You just asked the most beautiful, fundamental question.

Dear Apple, I know you care deeply about reducing friction points in your customers experience.
Please consider this question.
That’s exactly what screwed everyone over. I don’t remember doing this for the iPhone 8 plus. Then again I got the unlocked sim free version which wasn’t offered yet this launch. Bulltastic to say the list.

Should these company’s spend a few million upgrading servers and hire more people for one day of crazy ordering just so you can have a phone?
Everyone who stays up to buy one the second it’s open knows there are a million other people doing the same and there is always a chance of delay.
Sit back and relax and wait for your phone

Just so we can have a phone is the whole point... They're in the business of selling phones!

first of all, no company that makes anything is under any obligation to make all inventory for any possible buyer available on the day something releases.

apple announced the day it goes on sale online, and they announced the day it will go in sale at retail...the rest is on you.

will you go to apple store next friday at 6pm and pitch a fit because they have no more phones in stock and the ad says goes on sale 11/3? ever try to buy concert tickets? ever want a certain seat but someone else gets it, or maybe you don’t get a seat at all? who is to blame there?

the real problem is that the app and website was down, hence Apple screwed me over of getting and losing the 11/3 delivery date.

NO, my point is Apple should’ve had the app store or the online store to be up so people can order. Failure to provide services on the day or in this case minutes of launch is an absolute disgrace to the customers who are ordering. I mean, seriously I’m still so pissed about it. I wonder if by them giving me a case and moving my estimate to “2 days earlier” is for them to brush me off and forget how much they screwed me over. Except the 5s, because I ordered it late and I take full responsibility for the month wait, I’ve always gotten release day iphones. I’m very salty and upset...

dude. the app store AND the website WAS up. that’s how they sold so many that you couldn’t get one on launch day. tons of people got through, not everyone in the world got through.

it’s like traffic in the street... the road can only handle so many at once. some win, some lose. this is the democracy of the internet.

Guess what, that how it works. Some get in some don't. The site was not down for EVERYONE hence no issue that need fixing; some got in some couldn't. Logistics of the internet. Luck of the draw same as every year Many can prove by their order times that Apple's site was up and ATT verified just fine. My order was 3:06 via Apple store app and ATT verification just fine; so your premise it was down until 3:10 is bogus.

Again, I had this same issue last year couldn't get in. Still got a phone by searching locally a day or 2 after launch and didnt beg and complain to Apple to get freebies.

Sorry to tell you but it WAS up and running for people to order before “3:10am.”

I just sent another email to my case manager. I mean Apple should’ve known better not to change someone’s Order. That is fraudulent unacceptable business practice. FRAUD.

I got you but not my point. My point is that I’ve successfully secured an order for 11/3 pickup. Then Apple send me an email and it was bumped to 11/17-24 timeframe and pick up was no longer available. That was my point all along. Apple changing my order.

The Carrier stores seem to overpromise and under deliver. AT&T site was showing 11/3 delivery an hour after pre orders went live. No way that's true. Going to be many mad customers when dates start slipping. Has happened before with AT&T. Buying directly from Apple, at least you can count on the delivery date given when you order.
Actually Launch day delivery orders were still available at 6 AM EDT for most combinations. The 256 GB models were the first to move to "catch" this: Ships Nov. 2-10. The Silver 64 GB at AT&T was still available until after 1 PM EDT with a ships Nov. 2-10 (Normal AT&T orders get a 7 day window if not already in inventory). While Apple was already in December.

This year, everybody ran to the Apple Store app, all the rumors that it was the fastest, fewest clicks and other random factors finally allowed the Apple Store app to fail for many users just like the web systems have in the past and again this year. Hint Apple even has that lovely "Reserve" queue to dump lots of unhappy customers in, so they were planning for failure just like last year.

Other customers were able to use the app and get in and reach order complete by 3:04 so the systems were indeed up. We had the IUP renewals, new IUP requests (all IUP had to use the app) and lots of customers that had not done a dry run to make sure all their data was correct and update. The carriers were running smooth until about 3:06 AM EDT.

Hey, AT&T even had a handy Queue to wait in. Kind of like managing load.

That does suck and I’m sorry about that but it does state on the website that delivery dates can be changed and are not guaranteed. Apple was down for me until about :12 too so I chose to go with AT&T which actually allowed me to place my order 5 minutes before preorders were due to open! I guess it’s true what they say...if you’re on time you’re late, if you’re early you’re on time. Not fair at all, I get it, but knowing that this has happened in the past I was better prepared this time around. I do have to say I’m shocked that it took Apple so long to go live. My guess is that they went live it was just way too much traffic on their site. I wasn’t able to get into the app at all until 30 minutes prior.

Post up your confirmation info, I’m sure you will get better answers if it happened like you said
I originally had a “reservation number” hat starts with a B60xxx. This is when I successfully captured the 11/3 pickup in store. When I checked the emails, the pickup no longer exist and now I’m forced and kicked to 11/17-24. Disgusting.

I didn’t say it disinterests me. I actually said I was curious what you wanted AT&T to give you as compensation. Sorry if that makes you mad also.
Sorry man I was just upset, I got you.

Well the fact that you got the "Reservation" means that your order failed and you did not actually have a confirmed store with a set pick-up window. If you did you would not received the "Reservation" with a Bxxx, it would have been an order Wxxxxx. The store pickup option was very limited due to the reduce launch day allocations. Once they were gone, there no way someone can add an addition unit to the store inventory for you.

From my understanding, reserving is basically holding something for someone right? That means they had a phone reserved for me st launch day pick up, correct? Why would they “reserve” and then turn around and say I don’t have one in launch day and give me 11/17-24 delivery? Fraudulent malpractice there.

And a $1000 dollar phone...
Exactly. If it’s just a phone I would’ve gotten a note 8 or something basic android out there.

Well some people pay Verizon every month and would be SOL on the only model they can purchase since it’s a CDMA network and can’t work on all the GSM models that att and t mobile are all capable on. So when everyone needs there coveted Verizon model it would hurt the chances for the actual customers who NEED that model in order for their network to actually work. So it’s very fair. If there weren’t networks using CDMA still best believe apple would only be using intel.

What? Apple makes only two models in the US at least and one is used on AT&T, T-mobile and Verizon and a model for sprint. The Sprint model will work on all US carriers and the other will work on most carriers with the exception of sprint or any of their MVNOS

It is just a phone.... I was going to pre order it but I'm on vacation and didn't want to be up at 3 am to pre order it. I'll get one when it lowers in price. Happy with my Note 8. Was going to be a secondary phone anyways for me.

It was probably because word got out that they were open early and everyone rushed to the site.

I'm glad I ended up using the App Store. AT&T was giving me a 18 minute wait, so I kept trying the App Store until it came up. Picked it out my favorites and checked out.

Nice. I was actually looking at basic android phones like note 8 too but I decided to spend my money for something more worthy.

It worked fine for me. Store came up about 3:06. Places my order. AT&T verification failed first time told me they reserved one for me, took me back to the same place tried again went through perfectly with a Nov 3rd delivery date (already shipped out and showing on UPS)

That’s insane. This whole reservation thing caused me my order.
