I have officially lost hope of getting my phone this Friday (or anytime soon). Just got email from AT&T that I HOPED was to say congrats I'm getting it earlier, but instead just confirming it will ship in 14-21 days.

This threads been fun but I'm officially quitting now. Good luck everyone ✌

Swing by your local store on Friday. You may be surprised by how much stock they are diverting to the physical outlets. Then just cancel your online order.
 
Does anyone have a tracking number listed in their order status and it doesn't appear in FedEx's database yet? I am guessing after a certain time tonight they will update on FedEx's end.

Yes. It means that the shipping label has been printed, but it hasn't been scanned into FedEx's system yet.

It's all good....
 
Well I ordered at 715AM EST and my order still shows Processing, Shipment Pending, Date ordered 9/14/12. I used the Main AT&T site. I thought it would be shipped already since I made it before the cutoff?

I just noticed my charge for my phone has been credited back to my account, I hope they didn't cancel my order. I'm going to my at&t store in a little to get to the bottom of it.

The same thing happened to me. I had a pending charge on my credit card for the full amount since last Friday, and this morning I noticed that it was gone. Sometime after that, my order status changed to "shipped" and now the pending charge is back on my credit card. Maybe your order is in the process of being shipped.

I successfully ordered my phones via the AT&T website at 3:58am EST after repeatedly trying to place an order since 3am (when the launch began).

Shortly thereafter, I received a confirmation message stating that my phones would ARRIVE on September 21.

However, my orders still show as pending and back ordered via the AT&T order status website.

I called the online orders customer service number at AT&T and was extremely polite with the representative I spoke to. I started by apologizing for adding to the iPhone 5 drama with my call, and I sympathized with her that I'm sure things are crazy for them right now.

We have to remember that there are literally millions of phones being shipped out for these orders.

I calmly explained that I simply wanted to confirm with her that my phones would be delivered to me on the 21st as stated in my confirmation email.

The representative explained to me that there is a window of time on the 14th within which you needed to have your CREDIT CARD PREAUTHORIZATION in order for your phones to be delivered on the 21st or 22nd. That window goes from 3am EST until shortly after noon EST.

In my case, like I said, I placed my order at 3:58am EST, but my credit card preauth didn't go through until shortly after 10am. Who knows what caused the delay... Regardless, mine went through within the window, and she stated that I should expect my phone to arrive as stated in my confirmation email.

She also went on to explain that there are 2 separate warehouses from which the iPhones will be delivered from AT&T. She explained that it looks like my phones are located at the warehouse in Texas, which is still processing its allotment of iPhone 5s. She stated that was the reason that my order status had not updated to reflect as "shipped" because they have yet to ship. This does not necessarily mean they wont ship in time for a Friday delivery - Texas isn't far away from Florida, and these orders will be shipped "priority" anyway, which is an overnight service.

So, if you placed your order during the early morning hours of Friday the 14th, and if your credit card was preauthorized before noon EST that same day, then you are most likely to receive your phone as stated in your confirmation message.

If your preauth did not go through prior to noon est, then your confirmation message likely states that your phone will arrive in 14-21 days. Unfortunately, that is when your phone will arrive.

So, basically - the best information is found in your confirmation message, irregardless of what the AT&T website says about your order status. The order status will be updated with shipping information as soon as your phone is shipped, and for a Friday delivery, shipments can go out as late as Thursday.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. But, if I don't get my phone on Friday, life will continue to go on and I'll just have to deal with it.

In the mean time, go get iOS6 and install it on your current iPhone (if you have one). It's available as an update from iTunes or via your iPhone's settings menu, and it's essentially the same on the iPhone 4S as it will be on the iPhone 5 (aside from a larger screen). That should hold you over until your new iPhone arrives.

When are you guys going to realize - there is no reason to panic until tomorrow afternoon. Overnight shipping is simply that....OVERNIGHT. Your order can go to Backorder 0 tomorrow and you'll still get your phone on Friday. And even if you aren't one of the lucky ones to get your phone on Friday, why do you think calling AT&T every day is going to change that. It is what it is, they're not going to change your shipping just because you call them. Leave them alone and let them help people who really need their assistance, not someone who just wants to B***H and complain and be rude to them. It's not THEIR fault....it's YOURS.

That said, anyone have a example reference number on FedEx? How is it constructed? Combination of phone+reference number? Order number?
 
Yes, I think that means they're labelled and sitting in the warehouse waiting to be picked up by FedEx. When FedEx picks them up and scans them, they'll be in their system.

This was my thinking but just wanted to confirm. Seems like I am the opposite of some orders. Others are saying Shipped but no Tracking. Mine says Processing with a ship date of 9/17.
 
Ive been reading this thread for a few days myself, but all people do is complain.
NOBODY CARES.

All people want is their tracking # and then they could care less.

I ordered my iPhone 16gb @ 620am est 9/14.
Yesterday = went from 1 to 0 backordered.
Last night = I got a tracking #.

What more is there to say.
There is no pattern besides the early bird gets the iPhone.

AT&T accidentally canceled my first order. I ordered 10 minutes after launch, so guess what? I complained and I had every right too. I then argue with them to the point where they credit my account $100 and re-order the phone. You are blind or ignorant if you think this thread is only about tracking numbers and needless complaints. People come here with their stories which can help others in the process of finding an order, seeing if they should contact AT&T if they have similar issues, or maybe we just like hearing these stories and letting the author know we feel for them.

The posts this thread does not need is yours. You are the epitome of your own complaint.
 
Just checked and says shipped. I am in California and ordered 7:45am (PST) on Premier site. Black 64Gb model. Went off back order yesterday and then to shipped last night or today sometime (didn't check it since last night). Don't see any tracking info yet.

On the other note....mine is being shipped UPS for Friday delivery and my number has no combination/phone number/order number at all.
 
I ordered black 32GB on 9/14 at 10:30AM EST through Premier. Finally got the second e-mail, only last night, around 11PM saying that my order was in progress and the delivery is "as soon as 9/21".

Today, checked status on here: https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status_results.jsp

Order status is "shipped" but no tracking number.

So to all the crazies (I include myself in this group) that are frantic wondering if you're gonna get your phone by the 21st.... we should make a poll to see how many people ordered by the cutoff (9/14 12PM EST or whatever it supposedly is) and received their phone on time. It would be interesting to see how many people did not receive their phone on time (9/21) through no fault of their own.

I am certainly not in panic mode, but i am rather annoyed that i ordered 2 hours before you, ordered the same phone, and ordered through premier, and you are getting updates/shipped before me.. i think this is AT&T's way of getting back at all the premier customers for having to give them service discounts every month lol. They actually just upped my discount from 15% to 17% a few weeks ago out of the blue, so they must not like me :D

Mine says the same as your's shows shipped 9/17/2012 via fedex no tracking, but it's only showed this as of today. No doubts i'll get it by friday just peculiar to me is all.
 
I don't have time to read all of the comments, has anyone who pre-ordered in the afternoon gotten either back order 0 and/or shipped?
 
So here's a bit of interesting news...

I ordered a three iPhone 5's in this order
1) Friday morning: 32 Gb black from AT&T premier online upgrade
2) Friday morning: 16 Gb black from AT&T premier online upgrade
3) Saturday morning: 32 GB white from AT&T telephone sales as new add on line

Today my online order status shows that phones #2 and #3 have already shipped! The #1 phone I ordered is still listed as "in process". It was the first order placed and the first to have payment preprocessed...

Of all of them I was not expecting the 3rd phone for another 2-3 weeks as I ordered late Saturday.

I'm kinda bummed that the first one is still not shipped as THAT is supposed to be my phone. The other two are for my wife and my sister in law!! My wife could actually care less whether she got an iPhone 5 and I actually forced her to upgrade her iPhone 4...

Such is my luck!

ive been pretty calm the whole time. just annoyed i guess. :) i dont mind not getting the phone friday. obviously i want to. but if i dont, its not the end of the world. i just wish ATT made it clear exactly what was going on.

people who ordered hours after me have already been "shipped". and mine has been stuck on back-ordered since last friday :/

it seems there is no pattern as to what the heck they are doing.
 
1st time poster here... and 1st iPhone.

My cell phone came up for renewal a couple months ago and decided I'd get the iPhone5 when released. I was wanting to buy local to help out my communitity and stopped by the "AT&T" store versus buy it on AT&T's site or Apple.com. I gave them my name on Thursday the 13th and handed them $25 for them to put me on the pre-order list for a black 32GB iPhone5. I learned yesterday the the "AT&T" store I pre-ordered at was not actually an AT&T corporate store, but an "authorized AT&T retailer". I never thought to even question what they were. I'm not even sure if that matters. I do know that I see no charges on my credit card, or see any orders on the wireless.att.com site.

I have no idea what time on Friday they placed the pre-order, but I do know I was #6 on a list that was at 25 as of Thursday the 13th. When I asked what time they placed the order, no one knew. (huh?!?)

I was unable to reach the "AT&T" store by phone so I called the other AT&T store in town, which is where I learned that they were the corporate AT&T store and the other store was an authorized retailer (where I gave them $25). I was told by the rep there that Apple ships two sperate orders, one for customers to buy that day, and another order that contains the pre-orders. The iPhones for customers to buy that day is suppoesd to be guaranteed to be shipped by 9/21, but pre-orders appeared to be shipped in the 14-21 business day window. This is per agreement with Apple, not AT&T's doing (so I was told). This seems unfair and just a way to hype, but I digress.

Anyhow, does anyone know if "authorized AT&T retailers" have a decent shot of getting iPhone5's on 9/21?

Because the store was not a corporate owned AT&T store I have no record of a purchase. The AT&T site does not have any record of my order.

Instead I sit here, instead of working, vicariously having fun watching you all! I guess I have no choice but to sit it out and wait for my local guys to call with the news, bad or good!

Me too. I ordered friday at 12:50am 16 white and my order is still processing and not shipped. Also, my charge is gone. No progress yet. =(

I ordered at 7:07am Eastern time through AT&T because Apple was already sold out when I tried at 4:01am for delivery on delivery date.

7:14am Got confirmation email about delivery as soon as 21st.

8:00am Card Charged for Pending Authorization

updated to processing on 9/15/2012 sometime...

On Monday, 9/17,2012 after 5pm charge disappeared (as I was using debt card)

Tuesday 9/18/2012 around 10pm received email saying I would receive phone soon as 9/21/2012. Expect a new email for tracking number.

Wednesday 9/19/2012 ordered was updated on to reflect shipping on 9/17/12 according to at&t website and tracking number posted from FedEX.

As of 2:45pm, FedEX tracking number is not in database. Funds have not been removed from my account.

Confident that I will receive by Friday, 9/21/12. Funds will probably be removed between 9/21/12 - 9/24/12.

There is no particular pattern that AT&T is using. Different hubs and distribution centers are handling different orders. Those that have not received a tracking number will probably receive one by Thursday evening when their systems update for delivery on 9.21.12 if you ordered before 11:30AM on 9/14/12 and if you received the email saying you will receive phone as of 9/21/12.

Just relax a bit. I ordered from Apple every year but this year and they handle the situation MUCH better, but its also a different company handling the issue so what can you expect. AT&T is NOT known for their customer service or for their customer services reps always giving out the right information. For example, they are giving the lines out of 14-21 days because if they deliver before or at these dates they do not have to deal with a bigger problem.

I would assume most people who ordered on Friday 9/14/12 before 11:30am will get theres by 9/21/12 and anyone who ordered after will receive before 9/28/12.

you would think. but i ordered at 9:15 and only got 1 email from ATT (AT 9:52AM), A text message a few hours later (so random) and that was all. stuck on back-ordered since then. idk.

Before you do, check to make sure you can still get your upgrade deal. Someone posted earlier here that cancelling his order also killed his upgrade.
