So this is kinda fun to read! I ordered at 6:35 9/14 64gb black. Gave my info, got my confirmation, and was happy it was easy to do. Get bombed with emails on Saturday 9/15 stating a hold up. Call Sunday to find out whats up and get put on an insane hold to find out their systems are down. Can't get thru Sunday. Call 9am Monday to correct whatever "issue", supposedly ATT system didn't like my unlimited 4g grandfathered in. Premier site says ordered the 14th, but status site says 17th and of course everything is backordered. I'd be perfectly fine if it was my fault, which partly it is since I should have known it wasn't that easy! Thought I'd share my frustration. I plan on effectively making sure that I am given some type of credit for this fiasco. It should not be this difficult to order a damn phone! Congrats to all that have stupid shipping confirmations and tracking numbers. Hope you catch a cramp in your fingers from updating social media sites as to your new found awesomeness in the form of an iPhone 5!
 
Update:

-Just got a text from AT&T telling me that my package shipped and gave me a link to track the status.
 
I am in the exact same boat. Ordered online at 6:50 AM EDT and the CSR said my terms and conditions was not accepted until 2 PM EDT on 9/14. She said this is not my fault and that the system messed up and didn't accept it right away when I placed my online order and that this is AT&T's systems fault but would not help me further or credit my account. Absurd.

how is this any way to run a business?? why did some peoples orders go "through on time" while some of us, who ordered EARLIER in the day, get "stuck" and not go through till the afternoon?

i am wondering if come tomorrow the phone will arrive and I'll feel stupid for stressing over all this. could ATT really suck this bad? that the phone is still on its way and i just dont have any of the tracking info. i dont know what to think
 
As told many many times here, calling into customer service really is a waste of time. They just do not know. This stuff is all happening so fast, and a once a year event, etc.... save yourself some trouble.

Yea, check the online every 3.4 minutes. Both at ATT.com and fedex and ups. But don't bother calling.

And don't bother trying to figure out WHAT TIME it will arrive. They have a truckload of packages, including real business stuff with time deadlines to handle. Like payroll checks, critical parts, etc.



Gotta go refresh my UPS and ATT pages again.
 
As soon as my contract is up, I'm unbundling and switching to Verizon.

Go browse their thread, it's not any better. Bottom line is, you need to go with who has best coverage for your area and your situation.
 
Thought I'd through my story in if it helps anyone

ordered 9/14 at ~ 6AM PST
Got 2 emails from premier, 9/14 and 9/18 both saying it could arrive as soon as 9/21, but no tracking or anything.
Tried calling, no help
tried chatting online with them, no help
Yesterday, 9/19, my status went to "shipped" on attwirless.com, but not on my premier status. It still says processing now I believe.
Got an email today, 9/20 @ 9AM PST with tracking info, will be shipped tomorrow
 
I dont understand why everyone's order numbers begin with a number and mine does not... My order number is EXTPB8895XXXXXX

Why is mine different? I ordered over the phone (activations dept) business care/premier. Still on backorder status since 9/14 @ 10:45am EST.

I was wondering the same thing...I think it's because we're premier customers and our orders didn't go through the normal at&t website.

My order number is X68251CCXXXXX (Yes, it actually starts with an "X", just doesn't end with 5 of them).
 
Someone said pre-orders that have numbers starting with 140- are people that ordered on the 14th (12:10am PST). That was me, however, my CC did not go through so I changed my card and got the order date on the 15th. Still shipment pending. Hope this pans out.

I'm in same situation as you are. What a mess! Next time onwards, I'm standing in a line outside apple store.

You guys feel bad? I work at AT&T, ordered mine at 6:30am EST / 3:30am PST and mine is back-ordered (or the e-Commerce guys can't find it). I really don't understand how this company works anymore. PreOrder/BackOrder are the same thing on the ATT.com/e-Commerce site so the only resolution they can over me is "it might be shipped last minute since things are done FIFO" (you know, because I don't already know that working for AT&T?).

Oy vey miz. I'm going to buy my next iPhone from Apple this has been an experience with my OWN company I do not wish to duplicate.

Outside in line is not my kinda scene! I HATE LINES!! Anticipation in the warmth of my house is way better than anticipation in the brisk NYC morning weather ::putting on my North Face gloves:: :D
