Wow...I've never seen so many pissed off people as are posting on AT&T's Facebook page today.

got my iPhone

so let me explain what just happened to me. I got fed up watching my phone sit in "back order" limbo so I called the Apple store down the street and was told they had plenty of iPhones in stock. Sales guy said they had just received more stock and had many available.

I called AT&T and asked them to cancel my order. They gave me the runaround - it "could not be canceled because it was in progress, and the phone would arrive around 10/14". I told them I was tired of being given excuses, I had pre-ordered very early and was given a 9/21 delivery confirmation. The order needed to be canceled. I knew other people had done it, and it needed to be canceled for me as well. After arguing with the CSR for a while he was able to cancel the order for me. Before I canceled I asked him repeatedly if my eligibility would go back to how it was BEFORE i pre-ordered. He swore it would. I must have asked him 3 or 4 times. repeatedly. I was tempted to ask him to send me an email, something in writing that assured me my eligibility would reset. He assured me I had nothing to worry about (i'm an idiot at this point for trusting anything ATT is telling me)

10 minutes later. Order canceled. Thank god. Off to Apple!

I pull up to the Apple store - SURPRISE!! My eligibility did not reset and I am no longer eligible for the iPhone 5 - in fact, I am not available for an upgrade until 2014! I must buy the phone at full price.

At this point, I am really ready to tell ATT to go to hell. I call them back and the CSR tells me I need to wait 72 hours for the eligibility to "reset" and even then they cannot guarantee it will reset for me.

I was so angry I told the CSR I was going to cancel my service after being a loyal customer for 10 years. She went to find me a "manager". Manager comes back, apologizes profusely for all my troubles and then tells me it will take 72 hours for the eligibility to reset and there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING he can do. He says it is their systems fault and he cannot override it.

I ripped into this man. I mean, I'm embarrassed to admit how angry I got with him. Worst part is, I'm a really nice guy and I hate treating people poorly - but I was a HUGE ****** to this poor manager. I let him have it.

I told him to cancel my service. He said they did not want to lose my business after 10 years. I said I did not care, I was done with ATT. I was standing in the Apple store and was going to switch to Verizon. Manager begs me to please give him 5 minutes. He puts me on hold.

2 minutes later he comes back - PROBLEM RESOLVED. Shocking!! My eligibility has MAGICALLY been reset. But I thought it was a system error and there was nothing he could do??? Well surprise surprise everything is magically fixed. I thank him (begrudgingly, since what I really want to do is tell him to go to hell).

I walk back into Apple, which by the way, had many iPhones in stock. They had cards in their hands that they were handing out to customers - each card represented an iphone in stock - and they had TONS of cards. I would guess over a hundred. No problems with inventory at all. 10 minutes later, walked out with my new iPhone 5.

you know what made me the angriest? After all the yelling, all the headaches, all the tension - the ATT manager on the phone tried to sell me a Uverse bundle before he hung up. I think I said something along the lines of "if you seriously try and sell me Uverse right now, I'm going to lose my **** on you"

So, here's my iPhone 5 preorder story with AT&T.

I ordered at 2AM CST and wasn't getting my phone for 14-21 more days.

So I called customer service, made them cancel my order and reverse my eligibility and then went into a store and got the black iPhone 5 16GB...I went ROUND AND ROUND WITH THEMMM!

But finally I have a phone!! You just have to be very persistent with them and you WILL get what you want!

After six thousand different people at AT&T I finally got someone at ATT.com who told me the truth.

"The fact Mr <name> is that your credit check wasn't done by us till 2pm EST so that's why your phone is backordered. I'm showing an effective ship date of Oct 4th for you now".

*sigh*

My boyfriend's dad let him know my phone has been delivered. FedEx tracking has not indicated it was, though. Oh well. Happy to know it's safe! Unfortunately, once I leave work, I have a 2.5 hour drive there.

TGIF!

I know its not going to make you feel any better but this is definitely not true either...

I ordered one on Saturday and it is on the delivery truck today...

Sorry.

Are you serious!!! I was told they are only preorder for the next 3 weeks. Guess I'm off to the mall tonight. Did they have the commuter series as well?

They had mainly Defender, but some Commuter. They also had Speck and some other brand I never heard of. The store by my work, didn't have any, but the store by my house did.

2.5 hours! Wow... That's dedication.

Got my iPhone 5. Set it up via the iOS setup screen and connected to my Wi-Fi network (instead of connecting to iTunes). Now my iPhone 5 works... however it says 'No Service' and my iPhone 4 is still receiving calls and texts.

While this is OK for now (I'm still backing up via iCloud) - how do I make the switch? In the past I've just turned on my new phone and the old one lost service automatically...

Any ideas before I call AT&T? :)

I got an 'activation' email.

I call it an MDR: mid distance relationship. :p

We visit one another every other weekend and I knew his parents would be home during the day to accept the delivery since we both work. Worked out well for me.

I know how that goes. My wife and I lived between 4 hours to halfway across the country for the first 2 years of our marriage because of having jobs in different cities. We saw each other once every two months.

Have a safe drive this afternoon!

This is my first time posting, but I've been following the thread from the beginning. The following is all of the details relevant to my pre-order:

- 09/14/2012 - Pre-ordered in store at 8:03 am CDT. I was waiting for the store to open at 8 with about 7 other people.

- 09/19/2012 - Order updated to "Shipped" without tracking number or carrier name. Backorder count was set to "0".

- 09/20/2012 - Noticed that I had a tracking number early in the morning (FedEx) that was apparently updated around 3:00 am CDT.

- 9/21/2012 - Currently waiting for my iPhone to be delivered. It is on the vehicle for delivery and has not yet been delivered as of this posting. (See attached picture)

ORDER NUMBER: I'm a 1361 if that helps anyone out.
