I just called them and cancelled my two orders. First the girl tried to tell me I couldn't cancel and she was very nice about it, then I asked to speak to a manager who got on the phone and cancelled it right away saying there was some misinformation on their floor. As long as it hasn't shipped that manager told me I could cancel it. He verified he had my upgrade status fixed on both lines showing I was eligible again. To verify I did the *639# and received a text message I could upgrade.

So for those original 2 orders that you canceled, did you accept the terms and conditions? When I tried to cancel my order, they said it could not be done because I had already accepted the terms and conditions.

Hey, just FYI i think apple stores are restocking a few small batches throughout the day. My brother just picked one up and when I called the fifth avenue apple store they said they're "sold out at the moment, but have been getting them in small increments." So I would keep checking with whatever apple store is closest to you.

Now, what this means is apple is just trying to create hype and have lines waiting out the door. I mean where is this "stock" coming from. I'm sure they had it yesterday, but are intentionally doing this. Honestly, i'm just annoyed at this whole situation. The fact that people are able to walk into a store on the second day and get the phone from some "magical inventory" and our preorders have to wait 14-21 days. How does that make sense.

man oh man...i know. I am about to go to a local apple store and swap out my 16gb for a 32gb and maybe a color change. It is nice not to waste time and stand in line or pre-order and wait 21 days. Lolz...i slacked off and just walked right into apple and gave them green cash for white phones.

Same here. They said the terms and conditions were already accepted and the order could not be canceled.

Ridiculous isn't it? I agreed to continue my service as long as I get a new phone. But waiting a month for said phone might have been worth noting.

It is frustrating that they "accidentally" canceled my Friday 14th order but they can't cancel this order upon my request. They are determined for me to wait a month for the phone even though it was right there in front of my face at the store today. Worst experience with a business ever!

ordered on 14th around 3pm the afternoon PST.. was on backorder until yesterday. went to 0 and today got a tracking # from UPS.. it will arrive on 24th.. only 3 days late from on sale.. not bad!!

If true, this is horse [insert verbal diahrea string of obscenity that would curl toes].

yup its true I actually got a a copy of the email update he go...I asked the AT&T rep why that happened, he ordered a few days later than I did but he got an update before I did....

SILENCE.........

congrats...a lot of hopefuls in here to get the same email...as I said I ordered mine on the 14th about 12noon via Premier and had to do another re-order through phone support on the 15th and I got a confirmation of order processed on the 17th...

Now it says Backordered.......waiting....

Exact same thing happened to me. I chatted with the people with the people from tech support and they said I could. Called to cancel since I was holding anew phone in-store and they refused. I'm still trying to figure out how some people managed to get out of their orders and had it reset.

I don't know whether it was because I called the Premier support line or because I was at an Apple Store because I had no issue getting one of the orders canceled yesterday. Except for the long hold to get a CSR, I told the woman I was in front of the Apple Store with a ticket for an iPhone and wanted to cancel one of the orders (the phone for the other order was out of stock) so I could just purchase it. After about a 2 minute wait, the woman said I was good to go.

Now I'm not in as big of a hurry for the other order (it's in backorder), but I'm contemplating whether I want to switch it from a 64GB black to a 32GB black. I will probably only use about 20 GB at most and I don't know whether the resale value will be worth it for having the extra storage to pay another $100. However, I don't want to change the order and have them tell me my spot in line now jumps to the back. If it does I'll just keep my order as is and find a way to fill the space. (as my order date already moved from the 14th to the 19th because they used the wrong name on my CC and I had to call them to straighten it out)

I was one of those people that ordered early Friday night and received a confirmation email at 3:04 AM (EST) stating that I would receive my phone on the 21st. I ordered a 16GB black iPhone. I was a bit paranoid when people started talking on this forum about having the back order number change to 0, while mine was always at 1. I called AT&T multiple times and they assured me that if i ordered before 9:00 AM (EST) that I would definitely receive my phone by the 21st.

So on the afternoon of the 20th when I found that my backorder number had not changed. I decided to call AT&T again, this time they said that unfortunately for those who ordered at very early would be out of luck and the delivery date for them would be pushed back 2 weeks because of a "server problem". So even though it wasn't i fault of my own, and even though they received my order and they screwed up, i got screwed in the end.

So when the 21st came and I didn't receive my phone i wasn't surprised. The next day however, I went to a Walmart, and just for the fun of it i thought I would ask to see if they had any iPhones in stock. They actually did. They received a shipment just 10 minutes before I got there. So i made a quick call to AT&T had my order cancelled, my upgrade reversed and now I finally have my iPhone.

Thank you AT&T for screwing me out of a phone, and thank you Walmart for delivering.

Same here. They said the terms and conditions were already accepted and the order could not be canceled.

They said that to me too threaten to cancel service completely and ask to talk to a supervisor I canceled my order this morning and walk in the AT&T store bought a phone just like the one I had on preorder and walked out. Just don't take no for an answer eventually they will cancel it for you good luck

#1489 and still back ordered Blk/32g from the 14th.
Was not allowed to cancel in store order.. Grandfathered data and crazy amount of rollover . Good thing I only pre ordered 1 ,I can still try the store and upgrade with my 4s work phone ..
I'll be sure to smile nextime I get a message saying I'm in the top 3 % of data users in the country, glad I'm unlimited ... Pre Ordering was a joke..

Alright so I was first to pre-order mine in my local AT&T store. 16G black, 1231 first 4 numbers. Backorder just went off yesterday, no shipment info yet though. Called ATT and the lady told me it was still on backorder............. what is this non sense.

So AT&T didn't give you any problems with canceling and reversing the order? They kept saying no to me and told me that I was just stuck with it. Did you say anything specific?

Yeah. Tried twice on my end. It sounded more like the system would not allow them to cancel the order. They themselves had no issues on canceling the order for me.

Does anyone know what going off of backorder means? I've been off of it for about a day now.

ordered in store 10:04am est

I don't actually know what it means, but from seeing the progress of everyones status updates over the last week, it seems once you get off backorder a phone has been assigned to you and it should be shipped out shortly.

I know someone said that earlier in this thread, and it seems to have held true.

Thank you. I got off of a chat with an AT&T CSR and she told me Oct 4th-15th. Either backorder means absolutely nothing, or that woman is BSing me. The reps have been absolutely terrible.

I came on here to be bitter as well.

I preordered mine on Sept. 14 at like, 1pm CA time... now it says that my order wasn't processed till the 17th... & is currently on backorder.

What even?

Backorder Hell

We ordered two separate phones on the 14th around 7pm. We have been on backorder ever since. When you call the order status number the one phone said the order was received and is being processed... 30 minutes later I checked and it went back to being backordered...

Anyone else in the same boat in terms of ordering date & time?

Ye, reps know diddly squat. A rep I spoke to said said 14-21 days from when you placed your order. Honestly, I'm hoping these things get shipped soon. There is NO shortage of these phones. Read the thread on macrumors home page on apple getting out their October 5 deadline phones early.

I wish i was off backorder!

Welcome, there are quite number of us who have the same situation as you.

My backorder went to 0 sometime in the last 3 hours, no tracking yet. 64gb white. Ordered at store for home delivery at about 2pm EDT on 9/14. I was told 2-3 weeks then. I'm adding line to my account (store told me to transfer the line after I get it to keep things simple on the order - i'm moving from another carrier).

Another disadvantage of att order is that I'll have to schedule with guru and go in to apple store to get AppleCare + , att can't sell it on preorders??? That seemed weird.

I also placed my order about 7:25 cst Friday morning through premier and had no emails or problems but my order date was pushed back to the 17th. Still on backorder. If any 17ths get an update out of back order let us know!
