Update for everyone:

Ordered in-store 9/14 @ 9:15 EST. Both phones (32G white & 16G black) are shipped and have tracking. The white is saying delivery Monday while the black's shipping status is too early to confirm.

Went to bed last night back-ordered 2, woke up to 0. Everything else came in today. Latest update on order status was about an hour or so ago. 5:30 EST).

I hope everyone else on back-order comes out soon. That seems to do the trick (obviously)

So I walked into my local AT&T store today and they had two 32gb left. They were able to cancel my online order.. I will never preorder from AT&T again!!! But I have my phone! And by the way, I checked my order status, it still says backordered... Lmfao!!!
 
I gotta say, AT&T pulled through again for me. After days of vague statuses, I still got my iPhone 5 on release day at 11AM.

That's two years I've ordred through AT&T and now I have little reason not to considering how fast Apple went through their initial stock.

FINALLY out of backorder, preordered in store on the 14th at 9:30am CST ...now the waiting game for a tracking and shipping number...
 
So I walked into my local AT&T store today and they had two 32gb left. They were able to cancel my online order.. I will never preorder from AT&T again!!! But I have my phone! And by the way, I checked my order status, it still says backordered... Lmfao!!!

I canceled mine and says back ordered also! Ordering online through AT&T sucks!

STILL ON BACKORDER. Just called again and getting the October 4-21 scenario.
 
4:45am EST, still backordered

I completed my preorder on Sep14 @ 4:45am EST for a 64gb Black iPhone 5.
As of now, my AT&T is still showing my order at:
processing/pending shipment /backordered/whatever

This is after calling them day after day to find out wtf is going on.
I've been:

1) told I should receive my phone on time for ordering before the 9am cutoff.
2) told that I missed the cutoff, and AT&T doesn't know when they ship my phone
3) told that i have no idea what my place in the order line is (despite ordering at 4:45am EST), and that I cannot make any claim to AT&T being late with my order.
4) told that Sep21 delivery is only suggested. Apparantly, i didnt read the fine print when ordering.
5) my phone will ship Sep21
6) my phone will ship no earlier than Oct4-15
7) shipping my phone can take 14-21 business days
8) I dont need to accept terms and conditions
9) my phone is backordered because I did not accept the terms and conditions
10) hung up on by a nasty condescending manager
11) told that iPhone5 phone upgrade orders have priority over new line orders
12) told my phone is scheduled to ship "tonight" (on Sep20)

A nice rep did some digging for me and found that because I "added a line", which didn't process till 2pm(!), that I missed the 9am cutoff point.

I was so furious, I threatened to leave AT&T. I got a manager to credit my account for $90 (1 month), on top of the $36 activation-fee i got waived before. I told him I would only accept the $90 compensation if he admitted to me that AT&T screwed up. He apologized very politically about it (which is an apology in an unapologetic tone), and I was just so meh at that point, so I accepted.

I honestly still feel cheated only because AT&T won't be straight with us.
I can understand the logistical nightmare, especially for AT&T. But no other serious company today repeatedly lies so badly to its customers all the time, if not downright brush them off.

I encourage you all to teach this company a lesson. I doubt I or many others will stay with them in the long run. Especially now that Verizon iPhones come unlocked, and AT&T is still nasty about this too with its loyal customers!

I wouldn't mind most of this if AT&T would at least say "our bad".

If it comes down to the 21st, I'm jumping over to Verizon...
 
Disappointed

Ordered at 9am CDT and received two emails: one stating that it had been processed and a second stating it would be delivered on the 21st. No phone received on the 21st. I had to contact customer service after it did not arrive and was told all orders received after 9am PST would not be delivered on time and would be received from OCT 04-14. I explained that 9CST is earlier than 9PST and he stated that it must not have been processed until after.

I should not have received a confirmation email stating it would arrive on the 21st if that was the case. No compensation was offered and I cancelled the order. I filed a complaint with BBB and have asked for for a detailed explanation of why this occurred and what specific plans ATT has put in place to avoid this in the future.

Why wouldn't ATT proactively inform their customers of a 14-21 day delay?

Oh yeah, I told AT&T that I see many many people even on at&t's own customer forum saying that they received tracking numbers for orders they placed after 9am.

2 mangers and 1 rep all told me flat out that everyone is lying.
 
I got mine at around 2:30pm west coast. Had to go to the att store to do a swap since I used the upgrade for another line. I had to wait for about an hours while they figured it out... all is good now though! :apple:

Canceled my pre-order with AT&T at 3:30 PM and reset the eligibility. Walked in the Lenox Apple Store in Atlanta at 4:45 PM, less than an hour later I was walking out with a white 32GB iPhone 5. Thanks Apple, Screw you AT&T.
 
Went to local ATT store at 3:30est. They still had some left 16gb-64 white phones left. Said they started with 64. (Didnt ask for exact amount left).

I'm now a Verizon customer for that exact reason!
 
Anyone else here all iPhone pre-orders are technically off back order? All I can get the CSRs to say is it's "in progress". I knew that!

im still backordered if i do receive my iPhone 5 next week ill just give it to my mom because I'm switch carriers to a regional carrier nTelos they get the iPhone 5 on the 28th. at this point I'm just mad that i was told i would receive it on the 21st and was never notified other wise AT&T customer care is terrible.

btw i ordered at 5am est 9/14

Today I called AT&T for a change of pace. Spoke to a really nice gentleman whom seemed genuinely sincere in his apologies about this snafu. While he did indicate the usual 14-21 day period, I asked if this began with the 9/14 date...and he said yes! He went on to tell me that I could have it by 9/28, which makes perfect sense given that would be two weeks. It also jives because another poster this morning indicated that he had a buddy who received an e-mail confirming he'd be receiving his phone by next Wednesday (9/26). So, hope has returned.:)
