AT&T Preorder/Upgrade Hostage

I preordered a 16 gig black iPhone in store on the 14th at 2:22 PM MST at a corporate ATT store. My status still shows backordered and processing. I stood in line this morning at the ATT store where I preordered the phone and got to the register with a new phone available to me. I asked the clerk to cancel my preorder so I could buy the phone. She told me she could not do that. I expressed my disbelief and she went to her manager and came back a few minutes later and said that they had no process to cancel my order. I was not rude but told her that this was a very poor customer service experience and that they should just have handed me the phone number to Verizon as they couldn't drive a customer away any faster if they tried. I called ATT to see if I could cancel my preorder and get my upgrade status returned so I could go to the Apple store that still had phones. I was told they could not cancel my preorder as it was placed instore. I am leaving on vacation Tues the 25th and was looking forward to using the camera. Now I am just a hostage of ATT preorder/upgrade limbo. Really poor customer service on ATT's part.
 
I had to sign for our iPhones, so good thing I took a half day vacation.

Did anyone else have to sign?
 
Finally shipped! Should be here Monday before 3 PM woohoo.

Ordered both my wifes and my phone in store at 9 AM EST Sept 14th, order went through at probably 9:30 AM.

Received the shipping email from AT&T at 4:21 PM EST today.

FYI...if anyone lives near Fishers, IN and your phone is out for delivery, there's a FedEx truck on the side of the road with a dead battery. My first thought..."I wonder how many iPhones are on that truck?".

anyones iphone 5 unable to access 4G network? Mine only can use wifi internet.

I don't know crap about iphones, but my daughter has one. There's a on/off switch for wifi hot spots that allows your phone to utilize wifi instead of the 4g network in order to save data usage. You might switch to 4g only and see if it works.
 
Want to throw my update into the pile... Just had maybe the best call I've ever had with a technology company. Made me love AT&T again. So, backstory.. We weren't due for upgrades. So I kindly called AT&T on 13th and they gave us an early upgrade on 1 of two phones. Paid full rate on the other one at $549. At that time they apologized and said when I order my phones, they promise I'll get them on 21st. I was stoked about that. Called AT&T this morning to get a status update, they were rude and didn't say anything new to me.

Just called again and got to speak to a very nice AT&T manager. They informed me of some interesting facts. Their online updating system is very far delayed and "don't trust a thing it says". "No phones are back ordered at this time". Just a matter of shipping them slowly so they all get to their owners correctly and most of them are at FedEx locations atm. I was told my order was processed completely and they see it's on it's way to me but no word on when it'll arrive. Maybe by Monday? They are seeing plenty of phones arrive without tracking information. So.. lets wait and see what happens here.

I just spoke to an AT&T customer service woman located in Canada. She looked up my order, and says that it is in the final stages before shipping and should be shipped either Monday or Tuesday. Hmmmm.... we shall see.

I was out of the country, so I could not order on Friday. My Premier online order went in about 10AM Sunday morning - 9/16 for a 16GB Black iphone 5.

My order has been backordered ever since. I never had a delivery date - just the 14-21 business day email.

My credit card had two pending charges - one for $1 and one for $211 that stayed on until yesterday then fell off.

My Premier order number starts with 10101 but on the AT&T website it starts with 8450. Do either of those order numbers line up with numbers people have been talking about here?

So what do you think? Is she just blowing smoke or is this for real. I was super polite and nice on the phone, and she spent a long time trying to find out information for me. If it ships from China, how long does that usually take?

Called ATT to find out whats going with my order status. I pre-ordered my phone at ATT store on 14th at 12:30PM. The guy told me on the phone that he sees in his system that I should get my phone on the October 4th.


damn...I have to send in my current phone by the 1st. :(

I just did the same thing. I have the same order number. Now hooking up my new iPhone to itunes!

Apple experience is so much better than AT&T.
 
Just got off the phone with AT&T. Noticed I had gotten refunded so I gave them a call asking why. The representative let me know that Apple cancelled every order that was made using a debit card :mad: now I either have to go hunting for one or wait another 3 weeks :(

I wonder what this would mean to someone who payed with a debit card, hasnt been charged, and has already RECIEVED her phone (... me...)

Do I hold out hope that they WONT charge? Id be pleased to slip through the cracks... :p

This sounds like a bunch of bs to me. Not what you are saying but what the manager is stating. I hope it is true but just sounds so inconsistent with everything I've been told repeatedly
 
One last post in here......around an hour ago, I received my 32GB black that I ordered at 12:10am PDT on 9/14. Regular customer. My order number began with 1406. Shipped via FedEx.

My CC charge is still pending. I would guess that it will go through tonight, but I thought I'd let people know that not being officially charged doesn't mean you won't get your phone.
 
Yup I agree. I was tempted to go with another carrier but I have original unlimited data plan

Same here. I've heard Verizon in Chicago is good, plus they're better all over in general, but Im not gonna give up unlimited data. As soon as they say I can't have it, I'm gone.
