If I receive my brother's iPhone first (same black 64GB as mine) can I activate it with my number? Haha.

sure. any att number can do. but you have to cut your sim card's size to fit in the iPhone. but why not just use his number to activate the phone and switch the number afterward?
 
Here is my timeline to-date:

9/14 5AM EST: Ordered 64GB iPhone @ regular ATT site. Final order page said "Will receive 9/21"; Email confirmation was silent on delivery date.


9/15: Called ATT CS to confirm $5 text plan xfered and also to find out why when I checked out why two LTE plans were listed, one specifically w/o visual voice. At end of conversation asked if phone would be delivered on 9/21. Was told it would ship on 9/21. Told CS agent site said "delivered," was told site was wrong. Left it at that. Did not believe CS agent was authoritative regarding ship date and was giving "worst case scenario."

9/18 Approx 5PM EST: Order goes from Backorder = 1 to Backorder = 0
Approx 8PM EST: Rec'd CSS via email (All grandfathered plans xfered)

9/19 Approx 2:30PM EST: Status page reports Shipped = 1, but no carrier or tracking number listed yet. Tracking by Reference on UPS = nil. FedEx Insight (for FedEx Acct holders) = nil. Assume data will eventually make it to the ATT site and/or one of the shippers.
 
Follow-up to my earlier posts where the AT&T site said "Processing" and nothing else. I received an email last night saying it was reserved for "as soon as Sept 21."

It now says Shipped, with no tracking number yet. (Hooray! The important information is that it has been prepped for shipping.)

I ordered at 7:30 AM on the 14th via Premier, 16GB Black.
 
Great news for you! Mine still shows backorder. I just wish I could know when it was coming so I can make arrangements at work. I don't want FedEx or whoever just leaving the phone on my doorstep nor do I want them to not deliver and come back the following Monday. I'd have no problem with the phone coming on Saturday but I don't know if they do that.

thats my main concern too. i want to be home if its coming (need to arrange with work) since i dont want it sitting outside my door all day.

honestly, at this point with no correspondence from ATT, i think im out of luck.

Yeah that's basically what I meant. Get his phone. Activate. Then switch the number on it to mine. I wonder if he would find out...:D
 
I haven't gotten any email or text from them since the original order notification. I'm not going to sweat it until 11:59pm on the 21st. After that, I will get a little upset.

With that said, I'm scouring these sites all day and have refreshed my order status about 1000 times.

I have a unique story as well. I, just like most people on here have been frantically checking that ATT order status page. I placed my order through premier online at around 7:20 A.M. Central time Friday September 14. I received my confirmation email along with the order number immediately after I placed the order. Going through the premier order e-mail, my status on premier says "preorder processing and order date: 9/14/2012 with the words "Latest Update:9/17/2012. If i enter my phone number on the att order status page, it comes up with my iphone 5 and various sim with backorder 1.However, it says that my order date is 9/17/2012. What's weird is that one time when i checked my order status it had a fed ex number and was no longer backordered. So i kept that fedex number from that page and it doesn't work just yet. After that one time that showed my iphone 5 with that fedex number, it's now back at backorder 1 and pending shipment. I think everyone is putting too much focus on the att order status page. I wouldn't trust it at all.
 
My situation exactly. I'm in Georgia. Wonder if it's a regional thing?

I'm thinking it is. Something to do with where it's shipped from and to. That would make sense if they're trying to time the deliveries to the 21st....then again. logic is not always the best way to look at these things.
 
I haven't really been following the thread, but here's what I've got. My confirmation email from AT&T was at 2:15 AM CST, and my card was authorized almost immediately.

I told myself I wouldn't get hysterical about it this time, but I'm seeing people who ordered several hours after I did who already have tracking numbers.

Agreed. The system is jammed with larger than anticipated volume and the status page updates are probably not a current priority.

My store told me no. I orginally ordered at the store and was told it would be a week. When I got home an email said 14-21 days. I called back and the salesperson said yep, it would be the latter. She said they would have them in the store this Friday, but that I couldn't cancel my previous order.

Really poor customer service. Typical ATT.

I ordered 64 GB white in store at about 9:15 am 9/14 (I was also told I'd get it within a week if ordered soon after store opened (opened at 9 am EST)

E-mail said 14-21 days

Today staus is "shipped", not tracking yet

Your store person may not be informed. My understanding was that each store had an allocation for in store orders.

if you activate the phone using his number, his old sim card will get disconnected.

deactivating the old sim card and activating the one in the iPhone.
 
Update for Later 9/14 Orders

I JUST got this e-mail from AT&T Premier. I know there is a thread someone started for later orderers but I'm new to this and have no idea where to find it.

I ordered at 4:34pm EST 16GB white. I ordered on AT&T but it was processed through premier. AT&T doesn't show my order until 9/16..which is super lame but oh well!!

Black 64GB Premier ordered new service at 8:45 EST on Friday. Order date shows 9/14 (good), but I am still In Progress with zeros for Shipped and Back-ordered; no tracking yet. I know I was a little behind the wave of people's Back-ordereds changing from 1 to 0 a couple days ago, so maybe my tracking is coming soon.

Just a guess -- they are shipping direct from China, but via a charter cargo jet, not UPS or FedEx equipment. If that is the case they were containerized and individual packages won't be scanned until they hit state side UPS or FedEx hub.

Again, just conjecture on my part but it fits the story right now. Events are moving pretty fast so this could be disproven in a matter of hours if tracking# and carrier info starts populating.

Typically they require one delivery attempt BUT if your driver returns before 9pm you could p/u on Friday. Check the tracking on Friday and when you see the failed delivery attempt noted call FedEx and tell them you'd like to p/u that evening.

So, if our status now says shipped (mine does, no track # yet), is it safe to assume that we will get it Friday? No backorders, got the emails, charged my CC...I had a CC problem that was rectified Saturday, but it still says shipped, etc...Thoughts?
 
I ordered mine at 9:15am CST on 9/14 and it switched to backorder 0 last night. It is a white 16GB. Still hasn't switched to shipped yet, I hope it does it soon. My CC info went through fine and it went away sometime last night, so hopefully thats a sign. I'm in Tennessee btw.

Also I ordered online, and I am not premier.

I am in TN as well and ordered at that time, that phone only in black and at an actual store. I'm currently back ordered.
