So, I decided to go ahead and call AT&T and see if they could provide me for a reason as to why my iPhone 5 is not shipping when others who ordered after me have had theirs ship. Yes, I realize the CSRs tend to have no idea what they're talking about or may just lie to calm you down, but I figured, what the hell.
The CSR I spoke to claims that although I ordered the iPhone 5 (Black 32 GB, btw) just before 7 AM EST, the "credit bureau" did not allow for the transaction to take place, so AT&T had to place the order on hold until it could pass the check. She says that later in the day, it passed the check and due to the wait, I lost my place in the queue. Now, this story lines up with the order of events, in that though I got my confirmation e-mail right away, I did not get the text that my order had been processed until hours later, at 2:42 PM. Whether or not this story is BS, I can't say, but this hasn't happened to me before.
Thought I would add that to the pile of "reasons" that AT&T provides for those whose orders have not shipped out yet. Just like so many others, she says it won't ship until October now. I have a hard time believing
that, as many who were told that had it arrive today or have it arriving next week. Either way, I'm still frustrated.
Thrilled for all of those who've received theirs, though! I know what it feels like to hold a shiny new iPhone in your hand after anxiously waiting for it, and it feels pretty damn great. Hope to feel that way too soon!
