ATT iPhone 5 Pre-order thread

Just got mine. Hey guys, be careful, the delivery guy didn't knock on the door or ring the bell. The only reason I knew it was here is because I kept refreshing my tracking page like a mad man.

Anyway--White iphone, 32 gig, perfect condition. I'm leaving the screen cover and back cover on like a loser until my case comes and I buy a screen protector. I didn't notice a weight difference, but when I picked up my 4, it felt like a brick compared to this. Screen difference I noticed right away, it looks great.

I have but one problem, activation. How long does it take/what do I have to do?

I plugged it into itunes, my number showed up, it already recognized my name as Castle's Phone....I think I'm going to turn it off and turn it on and see what happens. As of right now I have wifi but no phone service.

But only if you order tomorrow morning between 1:03:14am and 1:03:16am, while doing a back flip, while listening to Van Halen, while rubbing a magic 8 ball (subject to not getting phone for no reason, because lalalalala!). :D

How can I sync my apps so that ALL of my apps/photos/music/etc go onto my i5?

I was able to cancel my preorder that I ordered online on 9/19. I walked into my local AT&T store outside Chicago and picked one up. They were still in stock . White 16 g Black 16 g & Black 64 g iPhone 5's
 
2:50 pm and the wife called to tell me Fedex just dropped my phone off. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. (though I suspect many will have to wait past the Fedex promised delivery time of 3pm)

Good luck to all of you that are trying to find a store with some in stock.

Here's my saga. It ends well! So might be useful for a few here.

  1. Ordered through premier (upgrade) before the 9/14 9 am Pacific cutoff and got confirmation e-mail with 9/21 expected delivery.
  2. Status showed back ordered and got an e-mail from ATT that delivery pushed 14-21 days
  3. Did the usual calling around with clueless CSRs and read every single post here :)
  4. Last night backorder went to 0 and status was "Pending Shipment"
  5. No Tracking number at all on order status all morning but UPS actually delivered at my door at noon.
  6. Tracking has been updated now (3 pm eastern) at my order status
So looks like there is still hope for folks who are at back-order 0 and Pending shipment status. The Tracking numbers are not updated in real-time. Good luck!
 
After 3 hours on the phone this morning, I went into the nearby store at noon, picked up a 32 gb white iphone 5 cancelled my order online, had to wait for a cancellation email, then the manager called a csr who unlocked my upgrade. Good riddens AT&T online ordering. Never again. There was no line. They had a few 32 whites left- just what i wanted.
I am still waiting on my daughter's order. Hope that eventually comes.
What a joke this process was.

Order Status as of 3pm 9/21: "In Progress" and all three are back-ordered

The same status for the over a week. I'm never pre-ordering the iPhone again. This is ridiculous, I could have had the phone in-store by now. AT&T you need to get your act together. My god, this is the 6th launch!
 
Have any of you also had issues with cellular service? I keep getting "No Service". When I connect to iTunes my phone number doesn't show up. Very odd, the box I got in the mail had my phone number labeled on it.

Do I just wait for it to spring into action? (I've rebooted and re-seated the SIM more times than I can count). Or do you think I have to walk into the AT&T store? I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Any tips? :confused:

Update: I just got this email saying my iPhone shipped (after it arrived). I may follow the below later, I don't want my voicemails deleted! (Is this true or does old voicemail carry over for iPhones?)

Update 2: My 5 recent voicemails carried over along with my custom greeting from my iPhone 4. But all older and previously deleted voicemails were lost.

Follow the steps to activate your iPhone;

1. Charge your iPhone if needed.
2. Check all voicemail messages on your existing device. Once your new iPhone has been activated, all voicemail messages and greetings on the former device will be lost. (Existing AT&T Customers Only).
3. Turn on your iPhone and follow the steps to activate it by using Wi-Fi or connecting it to your computer via the included USB cable. Your iPhone may prompt you to connect to iTunes. Install it for FREE at iTunes.com
4. Activate your device online at att.com/Activations or by calling 1-866-895-1099 from another phone.
5. Turn ON your iPhone and make a test call. If your call is not successful, wait one hour to allow the activation process to complete then try to make another call.

FYI - out of curiousity, called Apple store in Stamford, CT, and they have stock but wouldn't say which colors, sizes, or carriers, and said there was a line outside but that a specialist would let everyone in line know what's still avaiable.

Precisely my situation except I'm not Premiere and to my knowledge it hasn't delivered (at worn and wife wouldn't stay home for me :p )

- 9/21/2012 - Currently waiting for my iPhone to be delivered. It is on the vehicle for delivery and has not yet been delivered as of this posting. (See attached picture)

UPDATE: Just walked outside and waited for about 15 minutes because I had a feeling the FedEx truck was coming. She passed my apartment building so I casually walked over to the truck but she went into a building with one (non-iPhone) box and I asked her if she had delivered to my building when she walked out.

She said she was coming and said "Let me guess what you're waiting for." and allowed me to go to the truck and sign for it with my photo ID. The truck looked fairly empty with only a few boxes on the floor, but I think I was the last iPhone box in the truck.

Long story short, time to unbox this thing! Thank you FedEx!

Good luck to everyone else waiting. You'll get it!
 
Just thought I'd give you a little ear pod review since I haven't really seen them discussed. Now, for what it's worth, I plugged them into my ipad since I haven't put any songs on the new phone yet. Not that I think it makes a difference but who knows.

They fit amazingly well for me. I know everyone's ears are different, but wow. As soon as you put them in, I'm sure most of you will feel a significant difference.

To test the sound, I listened to a few Black Keys songs off El Camino, a few Foo Fighter songs off Wasting Light, and a few songs off Eminem's Recovery to see the difference in hip hop/rock.

The sound overall sounds fuller. Vocals and guitars on the rock songs sound kind of muted. I'm not sure if because all my previous headphones were lacking in bass/drums, but it's definitely not as prominent as I've heard on other headphones. I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing though. The songs sound fuller, the little pods shake in my head to the beat of the drums and basslines, the ones that really stick out to me were "Sister" and "Run Right Back" for the Black Keys and "Cinderella Man" for Eminem. They sound like you're listening to them live.

All in all, very pleased with how these things came out. More so the comfortable feel of them.

Hopefully you guys get your packages safe and sound and on time!

same happened to me, except i got my tracking info this morning. enjoy your phone!

I don't recall losing my voicemails when I've switched from 1st gen-->3GS-->4.

Maybe it's a new dealie?
 
So it sounds like the stores are easy. Lot of people walking in and getting phones according to these boards. So next time no one will pre-order thinking the stores will be the way to go and it'll be a cluster **** and people will complain.
 
Like someone said here, you wont notice the weight difference when you pick it up but when you pick up your old phone, oh boy! Feels you were using a brick or something up until now!
