Got my phone and activated it successfully! I used my wife's upgrade so I simply followed the instructions that came in the box. Turned the phone on, went through the on screen steps, used iTunes to restore from MY last save, then I called the number on the instructions and the rep talked me through the rest. It took about 10 minutes. They even honored my grandfathered unlimited data plan! At first he said "sir, it looks like one option is not going through....the unlimited 4G data plan...." And I said, "I was told that AT&T would allow me to continue my grandfathered unlimited data plan".....he was silent for a few minutes and then came back "OK sir I was allowed to put your grandfathered unlimited data plan in place". AWESOME! Great experience....I love this new phone!!!!
 
It's true the reps don't know a thing.

I've called countless times, and each time was different
One told me that AT&T preorders will ship to store on the 21st
And to call and find out then
Another one said that 64gb weren't the popular ones and that
16& 32gb (all black models) were the ones that most people inclined about
Another lady took my call and got her manager because when she clicked on my order, another phone came up! Instead of the iPhone 5.
So I went to AT&T in Jersey City where I placed the preorder
And the manager said it says it on the receipt so its going to be ok.
I know it was crazy today but had him check. He said it must be a glitch with the higher version models? He said it happened last year too.Never heard that one before! I ordered my 4S and that is a 64gb black and never heard of that. Then another guy said today that I must have just missed that magical cut off and it should be 14-21 days... I don't get the point of preorder if everyone gets theirs by going to the stores and we obviously had it "reserved" so why aren't we getting ours like we are supposed to?
 
16gb sold out all over southern NJ/Philly/DE. So at this point I have no option but just to wait for me and my wife's phone to come. Both on backorder, and I'm sure they will be for another 2 weeks. I refuse to goto an AT&T or an apple store until I get my phone. I don't wanna ruin it.

EDIT: wtf is order with EXTP fkn mean its so annoying just seeing backorder over and over and over again.

Ya the store I preordered at sold out within 2 hrs of opening. It's ironic so many folks could have gotten their phones today if they HADN'T preordered from AT&T. Haven't read the other thread but I think most apple.com preorders that were quoted initial 21st delivery got theirs today.
 
I think the 64gb black was a big seller this year, I think AT&T is downplaying a lot of which is which as far as what versions are popular. Everyone is mostly opting for the black version. I don't blame them it looks so good!

Rep confirmed that my phone (black 32) shipped today. But she could not access tracking information. (?)

ATT order status page still says back ordered!

AT&T did the same crap to me. I ordered at 8am on Sept. 14th. It still said processing up until 1pm today. I called multiple times and got told many different things. First it WOULD be here on the 21st. Then it would ship on Thursday and would arrive on the 21st OR the 22nd. Then the last call was it would arrive between October 5th and the 15th. My roommate ordered one an hour after I did and her's arrive today. WTF is wrong with AT&T's system!! I have always ordered from Apple, and will NEVER order from AT&T again. I went into an AT&T store at 1pm today and they had one black 64Gb left. I had ordered a black 32Gb, but I wanted it today, so I took it. After some drama from the store reps saying that my current order could not be cancelled and it would take 3 days for my upgrade to be re-credited to my account, I stood there with the phone in sight and called the ecom order number for AT&T. They politely cancelled my online order, and immediately credited my upgrade back to me. I was able to buy the phone in store and I have it in my hand now. Between customer service and the idiots in the store, I really think AT&T needs to train their people better. Especially before major launches.

I was told by AT&T that even if order status says "Processing" there is high hope I may get our phones tomorrow as many have been shipped and not updated. If they don't come in, they'll call me Monday and setup alternative steps which is most likely cancel the order and go to an AT&T store that has phones in stock. I hope be holding a new phone tomorrow.

So, as a founding member of the 1406 order group who was being screwed by AT&T I have made the ultimate move. I found out this afternoon that they got a second shipment into the Apple store in Atlantic City. Went down and stood in a short line and they had a 64gb black, like I wanted, in stock. The Apple guy said I should try and cancel my order with AT&T first. Tried on the phone. AT&T CSR said that because I had accepted the T&C when I ordered, there was no way my order could be cancelled. Asked to talk to a manager. He said the same thing. I then told him that AT&T would do that, even with the threat that I'd move to Verizon? He said that was perfectly fine for me to do and that they regretted they'd be losing my business. I've been with them since 2002. Hung up and ported my number over to Verizon. Got the phone I wanted and was back out the door in under 30 minutes. So, AT&T doesn't give a ***** about any of us. They really don't. But, it gets even better. Called AT&T to make sure my account got closed out. They mentioned that I still had an active order in their system. That I will be charged for the phone if I don't return it. I told the CSR that I have absolutely no information about that order because they can't seem to give me any information about it. She went and looked it up and still can't give me any information about the order other than a vague reference that it might ship in the next couple of weeks. But, even though I'm no longer a customer, they can't cancel the order?? She said that when I get the phone I'm to turn it in at my local AT&T store or I risk getting charged the cancellation fee. You have to love them. Even when you're not a customer they still can't do it right. LOL!!
 
I'm in a LTE area, but my phone says 4G. Anyone else have the same thing?

I had the same issue, so I called ATT and found that they had the wrong data plan on my account. Need to make sure you are on the iPhone 5 LTE data plan.

Also in settings on the cellular tab LTE can be turned off, make sure it is on.
 
I'm in the 1406 group as well. Still no iPhone 5. Still no updates to my order status. This is beyond ridiculous.

Hi 1406 order number group — Did anyone receive any kind of shipment notification? Or has anyone received their iPhone today? Curious... because I have received absolutely no shipment notification, and my friend who ordered about 7 hours after me on the 14th received notification for a wednesday shipping.
 
going to rush to the closest apple store to try and get my hands on a 64gb white one since mine is still backordered :mad:
 
Finally got fed up with AT&T and cancelled my order this morning when I was told it wouldn't be shipped for 14-21 days even though I had ordered in the window to get it delivered on the 21st. I ordered my phone threw premier and they had a problem with my address because I live in New Mexico with a Bay Area area code, so they halted the order and I couldn't get a hold of them all last weekend. Wednesday night I was assured the problem was fixed, they said they would overnight it for a friday delivery, so they sent me a tracking number for a phone that was being sent to Michigan. After noticing where it was being shipped to I called them again and they said they had already called FedEx to have the phone rerouted to their warehouse (which was not the case because the tracking number shows it was delivered and signed for). They once again told me I would receive an email with the new shipping number and that it would arrive friday. Well obviously that didn't happen, so after making a few phone calls to corporate, they apologized and secured a phone at my local AT&T that will be ready for pickup in the morning.

I am in this 1604 group with the exact same situation - I called, spoke to a manager politely and asked to cancel my order, explaining I knew of at least 3 stores nearby where I could get the phone I wanted right now. He is processing the order right now, so it's not 100%, but he said it would not be a problem. I'd rather take my chances in the stores.

Did you go to the Apple store? I went to the one in my area and they still had lots of phones left. I bought a second 64 gig white for my brother at around 3 PM from the apple store (his preorder got jacked too and he was stuck at work all day). AT&T has become really good at upgrade reversals and cancellations because of this lol. The upgrade was available immediately on my second order as well.

Just do a cancellation and upgrade reversal over the phone or in live chat and head to the store. Make sure they do the upgrade reversal sometimes they just cancel and you have to remind them to do the reversal.
 
Did not receive my pre-ordered iPhone 5

The UPS truck came around 3pm, stopped at my house, the driver spent some time rummaging through the back, and then he just left again. What a disappointment! Did they loose my phone? How can I find out?

The problem is I already sold my old iPhone. I have to ship it today to get the promised price.
