I placed 2 orders and they are both 1504 and mine still show back ordered. I'm starting to give up hope. ;(

I wouldn't lose too much hope. My understanding is they can process almost a 100,000 orders through these places a day. My understanding through from talking with my District guy from AT&T is that unless you've received an email saying it's backordered, then it's not and they're really just trying to get to you.
 
iphone 4S unlocked by AT&T

Off base, but kind of related.

Stats: I'm 11 months into my contract on this subsidized phone. Upgraded to 5 from another line.

I called AT&T this morning to ask about unlocking my 4S before my iphone 5 comes tomorrow. The tech guy said no problem. (I'm like... righttttt). He does some clickety clack, asks for me IMEI number. Tells me to back up and restore my phone through iTunes.

VOILA!

Label created but not scanned by a UPS person. It's perfectly normal.

And I had a package come and be delivered with a status like that. I couldn't track it for anything. UPS even couldn't find it, then while I was on the phone, UPS knocked on the door. Really... Then I had a package from Chicago routed to Portland Oregon. TWICE! First time they actually tried to deliver it to an address not very much like mine in Oregon. A one day delivery turned into 2 weeks! Me and UPS don't seem to be getting along...
 
Ridiculous I just called AT&T and they said I'm not shipping till Oct 4-20th. I ordered within that first hour too.

I asked how come others are getting them first who ordered after me. The lady said, "sir we got 2 million orders in that first hour." You'd think AT&T would have figured their system out like Apple has.

Remember PLEASE don't go by what these reps are saying. Only go by your online status page. They told me I wouldn't get it until mid October and its on a plane right now on its way.
 
I'll add to the 1406 backorder stories.

My wife and I got up and ordered our phones the 14th. Apple was down so we used AT&T. I placed her order first at 2:04am CST and mine 3 minutes later. They were both just upgrades from the 4 to the 5 32GB black, both unlimited data plans with no changes. Went super smoothly, got the confirmation emails right away and txt messages confirming later that day. There were 2 $318 holds on my card over the weekend which disappeared Monday.

So both order numbers start with 1406. Her order number is 373 lower than mine (since we ordered her's first).

Her phone has been back ordered, and still is, while I have a Fedex tracking# which is updating on fedex.

I chatted online with att yesterday. I was not expecting any actual helpful shipping information, I just wanted to make sure there were no holds, or any problems. They said everything was fine with the order.

It is pretty confusing that we have the same plans, ordered the same phones, used the same card, got order confirmations, and yet her phone, which was ordered first, is backorder while mine is en route. :confused:
 
So I have been reading this forum for the last 3 days hoping to see some good news about when I could see my iphone coming. I live in Las Vegas and placed my order was completed at 12:04am, 4 mins after the preorder even opened. It told me I could see my phone arrive on Sept 21st. Later that day got a confirmation and an email from my bank saying money was on hold for the amount. Next day later the hold disappears and have not heard anything since. I do have a text message from ATT saying congrats my order was processed. But no emails, no calls, no tracking, NOTHING!!

Called customer support today to find out if maybe they had better info. She told me I could see my iPhone in 14-21 days. I told her that is BS that I ordered it 4 mins after it even opened. Her response is sorry nothing we can really do but I probably would not see my phone until October. I told her I would like to cancel she says it said on the preorder that it could not be done. I said well it also said in the preorder I would see my phone on the 21st. So let me get this straight you are going to hold up the cannot cancel but not going to hold up to the phone arriving on the 21st?! She said we cannot cancel. I told her my credit card company would have something to say about that and that when I did cancel Verizon would be getting my business. To which she had no response other than I am sorry sir.

So glad I woke up nice and early to preorder online to find out I won't get it for nearly a month later!

I think (AND HOPE) that they probably will be shipping them out constantly in the next few weeks. I much prefer to think my phone is coming in 14 days and it just appear in 4. Rather than they tell me it will be here in 4 days and not show up for weeks after. Fingers crossed!!!
A question...is the 14-21 business days from the day we ordered? I would assume so, but then getting the e-mail yeterday...whatever.

They told me the 14-21 WORKDAYS would start counting tomorrow, the date of the release.
 
ATT definitely isn't doing on a first come first serve basis. People were saying that they will ship today and we'll get them tomorrow and other people were saying that they got their Iphone 4 or 4s delivered and the system still said backordered. I hope we all get our phones tomorrow but if not then all we can do is wait.

Glad I've been with AT&T for such a long time. Obviously customer loyalty goes a long way...
 
Got a shipment notification email about 1.5 hours ago even though I already had a valid tracking number.

I want to point out for a

SIXTH TIME IN THIS THREAD - BACKORDER MEANS ITS PREORDERED. IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN YOU ARE BACKORDERED. AT&T.COM DOES NOT HAVE A PREORDER COLUMN ON THEIR DATABASE BECAUSE THE IPHONE IS THE ONLY PHONE THEY DO THIS FOR SO THE BACKORDER COLUMN IS USED IN LIEU OF ONE. IF YOU ARE SEEING BACKORDER 1/0 IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL.
 
i dont think the order numbers are sequential at all. Maybe they go by geographic location, my order started out like 7075- or something like that, and has shipped and is in Indy right now, people who have numbers in the 19's or whatever, have not shipped. just my two cents though.
 
This is my first iPhone, and the first time I've suffered through the pre-order process. It stinks. And to think people go through this with each successive new iPhone? Christ in Heaven. I was so geeked/excited/delirious about getting this phone. Now, all I do is obsess and worry and fret as to WHEN I'll have it. Kinda ruins the excitement I had as a newbie iPhone fan. :(

This is my firest year ordering from AT&T and though I am getting my phone tomm. I will avoid it next year like the plague if possible!

I have always ordered form apple and their system is so on par with letting you know the status of your phone and when it will be delivered blah blah blah that I wish my order had went through this year with them again.

I ordered right away from apple via the app and got the "your iPhone is reserved" crap ... got my email at about an hour later and when I went to continue my order for me and the wife it was at 2-weeks so i stopped.

My only option was AT&T at that point and it seemed like I would still get it launch day with them so I did it ... it has been a ridiculous process thus far, their system is HORRIBLE at keeping you updated, their customer reps are clueless and give you no information at all and if they do its all wrong most of the time and you have NO clue whats happening really till a day or two before your expecting it.

I myself never wanted to order via AT&T but had no option ... hopefully in 2 years (ya I'm done with this X'S version of iPhones .. only going or the new design and not the speed boost revision anymore)I can get it from Apple again so I don't have to mess with this crap again.

I am happy to be getting my phone tomm. for sure .... but I will avoid AT&T and tell everyone to do the same just cause they don;t really know how to do this like apple does!

That's also a possibility I've considered. The numbers may just indicate which warehouse they're fulfilled by (much like reserve currency bears a alphanumeric series on them to denote reserve banks)
 
My card has yet to be charged or even pre-auth'd (my husband works at our bank and has been checking for me).*

Phone shipped yesterday from Ft. Worth. FedEx tracking shows it moved to Newark, and at 1:00 EDT it left Newark for the Philly burbs. No notification email from AT&T regarding ship status or tracking #.

Pre-auth appeared on my cc immediately after ordering, then it disappeared on Tuesday, and no actual charge has yet posted to my account.

Glad the phone will be here tomorrow, and I give credit to AT&T for managing that. But as many others have said, for being a communications company, AT&T's communication is a big fail.
 
i put in my order before midnight last friday and got an order confirmation at 159am central time (1159pm pacific) through ATT's regular website. i got the processed text and warehouse email at about 1130am that same day. i had a pending charge that disappeared over the weekend, and finally saw "shipped" with my order details online. this morning, i FINALLY got a tracking number, and the 64GB black iphone 5 is being shipped UPS. i still do not have the charge taken out of my bank account.

my mother's 32GB white iphone has said "pending shipment" and "backordered 1" for days now. i put in her order last week on a separate account, and she also received the order confirmation ("will be delivered on september 21...") at 203am central time (1203am pacific). she also got the processed text and warehouse email. she's disappointed to say the least.

Have you tried this link or tried to look at your order via the link in your confirmation email?

Are you a Business Customer or a regular Customer. If you don't have a business account, there may have been a new Terms and Conditions for that you had to OK in order for your order to be processed correctly.

All of the CSR's are now supposed to tell customers that they will receive the phone in 14-21 days, so I wouldn't put too much faith in what they tell you. The other reason they may not be able to cancel your order could be due to the fact it has already shipped.

Well I spoke with CS and she said I'm scheduled for shipping 10/4 to 10/15. So much for ordering early. She gave me a $20 creditand said she would follow up with the store manager where I ordered on Tuesday to see if they can't get my phones early.... I doubt it.

Interesting she did say that orders placed before 11AM are processed first.... told her they dropped the ball with me since I ordered 9/14 at 9:20am

Wow... I'm still backordered. Ordered at 2:15 AM CST and order number starting with 140

Also a 140, ordered at 3:15 AM EST. Still backordered.

Guess I better call at some point today to make sure there's not something wrong with the order. Only because it makes no sense whatsoever.
