Just spoke to an AT&T REP on the phone

If you placed your order online OR in store before 9AM CENTRAL TIME (that means 12PM EASTERN TIME) your iPhone will SHIP on the 21st. If your order was placed AFTER these times, your iPhone will SHIP on the 25th, and will take 14-21 business days.

Many people who ordered their phones BEFORE 9AM CT AND 12PM EST got an email saying 14-21 business days. That is because AT&T is using these times very loosely.

Now, the question is: Are they REALLY shipping on the 21st? Or are they arriving. Who knows

IF THE AUTO-MATED SYSTEM TELLS YOU THAT YOUR IPHONE 5 ORDER IS ON BACKORDER, THEY ARE ONLY SAYING THAT BECAUSE NONE OF THE PHONES HAVE BEEN SHIPPED OUT YET. DO NOT THINK OF IT AS A REAL BACKORDER

I hope so!! Cause i was told the opposite by AT&T. So here is hoping you are correct!!

I waited on hold for an hour yesterday trying to get a rep (because the order page pushed me into a data plan that isn't what I want) and I don't see live chat being available right now for order issues at all, so I'm impressed that so many people are talking to agents!

Final information

Gabrielle at AT&T: Orders placed before 9am Pacific on 9/14/12 will ship by 9/21/12. Orders placed after this time will ship in 14-21 business days.

9am Pacific Time = 12PM Eastern Time

Erica: I show that it is in the processing stage and will be shipped out on or around the 21st of September when the phone is actual released.

Erica: Once it is assigned a tracking number it will be emailed to you so that you can track the device from the warehouse to you.

me: oh so everyone who pre ordered online will not receive their phone on launch day?

me: even if they ordered within the first hour?

Erica: We have been informed that they will be shipped out on the 21st. They could very well be sent out a little sooner. However, no one will get the phone prior to the 21st of September.

Erica: Your device has been ordered during a special pre-order event. Pre-ordered devices are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. We will notify you by e-mail when your device has shipped from our warehouse.

I placed my order at 12:50am pacific time.

Just finished talking to a rep (online) and I still don't fully understand what's going on. It seems like she said two different things. Here is the relevant part of the transcript:

Lynn Potts: iPhone orders require the customer receive and complete the T&C e-mail before the device ships.

Lynn Potts: Once the order is complete, the customer receives an order confirmation e-mail and a separate shipping confirmation e-mail that includes the shipping tracking number.

Lynn Potts: Devices ship on a first-come/first-served basis. The actual date of delivery depends on the order date, when the customer accepted the pre-shipment T&Cs, and available inventory.

Lynn Potts: that will reflect your order information on next email confirming shipment.

Me: But I never received the T&C email. Only the order confirmation.

Lynn Potts: You will, it might take up to 48 hours to get that one after order confirmation. Your order is placed in a que, if you accept email terms and conditions this places you on shipment list.

Lynn Potts: if someone waits to accept terms then they will have to wait to get device shipped.

Me: OK, I think I follow. So, my order is queued up, but once I accept the T&C I'm placed on the shipment list. Do I move back in the queue if I haven't gotten the email yet? Or is that only if the email is sent but the person hasn't responded?

Lynn Potts: You will be placed in shipment que once you accept terms even if someone else ordered first if they have not accepted then they are shipped after your order.

Me: Right. But if they ordered after me, but get the T&C email before I do and accept it, does that mean they are shipped before me?

Lynn Potts: Yes. first to accept terms and conditions is sent device first.

Lynn Potts: However, if you placed order after you there is already a 14 - 21 day wait for shipment

Lynn Potts: so you have a better chance at getting shipment on 21 sent to you.

Now you all have me curious. Where are you finding a live chat for order status? I can't even get a live chat about changing a data plan at this time.

NICE! When did yours switch to Pending shipment and give you your tracking number? I ordered mine 6:45a on 9/45 - my premier looks just like yours, but my ATT didn't switch over.

Wait what?

When i check the link through premier, it says "preordering processing"
but
when i check it though this link https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/
it says "pending shipment."

Could other people please use that link and tell me what it says? Does everyone have pending shipment?

I have not received the terms and conditions to agree to the new contract. I know you can call a toll free number and do it that way. Does anyone have that toll free T&C number to call?

Just spoke with an online rep @ AT&T.

I ordered the 16gb/black at 4:45 CST from my current phone (3GS) using the regular/non-premium website, received the congratulatory email about 5min later, with no expected ship/delivery date. Several hours later my credit card showed a $214 charge and I received a text message:

"Congratulation! Your preorder has been processed. You will be notified when your order has shipped"

My order/shipment status online says: Processing

Here's what the ATT rep had to say about expected delivery date:

"I show that the ship date for your order is actually on 9/20/12. You are one of the lucky ones who will be getting your order first!"

She also said not to worry about what's showing up online as that system is not updated as frequently as it should be.

Why

Why are you people calling and asking stupid questions to these reps. your phone will get there when they get there. If you ordered before they sold out initially you will get yours on the 21st (release day) like every other apple pre order process. It's a phone people.

That's ridiculous, so whoever got TC email first, ended up get the phone first. I saw lots of people ordered phone midnight but have not gotten any second email, but some order after already got the TC email

According to AT&T's website I'm not able to upgrade until August 2013. So I called AT&T asking what my early termination fee would be. The woman I spoke to told me it was $245 and then asked why I was thinking of terminating. I told her it was because I was really interested in the new iPhone. She then asked if I would be willing to stay with AT&T if they waved the fee. I said I would but I wanted to check out the phone in a store so I could decide which color I want. She said I could do that and then gave me the phone number of her manager and told me to call back, ask for her and she would take care of the transaction.

I've never done this before so I'm curious if she's giving me the straight dope or if I'm getting misinformation? Does AT&T typically waive a termination fee if you stay with them?

Anyone know what the T&C phone number is? I know you can dial a toll free number to accept the conditions. I may try that if someone has the number to see if it speeds up my order.

I don't think 'Pending Shipment' means the order is complete, as its not in the order status column, its in the tracking number column. Hence pending shipment means that you'll get a tracking number once the shipment has completed, ie: isn't pending anymore.

I ordered on 9/14 at 9:14 AM PDT. Looks like this was right around when shipping dates were starting to slip. I always saw 9/21 though, and it my order status is processing. Black 32GB also.

nervous

i woke up at 330am ET on 9/14 and got my order through successfully at ATT. but just now i got an email saying:

"your ATT order has not been processed because we were unable to verify the availability of funds with the card you provided".
"please review and/or provide your payment information and resubmit your order"

obviously the "resubmit your order" part has me concerned. though further down in the email it says:

"if we don't hear from you by september 22 with updated payment information, your order will be automatically cancelled"... indicating that it is still an active order.

so i went to the site and realized i typed in my credit card expiration date wrong (i mean come on, i was half asleep at 330am trying to get this order placed). i updated the exp date and got another email saying my order has now been processed, with the original order# i got from friday morning.

now i guess it is just a waiting game to see if they honor my original request time and still deliver on the 21st, or if i royally screwed myself and it won't count until today meaning i'll have to wait several weeks. stupid me for being so sleepy at 330am! why in the frack didn't they just check the credit card info at time of order to make sure it is valid (like any normal site would do)! and i know they don't charge the card until it ships, but you can absolutely run an authorization to make sure a card is valid without actually charging it.

i guess i'll keep checking back on this thread. hopefully people will start posting once ATT starts giving out tracking numbers. and hopefully i'll still be one of them...

Do you think some people have "backordered" or do you think that everyone has pending shipment.
