown via Powerbutton
5. Boot it up
6. Unlock the SIM-card with a PIN-code
7. Connect the iPhone with iTunes
8. iTunes connects real quick with the iTunes Store Server and goes to the normal overview screen.
9. In SAM -> More Info the iPhone is wildcardactivated.

Conclusion, no unlock for me this way (yet). The question is, is this the right way or do I've to use the AT&T-card anywhere or leave the iPhone a set time synced with iTunes?

Hi guys.

I bought an iPhone 4 off of my suitemate, who purchased a new iPhone 4S (with a new SIM card apparently, because I have his old SIM card). I thought that since he upgraded, I was eligible to get my iPhone unlocked. However, even though the AT&T rep gave me a case number, I called back and they told me that I was not eligible because the contract did not end. However, they also said that the account was upgraded...I thought if it was upgraded I was eligible...Should I try again?

Thanks

Try again. Some of the representatives are misinformed about the eligibility requirements. I personally had better luck with the chat reps.
