Yep, you're right. It was probably be wise to wait awhile. I bought the first generation Apple Air and it was a nightmare. It was in the shop more than I used it. Apple finally replaced it and gave me a new one three days before my warranty expired.
? You can ship standard overnight up until 9 pm at some locations. The limiting factor is how late UPS/FedEx is there and surely they have an arrangement for this. Most overnight cargo moves over the night prior...so who knows what they have worked out to get the second wave around.
I'm holding out hope. At least for those of us at backorder 0.
I guess even if we don't get tomorrow, the 0 means we'd get Monday/Tuesday as shipping is the limiting factor not a lack of phones. So at least it won't be October (which I think is a vast overestimate for most people anyhow).
I preordered the black 32gb one on at&t from my local Best Buy and just talked to them. Not looking like ill get my iPhone tomorrow. The guy said they barely got any.
What pisses me off is I was the 1st person in line to preorder. This means my Best Buy didn't get even 1 black 32gb at&t iPhone 5.
Sucks for all those people camping out that are gonna find nothing available in the morning. I can't believe this!

I'm in Philly too. Went by the AT&T store where I bought my iPhone 3G and nobody is in line. Queue usually starts up at 5am day of. Which Apple Store did you go to?
Also, don't expect to walk into an Apple Store tomorrow for accessories. I got turned away so many times when the iPhone 4 came out

i don't think so. you can scratch an anodized metal but it's hard to take off the paint because the black paint becomes part of the metal. unlike paint, it covers the metal. this one it becomes like the skin of the metal.
as long as she made it through security should be fine, hope she doesnt drink to much on th flight lol

see how they lied about the Facetime feature? Also, upgrade fee was NOT waived, I was promised and guaranteed that ALL iphones ordered on the 14th would arrive on the 21st. Contacting them only gets apologies and more lies.

To the people that cancelled were you guys able to have your upgrade eligibility reinstated immediately over the phone or do they make you wait? I'm thinking about cancelling and toughing it out in line tomorrow morning. Ordered at 12:45 AM PST and screwed by AT&T (at least that is what it looks like as of right now). ;(

i'm gonna install invisible shield on it right away. and wait for element case's design.
Do not make the mistake of cancelling your order just now. AT&T doesn't reinstate your upgrade date so easily even though if you cancel and/or it's not your fault. Make a call to the customer care first and then consult them before. If they agree, ask them to email you that in writing as a proof that your eligibility will be reinstated or they will credit you for no commitment pricing. If either of this happens, only in that case cancel your order. Or else, you would not only would miss getting the phone, you would have to pay the full price for it but still be locked to the 2 year upgrade limit!

I called yesterday asking if I could cancel my order and pick one up on launch morning. They said, since I had accepted terms and conditions, I won't be able to cancel and just have to wait it out for second shipment (since I ordered at a later time on the 14th). Note, I am a premier member. So I checked my order status like 3 hours later, and my backorder backed out to 0. Now I'm in progress and pending shipment with an order number 9110*******. I hope I have a chance of getting the phone tomorrow, But I truly feel bad for those who actually preordered early in the AM and won't be getting it.
This order actually went to "shipped" status and got a UPS tracking before my two orders that I placed on Friday 9/14 morning!!
I got the tracking mid day yesterday online and an "shipped" email a few hours later. MyUPS actually detected the inbound package and alerted me before AT&T notified me!
Again, this is a phone that I ordered via the telephone sales dept on SATURDAY 9/15!!! I was fully expecting THIS to be delayed at least 15-21 days as the salesperson had stated at the time of the order...
My other two phones were online orders placed through the Premier site.
No Longer Back Ordered
At 8:06 tonight I posted that my 64GB white was in still in Back Order, despite getting the confirmation emails on 9/14 for 9/21 delivery. But now, as of 9:06 (during my hourly torture session checking my order status) it's no longer in back order. Still just pending, no shipping info or anything but hey, maybe that's a good sign that things are still moving along at AT&T?? Fingers crossed.

I can't even pick up an otter box without preordering one. It may be a while for a case. I had to be on a waiting list just to get a otterbox defender for my iPhone 4 when it came out. My general rule is I will only pull out the iPhone 5 if I'm standing over carpet.
