I've seen an Atomic update in the last few weeks but iCab hasn't updated for a while now, not since iOS 4 released. I exchanged some emails with the author a month or so back and he was working on stuff so maybe he's on holiday or working on a big release or something. He hasn't done an iOS 4 update so there's probably lots of stuff to work on.Just me or has it been ages since either of these were updated?

That guy just amazes me. I've emailed him about 10 different suggestions and he's always replied within 24 hours with a detailed response (for most of my suggestions the response was that either he was already planning it or there were good reasons as to why it hadn't been done). Given that iCab is quite popular, and I would have though that he gets a lot of email, I don't know how he does it.Emailed the developer (1 day ago) - suggest to him to have an option when loading a website will automatically display full screen instead of manually tapping the icon. In respond he said he is working on full screen and URL. That could be very interesting.

Having just come to the world of iPhone/iPad apps after years of Palm and then Windows Mobile use I'm really liking the fact that for a lot of the apps in the Appstore the developers will reply personally to suggestions and bug reports and obviously really care about their products. It reminds me of the very early days of PalmOS back in the late 1990s; the Palm ecosystem has all but died but it seems to have risen from the flames to be reborn even stronger within the Apple app world.

The instapaper bug in icab drives me nuts and atomic crashes too much.
I was talking about icab. I personally prefer iCab but I accept that it's a very close run race and probably comes down to personal taste rather than finding a killer feature in one or the other.what app are we talking about here? Should I get atomic then?

The icab developer just made good on a promise and has pushed an update that includes better zoom levels. The zoom on the latest version of icab is almost to comedy levels, it goes to massive magnification. I haven't done side by side comparisons (difficult with only one iPad) but I'm pretty sure it goes at least as high as Safari and I get the feeling it might even go higher.lokerd said:Also, why can't either iCab or AB enalrge pages as big as Safari?
I've probably done an average of 3 or 4 hours a day of iPad surfing, all with iCab, and I've had my iPad since 27th May so about 6 weeks. I'd say I've had iCab crash on me 3 or 4 times. Each time it just disappeared and dropped me back to the home screen. I've never had a lock up.I have Atomic but it's crashing with seemingly increased regularity
What is you guy's experience on how often iCab crashes?
Rengoku said:The crashing with Atomic Browser is due to it running out of memory. Ever since I set up the virtual memory hack a couple weeks back, it doesn't crash anymore. I assume iCab is crashing for similar reasons.
You can default the home page on iCab but I don't know if you can do a local file. There might be a workaround though because in iCab you can add offline bookmarks; when you bookmark a page you can set it to an offline bookmark which I assume (I've not tried it) means that a local copy is stored, essentially making a file:// for you. If you have a web server that you can control then you could build your page on the web server, browse to it in iCab, and add it as an offline bookmark.powerbooks said:On my regular mac, I always default a local html file as the homepage which contains tablet of bookmarks for fast access (and less crowded bookmark menu). I can't do so on any iDevice because Apple disables the file:// open function in its browser. Does any of the third party browser allows this? On the similar front, can I default a homepage on these browsers when launching? Thanks.
How does this work?
No ....For those running icab on their ipads. Does anyone here notice that if you X out of the broswer and then go back into it, the back button grays out meaning you can no longer go back to the previous page? this only happens on my ipad, not the iphone version.
No ....
... I didn't notice it before, but you're absolutely right. I just tried it and yes, it definitely happens on my iPad too. Funny how I never noticed that before.
Try emailing the author, he tends to be very responsive.
