same as 4s with at&t

I ordered the 4s in store at 10 am on the opening pre-order day.

It took 17 days to get the phone.
But people who didn't pre-order were buying them up on release day from the same store.
Looks like they did the same thing this go around.

Fool me once.........
So I skipped the pre-order load of crap that AT&T sells this go around.

Hopefully they will have a 5 in stock tomorrow. The store is opening at 8............ normal time is 10.

So there is hope I suppose.

No, no, no. Under promise over deliver is when, from the outset, a company states "Your order ships in 14-21 days," and then a few days later "Surprise! Your order is shipping early." That's not what ATT did here.

Up until the early afternoon (EST) ATT's site proclaimed "Delivers on 9/21." [bold added for emphasis]. Immediately thereafter they started backtracking, even with orders that were "confirmed" at checkout for delivery on 9/21. That's not under promise, over deliver... it's the exact opposite, and it wasn't even the truth because even as they were spouting the "ships on 9/21" line, and 14-21 days delivery to everyone, universally, packages were being handed over to FedEx and UPS. At best this is laziness, at worst bald face lying.

Bottom line: ATT's CS shows nothing but indifference and even contempt for customers, especially repeating this monkey dance for 3 years going. ATT itself, held to the "delivers on 9/21" date for almost all orders -- I knew it would. I'm not critical of the company as a whole, just the part that is suppose to be the company's ambassador to the public.

i only ever saw claims of delivery AS SOON AS sept 21. never a gtee.

Well it seems that we all learned a valid lesson this year. Don't go to the at&t store for preorders. Apple.com seems to be the place to go, even though their servers crash more than anyone elses.

Some AT&T customers don't have that option. For some Premier customers like myself, we can only order on the Premier website (wouldn't work for me), by phone (kept getting hung up on), or in-store (ordered at 10:40am Eastern on Friday).

On a brighter note...I got my fiancé's 16gb white iphone5 ordered at 3:11am eastern through Apple and she'll be receiving it tomorrow. I might have to hide it for a few days just to mess with her.

WOW. You guys will like this story...

Just talked with a "supervisor" at AT&T. I ordered my phone at 9:40am EST on 9/14. She told me all phones ordered by 9am Pacific time will be here tomorrow (which is 12pm EST for those who struggle with time zone differences, as she did).

She then went on a 10-minute rampage about how 9am Pacific time is 6am EST and how eastern time is three hours BEHIND Pacific time. She backed up her argument by saying "I have the converter right in front of time".

At this point, I was too shocked to even say anything and wondering how in the hell somebody that stupid was actually hired to be a supervisor at ANY company. Once she calmed down and realized I was right, her explanation was that she "didn't know" why my phone was not in tomorrow's shipment when it was ordered 2 hours and 20 minutes before the end of the 9am Pacific time frame.

Absolutely mindblowing how stupid she was. With that said, she did tell me it would be FedEx but that I wouldn't receive it until Oct 4th-Oct 15th.

Now I read this thread some before calling anyone and I had an idea of how bad AT&T customer service was, but I never imagined it to be that bad. Also, I ordered a 32gb black phone.

So, in summary. My phone fell 2 hours and 20 minutes before the end of the 9am Pacific time frame and I'm getting screwed apparently. I have no tracking number, no charge on my bank account anymore (it was pending, now gone) and apparently I'm going to get the phone 2-3 weeks later than if I had just gone into the store tomorrow and bought one.

Who knows, maybe she's just THAT stupid and my phone will actually get here tomorrow via FedEx. Is there anyway to track a FedEx shipment with just an AT&T order number or phone number?

I haven't gotten any emails... Other than the original order has been processed

I only received 2 emails the whole time. 1 for confirmation and 1 for processed. If your not showing backorder, keep checking status. Once it says shipped, its mostly downhill from there.

Good luck

I've been keeping up with this thread off and on and thought I'd share my info in case this helps anyone predicting/analyzing their own delivery date.

I placed my order for a 32GB white iPhone on att.com at 11:16 AM CDT on September 14. I'm porting my number over from another carrier and opening a new account with AT&T. My order confirmation email said that my order would arrive on September 21. The first four digits of my order number are 1612.

My order showed up as Shipped as of September 19, but no carrier, ship date, or tracking number were listed. The morning of September 20, the carrier was listed as FedEx, the ship date was listed as September 20, and a tracking number was in place. I tracked the shipment, and it's scheduled to be delivered on September 21 before 3:00 PM.

The only email I received from AT&T was the order confirmation email on September 14.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

My tracking on UPS updated today to show delivery by 10:30 am tomorrow now. Not sure why the change since my wife's still shows just delivery by EOD tomorrow but I'm not complaining.

Well it seems that we all learned a valid lesson this year. Don't go to the at&t store for preorders. Apple.com seems to be the place to go, even though their servers crash more than anyone elses.

Additionally, If you do go with AT&T, you're better off having a conversation with a tree in your backyard than an AT&T CSR. They know absolutely nothing and give you a standard scripted answer.

Sorry I just posted that mine is shipping to arrive the 21st, but my details were pages and pages earlier... it's the white 16GB and I pre-ordered over the phone with AT&T... My terms and conditions were accepted by 7:13 PT on the 14th.

I tried to buy it through the Apple Store first, but I couldn't connect so I went to AT&T online. Then that site wouldn't confirm the purchase to I called in and they took the order over the phone. So, I can't complain about AT&T on this.

I just got a strange call from someone at ATT supposedly. The number they called from was 425-288-2869, I called it back and it's a direct line to the person that called. Anway, he called to tell me that the chat representative I spoke to had the wrong information about my iPhone arriving on the 21st and that it would be 14-21 days before I received it. I told him that mine had already shipped. He then asked me to forward the email to him that I received so they could correct their records. Why should I need to email that to him? A fraud suspicion arose as soon as they asked me to email my tracking number to him at an email that was his initials followed by 4 numbers @att.com . Am I being paranoid? Ha. I'm not emailing my tracking number to anyone!

Sounds very fishy to me.

I called FedEx earlier to ask about this. They will attempt to deliver on Friday. If you aren't there, they will attempt again on Monday. The package will be held at the shipment center over the weekend, and you can go there and pick it up on Saturday (make sure you verify the hours).

I'm in a unique situation- I'm in Chicago and the phone is being shipped to my parents hours in MN (billing address ) and my parents are on vacation. I'm literally flying back to MN for 4hrs on Saturday with the sole purpose of picking the phone up. (I work for an airline so the flight is free)

I just called up FedEx. They said, the shipper doesn't require signature on delivery but my apartment type (don't exactly know what that is) doesn't allow them to leave the package. I then asked if I could request to hold the package beforehand to pick up later, she said unfortunately due to shippers requirements, they first have to attempt to deliver and only if that fails, I could collect the package later. Also, FedEx won't be doing Saturday deliver attempts though the package would eb available for pickup at the center.

So in short, if you miss the package tomorrow and your delivery guy returns before 6PM, you can pick it up tomorrow itself. Otherwise, you would have to wait until Saturday to pick up the package.

Dammit...I did get that 14-21 day email

I got that email too, but then it went off back order 30 minutes later and it's shipped today.

I think unless there was a delay with your order (CC issue or T&C issue) and you ordered by 12:00 Noon EDT then you have a very good chance of getting it tomorrow unless they really ran low on a specific model (White 16GB or whatever).

Keep in mind that with the 4S my CC approval fell off, and I wasn't charged for 2-3 weeks after I had the phone.

This happens every year. Also, the CSR's know less than the FedEx guys, so if you want a status update try FedEx or UPS. ;)

Wow...wish I knew about this in-store BS before. That really sucks.

Is there a chance that we just don't have the same backorder updates as everyone else. The way I see it maybe - all of our phones could be assigned at the store, OR, they are currently all together in one big box. Obviously AT&T doesn't get a broken down box for each individual pre-ordered iPhone, right?

I wish someone here knew the process for that. Something tells me we're on a different story line, but something also tells me we're not getting our phones tomorrow either way.

I received an official shipped email from ATT Premier. However, UPS still shows label printed today with next day air saver delivery. No date for delivery, no movement. Same as yesterday.

That's a little disconcerting but not unusual:

With my experiences with UPS and my luck, the next update will be when the guy rings the doorbell. My packages often seem to get tracked incorrectly.

at&t is telling everyone the 4-15th time frame. From what I've seen in previous posts as well as my personal experience, if you did not receive an email that says the 4-15th date in writing, it may not be the case. They told me mid october and a few hours later my phone is on an airplane coming to florida.

I no longer show backordered under order status. I still show "In Progress" but have a UPS tracking notification. Click on it and I find nothing. I figure it's probably coming tomorrow, but still frustrated by the lack of effective communication on ATT's part.

And just for fun, my husband and I ordered at the same time last Friday. He ordered a 64 white, I ordered a 32 white. He's had a tracking number since yesterday. His is showing FedEx, mine is showing UPS.

Same situation here....I just want to know what continent my phone is on! LOL

So looks like most (if not all) people that pre-ordered at an AT&T retail store, no matter how early, still do not have their phone shipped. Including myself. For me, I had mine done at 9AM CST and I received the order confirmation email at 10AM CST.

Has anyone called/chatted AT&T regarding the shipping status of pre-orders placed at an AT&T retail store and can share what they heard?

I ordered mine 9AM EST retail store and got shipped with tracking number and its in Texas right now

Received my shipment notification email with FedEx tracking number around 1:00am PST this morning. Tracking number is live and I will have my phone tomorrow. Here's a recap:

  • Friday, 9/14: Ordered 64GB black iPhone from Premier Store at 5:00am PST
  • Immediately received confirmation email stating I would receive the phone "as soon as" the 21st
  • Saturday, 9/15: Credit card showed full amount of phone as pending charge
  • AT&T Order Status page incorrectly listed my order date as 9/15. Backorder listed as '1'
  • Tuesday, 9/18: Received a second confirmation email stating I would stll receive the device "as soon as" the 21st
  • Wednesday, 9/19: Backorder status removed around 1pm PST
  • Wednesday, 9/19: Marked as "Shipped" around 5:00pm PST
  • Thursday, 9/20: Received shipment confirmation email from Premier around 1:00am PST with tracking number

You guys feel bad? I work at AT&T, ordered mine at 6:30am EST / 3:30am PST and mine is back-ordered (or the e-Commerce guys can't find it). I really don't understand how this company works anymore. PreOrder/BackOrder are the same thing on the ATT.com/e-Commerce site so the only resolution they can over me is "it might be shipped last minute since things are done FIFO" (you know, because I don't already know that working for AT&T?).

Oy vey miz. I'm going to buy my next iPhone from Apple this has been an experience with my OWN company I do not wish to duplicate.

For yucks...

My order number starts in 161201xxxxxx and I am backordered (maybe?)

I dont understand why everyone's order numbers begin with a number and mine does not... My order number is EXTPB8895XXXXXX

Why is mine different? I ordered over the phone (activations dept) business care/premier. Still on backorder status since 9/14 @ 10:45am EST.
