It's not that they ran out of phones that creates the anger. More to the point, it's their lack of forthcoming when honest questions warranted honest answers. Stop saying you're 'not trying to be mean' when it's painfully evident by your less than subtle dig that you are. People do have a right to be presented with clear, concise information so as to make choices that are right for them. Many would have opted to wait it out at an Apple Store, for example, or simply not order the new phone at all at this time. AT&T LIED about what they could deliver when they knew they couldn't.

Wholeheartedly agree. The lies need to stop. They have the information right there in the database. This "estimated ship date" extension crap should be listed on the order status page. If they know it...it should be on that page, instead of stringing me along for a week via phone.

Ordered Friday morning at 0900, got this in a email this morning...

"We wanted to confirm that your order is reserved and will ship in approximately 14 ? 21 business days."

Still on back order, so I guess we'll see but I'm thinking effed......

See theres another one. Check your order status online and check your order date. I bet you got pushed back like 5 days cause their order system blows the big one.

My nightmare

I work for AT&T at a retail store. I placed my order online because it was my day off and how else would I? So I placed it at 6:40am EST and received an email saying it was processed and then confirmed for 9/21 delivery.

Since then the phones been called everything from "backordered" to "paired with an S/N for shipment". It's not 7:04pm EST as I write this and extremely unlikely I will get my phone tomorrow as promised. AT&T is an absolute joke and if I didn't need this job I'd quit. I feel awful telling people in our store "I have no idea where your order is because our web team was too lazy to create an order column for preorders so it may or may not be backordered".

A little positivity...

I know some people are getting screwed and this truly sucks and I feel for you... but I had an absolutely great experience. I ordered my iPhone at about 7:00am and it was processed that day. It never was back ordered and it shipped Wednesday. I got a tracking number today and it will be here tomorrow by 3PM. I have absolutely no complaints and quite frankly it couldn't have been a better experience.

Well good news is good news and I'll take it after all the B.S. shared here. Congrats and do enjoy!:D

Hey guys,

On track to get my phone tomorrow by 3 PM! Just left Memphis, hopefully en route to somewhere near DC tonight!

Just a quick question - I am sure I'm getting my phone, but the charge on my card disappeared this morning. When will they charge me/finally take it out of my account? Did this happen to anyone else who got confirmed shipping and tracking info? Thanks!

Ordered 3 x 32gb black iphone 5's about 10am PST the day of pre-order, i didnt get an order confirmation until tuesday and that was for just 1 phone, i got another confirmation on wednesday for the other 2...both required them to call me to confirm.

Anything new from any 1019 orders? I know I saw the one in Phoenix that went through but any others?

huh?

Anyone else have an iPad micro-sim???

This happens every year. Same exact posts talking about the same exact issues. Yet people come back to order more phones from AT&T. These systems were not designed for the obsessive compulsive.

I'm only mad at AT&T cause their ordering system is absolutely a piece of trash built in HTML most likely. I ordered my phone on Friday 9/14, just to have my order status change to 9/17 2 days later. It made no sense. Terms and conditions accepted on 9/14, account charged, 9/14, YET their system shows my order 9/17, explain that. That's why I'm mad. I knew I wouldn't be getting a phone tomorrow regardless because I did order late on Friday. But I didn't ORDER ON ****ING MONDAY AT&T.

Did you port any numbers? I ask because I have a similar situation to yours and I have a feeling my order date shows 9/17 because of some sort of delay with porting numbers. I ordered at 9:44 am pst on 9/14 but my order shows 9/17.

Seriously considering just taking the phone (if it ever gets here) and paying the ETF fee, then going over to Straight Talk for $45/mo. Still using the same towers. Shouldn't be too hard to rig my own nano sim together.
Unfortunately, the length of the contact area on the StraightTalk/Net10 SIM's is larger that the entire length of a nano SIM. This means you'd have to trim off part of the contact area on a StraightTalk/Net10 SIM (not just the plastic area) which might ruin the SIM entirely. Even if the SIM wasn't ruined, you'd risk having the edges of the trimmed area come into contact with the metal SIM tray of the iPhone 5.

Undoubtedly someone will try it through.

SIM's from many of the other MVNO's don't suffer from this problem... the contact areas are smaller than the overall size of the nano SIM.
