Not so fast!

Okay: It's kinda clear many of us will NOT be receiving our phones today. I feel burned, but what can I/we do, right? Right. So here's the billion dollar question: why are people talking about getting orders on 10/5 instead? When AT&T updated it's site to reflect 'receipt in 14-21 days', didn't that mean two weeks from 9/14/12? Because getting the phone by 9/28 sounds a helluva lot nicer than 10/5 for cryin' out loud! (By the way, I'm still listening intently for each truck that comes by, hoping I'll be surprised and get my phone today...the very phone AT&T still shows as backordered.) :rolleyes:
 
Oh AT&T, I hate you

So I decided to just drive to the AT&T store around 9 a.m. MT. I pull right up in front — no lines at all. There's an employee outside, I roll down the window and ask if they have any stock. They do — a 16GB black — what i preordered.

I tell him I've preordered and he tells me that they can't do anything about it.

I wouldn't be as mad — except, (I'm in the 1406 order number group) I haven't heard anything from AT&T outside of the initial your order is processing email.

My buddy who ordered around noon (mountain time) received notification that his iPhone is shipping next Wednesday. I preordered at like 3 a.m. MT.
 
I guess it's still a little too early to tell, as iPhone shipments are just starting to arrive at people's homes, but has there been anybody who has received the iPhone 5 they ordered but never saw AT&T update their account from Pending Shipment to Shipped? I'm on my last bit of hope here - I've heard that in previous years, many didn't see Shipment changes in their account until much later after it was actually shipped. I'm one of those whose account hasn't shifted from Pending, although my order went through hours before many of those who 'are' confirmed to be getting shipments today.

Anybody? Anybody? :confused:

I'm on the same boat too and i'm not giving up but I just called CSR for them to credit my account and they did but gave me the oh 14-21 days is not a long time to wait... Really. Took my credit towards my account and banged the phone.
 
1406...

So I really wonder what it was about all the 1406 numbers that is keeping them from being sent out on time. Ordered mine at 3:06 est as soon as the site opened. Is there any correlation what size iphone ordered? mine was white 64gb
 
If u are back ordered.. go to att store. just got mine

So i was one of the "unlucky" who preordered their iphone in the first couple minutes at the att website.

Even today, the day they guaranteed my delivery, my order was still on back order 1 and ending shipment.

I called several att stores around me (Houston) until i found one with 2 32gb black iphones left.

I got a really nice lady , and I explained my situation to her, telling her how the system screw up and my iphone had not shipped yet. I told her i would even pay the full price and they can reinburse the difference when the other "preordered iphone arrived" since updating your upgrade eligibility takes 24 hours usually.

However she was able to speak with somone over the phone and cancel my existing preorder and gave me one of the two iphones they had left.


Take your chances! Call a store and go if they have one available.

BTW someone over the phone had told me that there was no way they could cancel it. But I was like the heck with it, im going in person, and it worked.
 
Friend of mine walked into AT&T and picked it up with a short line... guess that was the way to go.. oh well
 
i'm resigned to waiting till 10/4 to 10/15 as well. but at least by then most apps should be updated to run on the new 4" screen....

not to mention that we'll also have time to pick out a decent case and/or other accessories (if you haven't done so already...)

Same thing happened to me at 9:30 EST.
So I texted my rep and he said that I couldn't get one since I already had a preorder. He texted me again at 10:30am saying they had just sold out.
Some how I don't believe him. This is a major company store in the heart of Central Florida.

They told me that they start counting the business days on the day of release, in other words, today. But of course I've been told everything under the frigging sun so I take it with a grain of salt.

I'm sure that pisses people off. It's like the one's who want it did the right thing pre-ordered when they were supposed to. You get screwed.

But Joe Schmoe goes in to a store, not crowded, and picks one up. Could really careless. Might've contemplated about NOT getting one and waiting for the 5s or something. Doesn't have the same entuhsiasm as you about the phone. And ends up with it with no anticipation, grief, anxiety, etc.

It's kind of ironic.

I'm 1406 and I ordered 16Gb black.
 
Mine still is the same. Just went down to Apple Store and bought one. Will return the one that gets shipped, if that ever happens.

Anyone in the 1612 group who was still on backorder with me til last night get any updates? None for em :(

My iPhone 5 Order Progress

I pre-ordered my white 16gb iPhone on 9/14 at 9am EST at an AT&T retail store. The customer service rep told me that I would probably get my phone in about 14 days. When I got my confirmation email a little while later it said "14-21 days" so that pretty much fit with what he said. I was sent a shipping confirmation via email at 11:56pm yesterday (9/20). About 3am (I'm a bit of an insomniac) I checked the FedEX site and my tracking number was live. It showed a delivery date of 9/21 by 3pm. However when I got up at 8am, my tracking information had changed to a delivery date of 9/24 by 3pm.

So all in all, I am going to have my phone well before the customer service rep at the AT&T store thought I would. But I did have my hopes up there for a minute that I'd have it today :)

I have seen some people saying that their deliveries were scheduled for a Saturday. However, my service type is shown as standard overnight but it shows a ship date of 9/21 and the delivery date isn't set until 9/24. So I'm not sure what's up with that.
 
I'm exactly where you are - story is exaclty the same. ordered at about the same time , black 64 gb and 1504xxxxx. nothing. no updates. I'm wondering if it's something to do with the 64 gb version. maybe they didn't get a lot.

the lack of the first come first serve is the only part that bothers me too.

1504 as well but Black 16gb for me.

YES! I'm glad someone else realized this!

On your order confirmation email that came on 9/14, it says 14-21 days.

I asked an AT&T rep and they said that's from THAT DAY.

So, it'll be anywhere from 9/28-10/5.

Good news for sure.

Any update on the guy who tried canceling his pre order? I want to cancel mine.

I ordered just as you described above. However, my status finally changed last night but only to 0 back-order. Still no carrier/shipment info. I'm hoping I fair the same as you and get it Monday as well (doubtful for today).

ive seen a few 1406's say they have their shipping info, but it seems like the overwhelming majority of us are stuck on backorder. I ordered around 9:15am which I guess could be "late" but I've seen some 1406's around here who ordered at 3:00am and are still back ordered

I think the pre-order cancel comes down to has it been allocated for shipment/already shipped:

- If yes, then you can't cancel.
- If no, free to do so with help of rep.

That's my take based upon this thread.

just cancelled my pre-order. going to cancel my account. and switch. this is pathetic.

2 CSR i talked to were rude. eff ATT.
