I don't know, maybe with the huge influx of iPhone 5 orders, maybe, just maybe there's also a huge shortage of actual data entry for shipments which could maybe cause the delay in our shipment details?

You know, just maybe.

Other than that, I'm pretty stoked for the delivery!
 
Black 64GB Premier ordered new service at 8:45 EST on Friday. Order date shows 9/14 (good), but I am still In Progress with zeros for Shipped and Back-ordered; no tracking yet. I know I was a little behind the wave of people's Back-ordereds changing from 1 to 0 a couple days ago, so maybe my tracking is coming soon.

I ordered 64gb Black an hour and 15 minutes before you and I'm still showing 1 back-ordered?!?! Makes no sense.

Hopefully tomorrow morning I'll wake up to find that my unit has shipped. I'm not feeling too positive about it.
 
Mine was shipped, but no tracking number like others.

New AT&T customer, ordered through regular AT&T website around 4:20 am EST on 9/14.

I ordered my phone from ATT a little too late, and I believe it will probably ship in 2-3 weeks. If i go to the ATT store on friday and am luckily enough to get my hands on one, can they cancel my order and still upgrade my phone?

My belief is yes - you can cancel. I have found the staff to be pretty helpful in sorting these types of issues out.

I ordered a bit late through Apple online - still 2 - 3 weeks out. If I get my hands on one Friday I will cancel the Apple order. It will probably require me to pay the full non-subsidy price but will get sorted later.
 
I have a tracking number and Fedex as carrier but in the shipped column it says 0 but in the shipped date it shows 9/16/12, go figure...

Theory on why some orders say "shipped" but no tracking # or carrier:

Just a guess -- they are shipping direct from China, but via a charter cargo jet, not UPS or FedEx equipment. If that is the case they were containerized and individual packages won't be scanned until they hit state side UPS or FedEx hub.

Again, just conjecture on my part but it fits the story right now. Events are moving pretty fast so this could be disproven in a matter of hours if tracking# and carrier info starts populating.

Typically they require one delivery attempt BUT if your driver returns before 9pm you could p/u on Friday. Check the tracking on Friday and when you see the failed delivery attempt noted call FedEx and tell them you'd like to p/u that evening.
 
For us folks that are still backordered and ordered before 7am EST I think we are screwed, oh well, only frustrating thing is I have no idea when to expect it, only update I have is to receive it on/around 9/21.
 
My guess is their system can't handle all the influx of orders. I wouldn't be surprised if we receive our phones this Friday and they system may not even show tracking info.
 
So, if our status now says shipped (mine does, no track # yet), is it safe to assume that we will get it Friday? No backorders, got the emails, charged my CC...I had a CC problem that was rectified Saturday, but it still says shipped, etc...Thoughts?

Oh yeah, shipped = 9/21 delivery for sure. It's all next day delivery so even if its in China right now we'll have our new toy on Friday.
 
I know that the back-order thing isn't a strong indicator of what's really going on with my order, but I figured I would share my last few days.

My timeline:

9/14/12 - 9:20AM EST - pre-ordered on the AT&T site (not Premier).
9/14/12 - 9:26AM EST - received email stating I'll receive iPhone 5 on 9/21/12.
9/14/12 - 12:50PM EST - received text stating that my preorder has been processed
9/18/12 - 3:45PMish EST - Back-Order quantity changed from "1" to "0" [Pending Shipment still]

9/19/12 - 3:35PM EST - Status SHIPPED !!!!!!! No carrier or tracking # info, but shipppppped!

how much is the 16gb iphone without the upgrade?

probably around $650+ but it's not yet available until later this year if you mean the iPhone 5.

edit: i mean the unlock.
edit: if you mean like an early upgrade... i think you have to pay $250 more. but this depends on when your contract will end.

I'd go to an ATT store now and make friends with someone there. Explain your story and make sure you can cancel AND have the ATT system recognize you are eligible for an upgrade. This way no ugly surprises on Friday. I've heard lots of horror stories about people canceling online phones so they could buy @ B&M store only to find out the system that keeps track of eligibility takes a week to reset after an order is canceled. ATT is very 1950s in terms of business methods.

Have been checking order status today and Backordered is still 1, shipped 0.

Five minutes ago I got a weird email that it will ship in "14 ? 21 business days".
 
My status just changed to "Shipped" (although I have not received a tracking number yet).

64GB black, ordered at 6:32 am Pacific time on the first day.
 
For people that have used live chat and had a sup tell them they'll call them back, has anyone received a call back yet?

Sounds like you're getting the 'premier' treatment.
 
For those of you receiving your packages by FedEx I have found that if I can "intercept" it online before it gets loaded onto the local truck for delivery, I can usually have it rerouted to my nearest FedEx Office (formerly Kinkos) for pickup on the SAME DAY as it was scheduled for home delivery.

When you put your tracking number into the system the "Hold at FedEx location" is an option. No extra charge!!!

Often times the "Hold" option is disabled until the package reaches a regional hub. But after that, all you need to do is put in your local zip and choose a nearby location.

The benefit is that the FedEx Office locations are usualy open 24 hours a day and you can pick it up at your convenience.

At this point chat or any AT&T CSR is worthless. They either don't know what exactly is going on or they're reading from a script.
 
whew!!!

finally checked and have "shipped" next to my order for a 64GB black iphone 5. i got my confirmation email last friday at 1:59am central time. i do not have a tracking number though.

about to go check my mother's order now. she wanted a 32GB white iphone 5.
 
Hmm, my phone still says backordered but I just got the AT&T e-mail confirming my reservation. I noticed that in this e-mail, there is an extra 10-digit number appended to my original weborder number.

Can someone who has a tracking number and got this e-mail confirm if the appended number has any relation to their tracking number?

My situation exactly. I'm in Georgia. Wonder if it's a regional thing?

I don't think it is... partially... My 16gb black iPhone shows a tracking number but my wife's 16gb white is still on back order. Tallahassee here. ordered in store at 0811 and 0822 EST.
