Posting from my 5. Couple of things I really like:

- new earbuds are great. Much better low end sound and more comfortable.
- typing with the slightly wider screen is much easier.
- internal speakers much louder. Guess the price we paid was having new connector, but that doesn't bother me much. Connector much easier to plug in anyway.
- so great to be able to use the 5g band of my wireless router. Way faster sitting here at home. Combined with the faster LTE connection when going through cellular data, and faster processor makes for a really much faster experience. Very nice.

I don't understand anything anymore. I am so disillusioned by this. I ordered WELL before the 9am cutoff. There were NO problems with the order. Got confirmation emails, confirmation text, the whole thing. ZERO problems.

Backorder 1. CSR can not explain anything. There is no credit check problems as I have been a customer for 10 YEARS! I don't understand how they have essentially lost my phone. I don't understand how I order early for the right to get my phone on time and not only does it not arrive, but I will now not get it for up to a MONTH! Instead of ordering early, I could have sat on my butt, slept late that day and walked into the Apple Store here in NY and walked out with my new phone.

CSR gives me the runaround. No answers. In fact, the guy on the phone RIGHT NOW just told my he is certain my phone will be delievered today or tomorrow. I didn't have the fight in me to explain that the fedex guy for our route has already come and gone and doesn't deliver on Saturday.

I just don't see how a company can treat customers like this and stay in business. I know I'm no one special. I just want to be treated like everyone else.

I don't recall losing my voicemails when I've switched from 1st gen-->3GS-->4.

Maybe it's a new dealie?

I'm guessing the email is generic enough to cover phones that don't save voicemails or use visual voicemail. However I'm opening up PhoneView now to backup my voicemails just in case!

As I said I knew it would not be a popular statement but It is my opinion. It is only that – an opinion. Furthermore there is no question Obama will tell me what to do with my money. He is already spending my money and my children's and my grandchildrens and my great-grandchildrens etc. that are yet to be born. he is also forcing me to purchase insurance with my money whether I want it or not.

Not to make this a political thread as I'm a Republican through and through but The repubs of today are no better. They just like to hold on to that idea that they are the "conservative" ones. I just think telling someone how to spend their money without you knowing a thing about their situation smells a little ripe. I'm sure you've never made a frivolous fiscal decision.

I saw the fedex truck in my neighborhood twice, nothing for me. Then i recieve my phone from a rental truck with a guy in fedex shirt.

Have any of you also had issues with cellular service? I keep getting "No Service". When I connect to iTunes my phone number doesn't show up. Very odd, the box I got in the mail had my phone number labeled on it.

Do I just wait for it to spring into action? (I've rebooted and re-seated the SIM more times than I can count). Or do you think I have to walk into the AT&T store? I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Any tips?

Update: I just got this email saying my iPhone shipped (after it arrived). I may follow the below later, I don't want my voicemails deleted! (Is this true or does old voicemail carry over for iPhones?)

Follow the steps to activate your iPhone;

1. Charge your iPhone if needed.
2. Check all voicemail messages on your existing device. Once your new iPhone has been activated, all voicemail messages and greetings on the former device will be lost. (Existing AT&T Customers Only).
3. Turn on your iPhone and follow the steps to activate it by using Wi-Fi or connecting it to your computer via the included USB cable. Your iPhone may prompt you to connect to iTunes. Install it for FREE at iTunes.com
4. Activate your device online at att.com/Activations or by calling 1-866-895-1099 from another phone.
5. Turn ON your iPhone and make a test call. If your call is not successful, wait one hour to allow the activation process to complete then try to make another call.

Did you get yours activated? I did it online and still havent got confirmation email and still show no service. My old iphone now also shows no service, so i wonder if i'm in some kind of limbo

so let me explain what just happened to me. I got fed up watching my phone sit in "back order" limbo so I called the Apple store down the street and was told they had plenty of iPhones in stock. Sales guy said they had just received more stock and had many available.

I called AT&T and asked them to cancel my order. They gave me the runaround - it "could not be canceled because it was in progress, and the phone would arrive around 10/14". I told them I was tired of being given excuses, I had pre-ordered very early and was given a 9/21 delivery confirmation. The order needed to be canceled. I knew other people had done it, and it needed to be canceled for me as well. After arguing with the CSR for a while he was able to cancel the order for me. Before I canceled I asked him repeatedly if my eligibility would go back to how it was BEFORE i pre-ordered. He swore it would. I must have asked him 3 or 4 times. repeatedly. I was tempted to ask him to send me an email, something in writing that assured me my eligibility would reset. He assured me I had nothing to worry about (i'm an idiot at this point for trusting anything ATT is telling me)

10 minutes later. Order canceled. Thank god. Off to Apple!

I pull up to the Apple store - SURPRISE!! My eligibility did not reset and I am no longer eligible for the iPhone 5 - in fact, I am not available for an upgrade until 2014! I must buy the phone at full price.

At this point, I am really ready to tell ATT to go to hell. I call them back and the CSR tells me I need to wait 72 hours for the eligibility to "reset" and even then they cannot guarantee it will reset for me.

I was so angry I told the CSR I was going to cancel my service after being a loyal customer for 10 years. She went to find me a "manager". Manager comes back, apologizes profusely for all my troubles and then tells me it will take 72 hours for the eligibility to reset and there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING he can do. He says it is their systems fault and he cannot override it.

I ripped into this man. I mean, I'm embarrassed to admit how angry I got with him. Worst part is, I'm a really nice guy and I hate treating people poorly - but I was a HUGE ****** to this poor manager. I let him have it.

I told him to cancel my service. He said they did not want to lose my business after 10 years. I said I did not care, I was done with ATT. I was standing in the Apple store and was going to switch to Verizon. Manager begs me to please give him 5 minutes. He puts me on hold.

2 minutes later he comes back - PROBLEM RESOLVED. Shocking!! My eligibility has MAGICALLY been reset. But I thought it was a system error and there was nothing he could do??? Well surprise surprise everything is magically fixed. I thank him (begrudgingly, since what I really want to do is tell him to go to hell).

I walk back into Apple, which by the way, had many iPhones in stock. They had cards in their hands that they were handing out to customers - each card represented an iphone in stock - and they had TONS of cards. I would guess over a hundred. No problems with inventory at all. 10 minutes later, walked out with my new iPhone 5.

you know what made me the angriest? After all the yelling, all the headaches, all the tension - the ATT manager on the phone tried to sell me a Uverse bundle before he hung up. I think I said something along the lines of "if you seriously try and sell me Uverse right now, I'm going to lose my **** on you"

Now that's what I call opening up an extra large can of WHOOP-ASS! I'm lovin' it! Nice job man, and CONGRATS on your awesome phone! Damn if that doesn't make me smile brighter than the sun!:D:D:D

1711 "pending shipment" all week. Ordered at 4:00 am on the 14th. No idea when my phone is coming.

I've had my door bell ring TWICE today and neither time was Fed Ex :(

AT&T Is Renting My Phone From Me...

...or at least that is how I am choosing to look at it now. My iPhone 4 works fine, and AT&T wanted my phone so badly that they rented it for me for $150 bucks (statement credit) for a couple weeks. I might even do that deal long-term if they are interested. Maybe I'll call them and ask.

just canceled both me and the wifes preorders as she was in the local radio shack getting white 32gb. they are now canceling all preorders with no BS about "processing" or any other excuse. The CSR said they were given the green light to cancel per customer repquest and "reverse" the upgrade. Looks like I get to drive around town after work hunting a black 64gb. Damn.

Well,

I am pretty angry at ATT right now.

I ordrred at 11:23 AM Eastern Time at an ATT store in Boston was told i will receive the phone in 7 days. i had an order number start with XB01 and am the same ooat as everyone else dealing with the back order - 1, I called 611 / 0 and was told that my phone will ship 10/4 - 10/15.. complete joke.

but whats an even bigger joke is that i could go onto the ATT website and order a brand new i phone right now, and there is an overnight option for shipping that is an additional 14 dollars.. is this true? possible?

I am waiting back for Customer service to call back and let me know if any of the stores in my area can hold me a phone and i'll cancel my pre order.

i wish i never pre ordered in the first place!

I received my black 64gb iPhone 5 today, but might want to swap for the white. How hard do you think it will be to walk in and swap today at an AT&T store? Do they keep any stock for exchanges like Apple? Should I just go to the Apple store? The phone is still unopened.

Still waiting for my delivery..BUT...

On a side note, the Space Shuttle Endeavour just flew by JPL and Pasadena! WOW! WOW! WOW! Such a great day looking "up" at the sky and it'll be an even better day looking "down" at my new phone.

A very exciting day!

Just thought I'd share these pics while we're patiently waiting and reading this forum. :)

My in-store order from 9:15 am EST just FINALLY moved to 0 in the backorder column. No shipping info, but at least it's off backorder. Fingers crossed it's shipping soon.

well. i just got the 16gb black delivered and it's at my office, and they did have them sign it, idk if it was mandatory or not though.

still waiting for my 16gb white to go from backorder to not ): next time i will be choosing(if i preorder at all) the fedex shipping or the black phone, lol.

FedEx apparently is requiring a signature for my phone and would not leave it at my building. Does anyone know if I can pick it up at the FedEx hub later tonight when it gets back? If so, anyone know where the one in Brooklyn, NY is located and how late they're open?

I stopped by the AT&T store today to learn they still had a few iPhone 5 32GB in stock. They weren't able to cancel (or even find!) my order in the store. So, while I was calling AT&T to cancel he held one in the back for me. After literally 10 seconds of holding I spoke to a rep who looked up my order and told me that she could still cancel it because it had not yet shipped. I had originally preordered 30' after the preorder opened, but because of a CC verification issue the order date was pushed to 9/16.

Moral of the story is that for how bad the preorder process was, the guy in the AT&T store was very nice and efficient, and I now have an iPhone 5. Might be something to try for those still waiting.... I'm definitely sticking with Apple or a physical AT&T store in the future.

Wahoo!

WAHOOOO! FINALLY SOME PROGRESS!

My order just went from backordered 1 to 0!

Is this a good thing? It still has not shipped. Pic below

Ordered at 10:04am est in AT&T retail store
