I originally had a “reservation number” hat starts with a B60xxx. This is when I successfully captured the 11/3 pickup in store. When I checked the emails, the pickup no longer exist and now I’m forced and kicked to 11/17-24. Disgusting.

Sorry man I was just upset, I got you.
It's possible Apple screwed up and you didn't quite make the cutoff? I had a reservation B303xxxxx email and I'm still on track doe 11/3 delivery.

I agree I didn't understand the point of the carrier verification when I was paying full price, but I didn't have problems getting mine release day.

Man I'd be pretty incensed in your position too.

I was in a similar spot for the 6S Plus. In addition to what you've done already I'd start focusing on constsntly looking for In Store Reservations once the phone launches. I did that with the 6S Plus and got just a few weeks after launch day.

Spending that much to upgrade everything for one day of crazy preorders doesn’t make sense, it would drive the cost of the phone even higher
Umm, no you can get temporary capacity on demand spun up. Hell, they could have rented a few thousand virtual hosts in AWS's cloud for 24 hours, just to crunch the initial order rush.

Apple has several data centres of their own. Lots of ways that they could have brought up additional capacity just for the time it was needed.

Ok I finally talked to ATT and they said it was an unprecedented launch blah blah blah and nothing they could’ve done to prevent the failure. So they offered me a $25 credit to my bill.

Still pissed but I felt bad for the agent because it wasn’t his fault so i accepted the credit and I politely ended the conversation.

Still mad as hell right now.

I sent another email to my senior Apple adviser. Let’s see what’s the latest she has for me. Should be calling me today in the afternoon since she comes in at 12.

UGH she better give me some good news.

They need to honor my 11/3 pickup. Long shot but that’s what I’m expecting a phone in my hand by 11/3.
Fair enough, but given that its now November 1, I agree with you it is a long shot.

I don't want to sound dismissive of Apple or make excuses for them, but I will say stuff happens and mistakes occur. It sounds like you got some recompense with ATT, and also its not like your order was cancelled but delayed. I'm just saying the scope of things it could have been worse and you will get a phone

There are still limits to how things work no matter how many AWS hosts you spin up. I bet they had some crazy database locking that night. can't fix that with AWS

Heh. Maybe. It's not like they couldn't have run load simulations though - and eliminated the bottlenecks. 🙂 There's a lot you can do with temporary table spaces and segmenting your reads and writes in the application. 🙂

But, again, what's the incentive for Apple to do that? They're getting our orders regardless. Hopefully the next time they have a launch this busy, we'll find they've fixed some of those bottlenecks.

I don’t think the next would be as busy. This busy schedule happens only when a huge redesign is in play. I’m betting next year would be like an S version.

Hate to break it to you but it’s probably not going to happen...as I’ve said before Apple and carriers do not GUARANTEE delivery by any date. We could all wake up and find our dates pushed back.

Maybe - there are a lot of people that held off though - people afraid that FaceID won't be reliable - people that think that the screen is too small and want an iPhone X+ 🙂
If Apple comes out with another one next year that's an inch bigger, you'll get the rest of the + crowd to migrate (and FaceID will be fully proven by then....all the kinks worn out).

I think the 11 might just surprise a lot of people in terms of how well it sells. I'm sure Apple will also do something else to tantalize a lot of us....like make the PVD on the darker one the DLC coating from the watch. 🙂

Apple- website is down and App Store was down until 3:10am... at that point everyone else already placed their order and delivery slipped to 2 weeks.
ATT- carrier verification failed million times!!! It keeps giving me Error Failed when it came to entering my account info.
ATT/Apple- when I finally got thru the order, I originally got 11/3 release day pick up but I received a “reserved your iPhone” message and I ended up losing my 11/3 pickup and they gave me 2-3 weeks 11/17-24 delivery.
Please explain how the Apple App and website were down when others were able to get into both prior to 3:10...

From what I've read many people here in MR were unable to process their orders prior to 3:10am (EST). I don't know if it was up or down, but some folks were able to get in sooner while others could not

If people were able to get in, the Site or App wasn’t down. Either way, no guarantees that you would get an 11/3 phone even if you were able to get into the site or app sooner.

If I can’t get in, that means it’s down. Simple logic.
Really? I was able to get in at 3:03...how could it be down if I was able to get in? Was it magic?

The error they got was that the apples store was down. If I can find a post, about that I will, but it seems for some people they were not apple to access the store because it was showing down where it seems others could
