e 4 didn't ship until 5pm Wednesday 06/22/2010 and arrived at my house on Thursday 06/23/2010 before noon. I spent the entire day/night before launch day with it and on launch day I showed people in Apple Store lines.

I read accounts that a lot of Apple and AT&T orders arrived a day early. So, just sit tight :)

I had the exact same experience. Nothing better than having a product 12 hours before a good % of other customers. :D

Premier Order - Confirmed 9/14 856am EDT
Current Status - Preorder Processing

Regular AT&T Order - Confirmed 9/15 100am (Credit Card charged)
Current Status - Pending Shipment, Backorder (1)

Spoke to AT&T Premier and confirmed I'll be receiving phone in 14-21 days. Complained and asked since I ordered it "in time" compared to some people who ordered later than me and getting a backorder of 0 on their regular AT&T Order, why did my order got pushed back since they're implementing a "first-come-first-served" policy.

She responds by saying, "Good point! But you're not the only one experiencing this. And we received so many orders for the phone it was overwhelming!"

I just responded, "Well, if Apple can better handle orders as much as 3x more than what you're handling, why can't you? It just shows how disorganized your company is. It's not an explanation, you're trying to give me an excuse."

And so on and so forth... In the end, I just decided I'll wait at the AT&T Store and see if I can get one. Then cancel this preorder since it won't ship until Oct anyway.

This is the 1st time I ordered thru AT&T. I woke up at 230am and was trying the Apple website for more than an hour. I did it because when I finally got through on the Apple website, it already showed a 2-week estimate and AT&T still shows a Sep 21 delivery.

Oh well, this is the 1st and last.

How is everyone who has a "0" for backorders sure that the phone will ship tomorrow? I ordered at about 7:30 EST, but there were credit card problems (which Premier never told me about) and I had to call them Saturday morning. So now it says 9/15 on the AT&T status page (but still 9/14 on Premier) and I have a "0" for backorder that changed yesterday. Do you guys really think I'll get it Friday despite the CC problems? A pending charge has also been in my account since Saturday for the full amount.

Update: Also, I only got the initial email "should arrive as early as 9/21" and nothing else.

Another sobering update.. if certain iPhones have shipped and yours hasn't, it's probably because they have farther to go to reach their destination by launch day. Everyone's iPhone that has been confirmed for 9/21 will receive them on that day or a day before if history is any indication.

If mine comes early, I won't get it anyway - unless FedEx accepts a barking dog as a signature and leaves the package at my door. I hope they give us enough forewarning so we can make arrangements for a signature since everyone in my house is gone all day. I really want it Friday, but if I don't get it, that's fine (well, sorta), but I just want to know WHEN it's coming.

Ordered mine via premier 6:15am on the 14th. Went to backorder 0 on Sunday 16th. I'm sure it will be here on the 21'st. If not, I'll take my wife's that I ordered from Apple :)

I was just curious that I thought the media said Apple sold out in an hour. How does ATT have enough inventory until eight hours after that?

Ordered through premier @ 7:50ish AM CST on 9/14. The email confirmation / link to the business portal shows "preorder processing". The standard "check status" link shows backordered "1" still.

Called AT&T premier and got a nice gentleman that looked in some system and said that mine showed the contract was accepted on 9/15 (I didn't accept anything the day after, so this tells me someone had to batch process something the next day) - and that his system showed Oct 4th - 14th as my shipping time.

So...may send my assistant out that morning to see if one can be gotten at a store and cancel this order. Otherwise, I'll just wait. And if I wait long enough, I may end up talking myself into waiting for the 5s. Hard to imagine that as a gadget geek I would do that, but I may find something else to fill the void and tinker with. :D

Interestingly enough, the same 16GB White AT&T model that I ordered and subsequently cancelled through Apple's site had an Oct 4th shipment date on the email. And I ordered that closer to 3am CST.

Here's a screenshot of the order screen with the tracking shown. The shipper is UPS and there is no data on where the shipment is coming from in the system yet, which means is have to be in the US somewhere since the ship date is 9/20.

Dude, the shipped phone is your iPhone 4 from 2010. I'd hope by now it was shipped.

They don't/didn't, they just kept taking pre-orders. They don't care when you get your phone as long as they get their money all is good.

maybe Apple KNOWS what they are doing and sold them twice as fast???? I dunno - just a stupid thought.

Yeah, I'm gonna have my butler go get me one if I don't get mine on Friday. :)

As an assistant - I take great offense to that. If you want your phone - get off your ass and get it yourself. She's your assistant - not your personal shopper.

Think of it as a day off, you want me to go do your shopping? Sure, I'll go but I want my regular salary + a free iPhone for my trouble. Also know the state tax just went up 9% gonna need some more dough to cover that on the side plus cab fare.

Want me to be your bitch? I'll be your bitch but it'll cost you dearly.

I like the way you think.

Then they should get a different job, if it's within your specified working hours and your job description is ambiguous and varying then I'd say getting an iphone is "assisting" in the boss acquiring an iphone. Lol :p

**ANOTHER PREMIER UPDATE**

For reference:

Ordered 7:15 AM EST on release day

Within the past 30 minutes, backorder went to 0 and I got the CSS email

I ordered a phone on AT&T (for my folks) and Verizon (switching from AT&T, for myself) at roughly the same time (3:36 EST).

Verizon - went smoothly, no problem. Shipping number received this morning, delivery on Friday hopefully.

AT&T - backordered (1)

At the time I placed the order, AT&T/Verizon/etc had obviously not yet said they had sold out of initial stock, so this is frustrating for my folks, who wanted the phone before they traveled.

Ah well, fun to be part of this insanity in a weird way. And as long as I get my phone (goodbye forever, AT&T), I'll be pretty content :D

going out to get your boss an iphone becuase he was too stupid/lazy to order it early enough is not in ANY job description.

if you're a personal assistant it is. depends on your assisting job description.
He/she (don't want to be sexist) could argue it's for the good of the business and if you are getting paid what would it matter.

also worthy to note not all bosses are in said position because of work ethic and/or intelligence.

well, if it's for the good of the business - then his assistant needs one too!

FWIW, and similar to what others have posted, I just spoke with AT&T. The rep, obviously reading from a script, said: "Orders placed before 9:00 am Pacific time on September 14 will deliver on or ship by September 21. Orders placed after that time will ship 14 to 21 days later."

I asked her to verify that the script says "deliver on or ship by September 21" and she said "yes, that's what it says."

Other than that, she wasn't much help.

I don't think the poster said their assistant was a "she." Also, some assistant jobs include running errands, such as picking up lunch, getting coffee, taking clothes to the dry cleaners, taking car to get detailed, picking up office supplies, etc. Just because someone is an assistant, it doesn't mean they are the standard office assistant that takes calls, looks over documents for cases, etc. So I wouldn't down the poster based on your personal job description.

ordered mine 830 am release day not on backorder but i have only received the T&C email and the confirmation email that black iphone 16gb was ordered. Not premeir and ordered through phone. What is the CSS email everyone is talking bout?

I was an accountant for a small, family-owned company, the kind of people who have everyone do everything for them. I got called on a Saturday to call pay per view and order boxing for my boss. He also called on a Sunday night to find out the name of the shop his hairdresser worked in. In this economy, you do whatever you have to to keep your job. Sucks.

Well I guess some solace is that my iPhone ordered through Apple has shipped but I haven't received my shipping notification and the site says preparing for shipment, if I didn't know about the UPS tracking by reference trick I would be in the same boat with ATT and Apple. So maybe ATT isn't that bad.
