1407 & Other Mysteries
Long story short, my order number starts with 1407. Unlike many other 1407s, however, my order wasn't completed/processed until 12:20 PM CST on the 14th and it's still showing as backordered. Frankly, I'm not expecting to receive my phone tomorrow (Black, 32GB, ordered through standard AT&T page) but am more than a little curious as to how these order numbers were generated. It seems as though there's some method to the madness but, like, for the life of me I can't determine what it is.
What I've found to be most frustrating in this process is the inability to cancel our pre-orders. When I went to AT&T page on Friday morning, at around 11:00 CST, I was shown a message saying I would have a phone delivered on the 21st. Just as I was about to finalize my order, I was called away from my desk at work. When I returned, I hit "submit" and was kicked back to the start, which had been updated to say delivery in 14-21 days. Foolishly, I clicked "submit" at the end of the process before learning that the Radio Shack around the corner from my apartment would have stock AND had yet to receive any pre-orders. When I went it, I was told I wasn't eligible for an upgrade until 2014, and the customer service rep with whom I spoke said it was not possible to cancel a pre-order and, in the process, revert my upgrade eligibility, once the terms and conditions box in the online form was checked and submitted.
So, yeah, 1407....hmmmmmm
