I just reserved 2 (my wife and I) via the Apple Store App. Geez, what a godsend this app has been.

However, I did get my confirmation email and the price listed is the unsubsidized price. Is this normal?

I'm starting to realize that everyone who actually gets a reserved is seeing the unsubsidized price. I went through the Upgrade a phone and I am eligible and still seeing the unsubsidized price.

My girlfriend and I got ours reserved on the apple store app for the iphone with no problems! I got tired of trying every 3 minutes waiting for the online crap to go through. iStore app litereally took less than 2 minutes and got email confirmation a minute later. :D

Wow, that was easy, app store app just works.
THINK DIfFERENT! Don't use the web site. Download the app, actually, I cannot believe it worked! Took all of 45 seconds to reserve. WOW.

Worked with ease on the first one....second I get "Due to high demand, we are not currently accepting iPhone 4 reservations via the Apple Store app. To pre-order or reserve yours, please visit apple.com/iphone/pre-order":mad::mad::mad:

It *IS* checking the AT*T servers. I get the same error message on the App Store App as I do on store.apple.com.

For purchase, perhaps, but I think in-store reservation is foregoing the AT&T check in at this point. Earlier in the morning, the app would crash when trying to check with AT&T. Now everything goes through -- but it seems everyone's confirmation emails for in-store reservation list the full, unsubsidized price.

Just when my rage against AT&T had subsided...

I managed to pre-order from the AT&T website this morning, but I never received a confirmation email? Should I be worried?

They gave me an order number, but no email. Do you think the network congestion might be interrupting their outgoing emails? Did someone pre-order from the AT&T website and got an email?

Yes, just did, two separate phones, two orders, two emails. It was slow, but it seemed to have worked.

Those of you saying to use the app. I do not see where you can order a phone. It only allows me to "reserve" a phone to be picked up at a Apple store. I did not have today for it and it did not give me a time to pick it up. Basically, I am still standing in line with everyone else. I do not see a point to this.

That doesn't mean anything. The Apple Store and the AT&T Store give different error messages and they're dealing with actual orders, not reservations.
No. You're telling me people who are getting a new iphone who dont have any iphone creditials are going to have to wait longer than people who are upgrade eligible? How many lines do you think apple is going to make? One for walk ins, one for reserves who are upgrading, one for reserves who are new.
Are you physically incapable of reading the small print? It explicitly says reservations are limited to first-come-first-serve. I can't make it any clearer than that.
Plus you're mistaken because in the app itself it does ask me for my billing zip, social, and number like the webpage.
Did you actually read the page for reserving? The last time I checked it said there were connection issues and that they were redirecting you to reservations. Important difference.

$699??!

I reserved one at my local store, which was a lot harder to do online at 4a this morning than it should have been, but it clearly bypassed my AT&T info... I'll be able to clear that up at the store before I actually buy it, right?

There is a BIG difference between reserving an iPhone and ordering one. To order one and pay for it, the system has to verify your eligibility, access your account, etc. To reserve one...not so much. The Apple Store app only lets you reserve one for a local store. The Apple Store online allows for either ordering or reserving.

That being said, has anyone been successful at ordering one, etiher through ATT.com or Apple.com?

You're mistaken. When you open the app instead of clicking on "reserve your iPhone 4" click on the banner above it. It's the same preorder process as the online apple store.

Given my work schedule, online order & delivery are pretty much the only option for me; both the Apple store & AT&T's site are still giving me problems - AT&T won't even let me get past the log in (it prompts me to log in, then gives me the "we're upgrading our system, try again later" message - which makes in entirely too happy that I pre-scheduled my payment, otherwise, I'd be in a world of hurt on that). Apple just keeps erroring out - telling me my request couldn't be processed, and then telling me my session has expired due to inactivity (um ... ya think?).

And the App? "Book Reservation" is my only option, stating "your product will be available until the end of the day."

I wonder how many sales Apple's going to lose because they end up with people like me: "you know what? this is too much hassle, and I don't actually need the phone because my current phone works just fine."

I'm not "pissed off" at Apple or AT&T over this, but I am disappointed. You have how many people upgrading from 3G phones, let alone the 3Gs? And how many new customers do you want? This would be almost enough to scare me away, if I were a new customer coming over specifically for this phone.

So we think they're just bypassing the upgrade check for reserved phones since they'll be in a store anyway/won't have to ensure the person can actually upgrade?

Just got through preorder with iPhone app

I just completed the preorder process using Apple's new iPhone retail app. It hung up earlier this morning, but I always got further in the process than when I tried online through the Apple website. After it got past the eligibility verification, things were smooth sailing. So I'll be picking up my new iPhone4 next Thursday at the local Apple store! My work is done for the day. :D

Third final page attempt went through... I had to refresh about twenty times to get past the initial error page before you select the phone, though.

You know, we've had this basically every iPhone launch. I'm kind of used to it at this point, which is kind of sad.

It's YOUR fault

You just HAVE TO have it now, don't you? YOU stand in lines in thousands, for days. YOU cause the servers to crush by logging in every two minutes. Calling every two minutes...

Relax.

+1 to all who mentioned the Apple Store App. I will be happier if I get an email confirmation but currently says I have one reserved here in Austin, TX.

got my order through apple store check your cart i checked it and had 4 iphones siting in there i had to dump 3 and keep one

put my CC info in there and BOOM !

only took me 10 hours but i got it done

Same old order number by apple

Woohoo!!!

WOOP! Just got through using apples website. Got it all ordered and stuff, should be here on the 24th! SWEEEET!

Had no luck at all on AT&T's site and been having tons of trouble with APPLEs site all day too, guess I just hit it when they got everything going, or I just lucked out...

Anyone know if there's been problems on this kind of level before? It just seems like this is just insane... You'da thunk it that AT&T would be somewhat prepared...

I'm sure they were more then somewhat prepared. But planning will only get you so far on something like this...

History in the Making

1. Apple launches new iPhone.
2. AT&T servers grind to a halt.
3. 90% of Americans attempt pre-orders for the "latest gadget" while ignoring responsibilities.
4. American economy experiences collapse due to lost productivity.
5. Technology companies go out of business for lack of toilet paper and food sales.
6. Trade, barter, gold and silver returns as national currency.
7. American people experience massive weight loss and health resurgence as they are forced to quit corporate jobs and once again hunt and grow their own food.

I think that means you have to pay the 600 since I didn't get any 600 option.

As I said in the other thread, I called the store about this and they said it's an error and you will only be charged that if you are not eligible for an upgrade through AT&T. Call the store, they'll tell you.
