Hey, just FYI i think apple stores are restocking a few small batches throughout the day. My brother just picked one up and when I called the fifth avenue apple store they said they're "sold out at the moment, but have been getting them in small increments." So I would keep checking with whatever apple store is closest to you.

Now, what this means is apple is just trying to create hype and have lines waiting out the door. I mean where is this "stock" coming from. I'm sure they had it yesterday, but are intentionally doing this. Honestly, i'm just annoyed at this whole situation. The fact that people are able to walk into a store on the second day and get the phone from some "magical inventory" and our preorders have to wait 14-21 days. How does that make sense.

When I worked for Apple, at the time of the 3G phone release we had hundreds in the back and they were in huge boxes and in those boxes were boxes of 10 phones at a time so BOH (Back of House) staff opens up more boxes when they "feel like it" and then they get "more in stock"
 
Ordered from ATT store on 14th, still no shipping info when I check a minute ago.

My neighbor walked in to a Verizon store friday morning and bought one!

nightmare of a pre-order (premier and non premier)

well this is my dilemma - Sept 14 at around 11AM PST I went to att.com/wireless logged in and I was prompted to a screen to check eligibility and I did click on it and it forwarded me to the premier website (BLUE Theme Website, not the orange one) I did go through the upgrade information and put in my credit card info and did everything to the tee. (I did the same thing with my 2nd line)

I got 2 emails confirming my Order and that was it (no terms and conditions)

Sept 15 I called to verify but the overseas call center can't seem to find my order and suggested I place the order to make sure, so I did, then they charged my debit card for both phone upgrades and I got the terms and conditions and I agreed to them and on Monday Sept 17 I got an email saying my order was processed.

I have been calling AT&T since Monday and trying to speak to premier and make sure that my order was taken care of on that Friday but being on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes every time I just give up....So I spoke to someone today Sept 22 and was informed that my order will ship out October 5 - October 16

All I said was WOW! They apparently do not understand the word PRE-ORDER. So I guess I will have to cancel my plans of traveling overseas since I sold my old iPhone 4 already and using my dual band flip phone.

What an experience - I checked http://www.wireless.att.com/order_status website and it says BackOrder 1 on both orders.

Anyone with similar experience? Updates? Better News?:mad:
 
Hi guys I was in that 1406 group I was still back ordered today but I went to a local AT&T store and the manager there overrode my preorder I was able to walk out of the store with my new iPhone 5 arty to all of you who got screwed like I did this might be the best way to go. Oh I also threatened to go to Verizon so that might have helped they also gave me $150 bill credit.

what state are you in? I tried to ask the 611 lady about that, they said the store is a complete separate store from ordering online and you will have to pay upfront in the store...I tried to explain whats the difference with paying online and picking it up. You still paid for it. She can't answer that question.

It said delivery on Sept 22. It was delivered about 2 hours ago. Looks amazing.

Both of our phones shipped 21st .. Don't know how u got FedEx Saturday delivery and our FedEx delivery is set for Monday. :mad: oh well, anticipation will make it that much sweeter. Probably driving home Monday at lunch, grab mine and drive back to work lol

Kind of figured that out...I guess it makes sense. Keeps the hype going for several days to weeks instead of just 1 or 2 days. But it ends up sucking for those of us who preordered, which I will never do again.

Just wanted to say that I ordered my iPhone 5 (Black 32GB) in an AT&T store in NYC around 10am eastern on 9/14, and today my order status updated to shipped, with a delivery date of Monday by 3PM. Not the launch day pickup I was hoping for, but I can live with a delay of one business day considering how crazy the preorders have been.

The AT&T store staff have been terrible, though. When I called on Friday to check on my order, they said they couldn't tell me when my order would come in, and that I couldn't cancel my preorder even if they had phones in stock. They clearly wanted to get me off the phone as soon as possible. AT&T may not have been able to do anything about their supply issues, but they could have done a much better job with their customer service.

FYI, for those living in NYC, best case scenario is to go to apple 5th ave store, why? its the biggest store in nyc and they get the biggest shipment of iPhones. but, all stores in nyc (apple stores) get daily shipments, and it varies, so its not like they are doing it to hype people into making a line. its just they get shipments but dont know how many a day, it varies from the initial launch day shipment which would of been the most. i'd try and call early morning each day and mid to late afternoon as well.
 
I ordered mine 9/14 around 7 pm. When do you think i will get my phone? It is still backordered -_______-

hi fellow ny'er! sucks about ur story, i dont get why most people are ordering thru att though, doesnt anyone remember when the iphone 4 and 4S were released? its always best to preorder from apple directly. i should be getting mine mid next week from apple :)
 
Excellent!! My sister's iPhone got it's tracking number in the past 2 hours. :D Still says In Progress in its status, so probably soon will say Shipped like mine did 2 days ago.

9/21 Received first call from ATT manager to clarify details.

9/21 Received call back from ATT manager verifying phone is on back order. No date available, but confident it will ship "very soon." Offered to cancel preorder, 48 hours for upgrade to reset. I declined offer (no area stores had any, no energy to argue for the instant resets I've seen on here).

9/22 Backorder went from 1 to 0 between 1am and 8am (this morning).

9/22 Tracking number went up between 1pm and 3:30pm today.

Shipped from Ft. Worth via FedEx, estimated delivery Monday 9/24 by 3pm.

oh, order #XFM15XXXXXX where FM15 is store number listed on receipt)

Good for you....you are one of the few, some people like me ordered on the 14th didnt get processed till the 17th....So I guess nothing is really clear.Enjoy your new phone!

This did give me a little hope , I was thinking of trying to cancel later today .
But I think with my bad luck it would just backfire for me && make matters worse .
Guess it's just the waiting game now . .

Has anyone tried and been successful in looking up a fedex tracking using their wireless number or att order number before you get a tracking number?

Many have said that the att site was slow in updating order status. I've tried to look up fedex tracking with my phone and order number to no avail so far.

My reference number on FedEx doesn't correspond to my account number, phone number(s), order number(s), or anything I can find really. Just random.
 
how long after u phone came out of backorder did it ship i ordered on 9/14 at 2:00 pm and it just came out of backorder sometime last night but not showing shipped or a tracking number
