My story is quite a bit different.

I ordered from an AT&T "Authorized Retailer" not knowing (at the time) the difference between it and a "regular" AT&T store (corporate owned). I had to pay $25 for a pre-order gift card and gave them my name on 9/13 for a pre-order list. Since them I have not gotten any correspondence. As a matter of fact I never even got a confirmation # and there is no information of my order on AT&T's website. I have absolutely no information to work with. The store does not even know what time they placed the iPhone5 pre-order, but they feel "very confident" I will get the phone tomorrow, based on a series of phone calls to them. I'm in CST so even if they opened at their usual 10AM that would have be past the "cutoff" time.

I know there are some that are fine with just going this route, but I would like to know information such as status updates, confirmation and tracking #'s. The only thing I can do is call the local store and ask how it is going, and they never seem to give and other answer than, "you should have it Friday". We'll see, but Never again, will I go this route!

I'd love to update tomorrow (or sooner) that they have more info, and I'm just a control freak who can't let it go...
 
Also a 140, ordered at 3:15 AM EST. Still backordered.

Guess I better call at some point today to make sure there's not something wrong with the order. Only because it makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't think that the order # matters. My order number begins with 1406, and I placed my order just after pre-sales began (at 12:10am PDT 9/14). My order is shipped, and I have a FedEx tracking number with delivery on 9/21.
 
AT&T warehouses pick, pack and ship until FedEx and UPS tell them to stop for the day. In some cases, the warehouse is run by UPS (go Logistics!). Please keep in mind, a package from AT&T to FedEx/UPS to you only really takes about 6 hours. So as long as they can get YOUR phone into a box, packed, and sent with enough time to make it to your local UPS facility by 5:35am (usually when UPS ends it's daily sort-out and sends trucks rolling) you have lead time

So if you're in NJ for example like I am and receiving a phone from the KY warehouse. It really only takes 2hrs of flight time plus maybe a half hour or so from Newark to the local sorting facility.

TL;DR - BREATHE....IN....BREATHE OUT....
 
The money that was being "held" was returned to my account in full. As far as my bank is concerned it is as if the transaction never existed.

After looking at my statements closely I see that they did return the money in full. I didn't notice it since there's no description and like you said it's like the transaction never happened.
 
Thursday was my day off so I didn't feel like driving all the way in just to be put into backorder so I did it online. My guess - the order numbers are sequential and are handled First In, First Out. From talking with my manager and our regional guy for AT&T they both claim pre-orders/backorders are shipped FIFO and are packed/shipped up till around 6pm CST. So it's very possible you and I are there somewhere, they just haven't gotten to us.

Remember, the AT&T warehouse where this mostly happens fulfills a few million preorders. Imagine how long it takes human beings to do this type of work by hand (even though conveyors make it slightly faster). I imagine it the same way I would waiting at the deli for cold cults. You and I are 16202xxxxxxxxxx of maybe 1900xxxxxxxxx so it will take some time for them to get to us.

Kind of losing hope, stuck in backorder hell..... fingers crossed. :mad:
 
1612 order number here from 6:16 AM CDT. Still listed as back-ordered for 1x32 GB WHT and 1x32 GB BLK (non-premier).

I chatted with a representative today for the third time. The first one 3 days ago told me a supervisor would call me back...never happened. The second one yesterday told me that as long as I ordered by 11:30 AM, I would get the phone tomorrow and that my order status would update on the website yesterday...never happened. The third one today told me it would ship in October and that they were processing in FIFO. when I told her that this was simply not true based on the 190+ pages of forum reports, I was told that it didn't matter because this was not an official company website.

Finally, I asked again to speak to a supervisor and was actually connected to one. After explaining that I could live without my phone tomorrow but did not want to be affiliated with a company for another two years who did not value its customers and who has lied to me on at least three occasions now, she processed me a statement credit for $150 dollars.

That's all I wanted. Some accountability for the misinformation. I'm happy now (well, I'll be happier when I get the damned phone...)

Im also in the 1612 order group and in backorder. Wow, well that's nice that you got that. They're receiving enough money from all of this. The least they could do is waive upgrade fees haha. While no it's not all of AT&T's fault, they still have made some big mistakes, mostly by CSR.

i dont think the order numbers are sequential at all. Maybe they go by geographic location, my order started out like 7075- or something like that, and has shipped and is in Indy right now, people who have numbers in the 19's or whatever, have not shipped. just my two cents though.

I'm hoping you're right. My first four digits are 1910. Hmmm...could I be tenth in line in region 19 to be processed? :p
 
I want to point out for a

SIXTH TIME IN THIS THREAD - BACKORDER MEANS ITS PREORDERED. IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN YOU ARE BACKORDERED. AT&T.COM DOES NOT HAVE A PREORDER COLUMN ON THEIR DATABASE BECAUSE THE IPHONE IS THE ONLY PHONE THEY DO THIS FOR SO THE BACKORDER COLUMN IS USED IN LIEU OF ONE. IF YOU ARE SEEING BACKORDER 1/0 IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL.


I'm pretty sure that was more than the 6th time.

I have a 1612 order and a tracking number for delivery tomorrow. I'm not so sure the order number has anything to do with it, but who knows at this point. I'm biting my tongue until I have my phone in hand.
 
Tracking info is up!! My 16gb Black will be here tomorrow by 3pm.

I ordered at 8:39am EST online, and my order # starts with 1010.

I feel bad for all you guys who got shafted by AT&T. I would def call them and raise hell.

You ordered the same phone as I did about 20 mins after me. Mine is nowhere to be seen. I don't get it.
 
Use this to track your package. The one by default sent by AT&T in the confirmation email, for some reason, isn't as detailed.

I ordered at 2:56 am EST as the page was going live. FedEx says I should get it by 3 pm tomorrow.

Thank you for the link! I've been looking for it all over. It's much more detailed than the one they give us...
 
I ordered on the 14th a few hours after launch. My order status has said "processing" all week.

When I ordered t said it will arrive on 9/21. The email I got shortly after said arrive on 9/21.

Should it still be "processing"?
 
I'm a little worried, I'm still in backorder, but I haven't gotten any progress at all since day one. I don't even have an email telling me it will ship in october. The only email I got stated it will arrive the 21st, but we all know that we can't take their word for that. hmmm. Anyone else just not have any info at all? Also im in the 1612 order group.

heres a better question. anyone in the '1406' group have any luck getting shipping confirmation? im curious if its possible our phones are stuck somewhere waiting to be scanned or something? idk... i realize i'm grasping at straws here. i've lost almost all hope
