I called 611 and wanted to get more info on my order (ordered 9/14 10:45 AM Eastern - White 32GB). The rep said he would be able to cancel my order (backorder 1 since forever) and reset my account so I could get the standard upgrade price again. I was tempted to do it, but ... after calling several att stores in my area (south florida) none had any inventory at all. It appears random shipments are arriving, but no way to know when or where.

btw, I am also in the EXTP889981 order group.
 
There's hope!

I don't actually know what it means, but from seeing the progress of everyones status updates over the last week, it seems once you get off backorder a phone has been assigned to you and it should be shipped out shortly.

I know someone said that earlier in this thread, and it seems to have held true.


I ordered a 32wht and 32blk at the AT&T store at 10:09 am according to my receipt. I was told it would be 14-21 days and my order started with X. The white one came off of backorder yesterday morning but the blk one showed backordered until one hour ago when I got tracking numbers for both phones!!!!!

Not saying this had anything to do with it but I did call in and ask about canceling both orders. I was told I could not cancel because of something having to to do with an "invoice number".
In any event I'm both surprised and happy because delivery says Mon.

I'm hoping the same for all of you out there.

A pre-order is an order placed for an item which has not yet been released. The idea for pre-orders came when people found it hard to get popular items in stores due to their popularity. Companies were then given the idea to allow people to reserve their own personal copy, before the release, which has been a huge success. Pre-orders allow consumers to guarantee immediate delivery on release, manufacturers can gauge how much demand there will be and hence how large initial production runs should be, and sellers can be assured of minimum sales. How many people here ordered early on the 14th, had no credit issues etc, yet are still backodered and have unlimited data and/or service contracts with better deals than are offered today?

As an example, I have unlimited data and only pay about $70 a month total. I have a crazy number of rollover minutes as well. The fact that AT&T feels like they are passive aggressively trying to get me to jump ship is the only excuse I can come up with.

Yeah. 1504 order, backorder 1, pending shipment as of 5:30 pm CT, Saturday, i5 black 64gb ordered. I'm a 7yr customer, never late w payment, unlimited data, AList calling feature (no charge, up to 10 landlines), unlimited texting on the cheap, ********s of rollover minutes, et, et. No phone on the 21st, and I ordered 9/14, 2:49am CT. My AMEX has also been charged, btw

Haha yes well said. It's so annoying they can't understand what a pre order is. Here's an idea once they sold the last phone they would have in stock then stop taking any more pre orders because it useless at that point.
 
Ordered two 16 gb, White & Black iphones on 14th, 3 pm in ATT store. W came off back order yesterday night, received shipping confirmation email today. It will arrive on Monday. B came of back order just now. Hoping to receive the shipping confirmation soon.

My iPhone came off back order yesterday and i didn't get an email. did they charge your card. where do you live

Pre-ordered my iPhone 16gb black on the 14th at 10:30am Central time. Just got a tracking # and will be here Monday by 3pm via FedEx. :D

I think once it's not backordered anymore it will get a shipping number soon. Seems to be following this pattern reading everyone's post including my experience.

been 24 hours or since i have been off backorder...so frustrating :mad:
 
I've been following this. Here's my quick story.

Preordered a 64gb Black iPhone 5 online at 6:01am CST on 9/14. Got an order confirmation immediately.
Next day was notified via email there was a credit card issue (quite common it seemed since my gf had a problem with her card too when ordering). Was assured by a rep and supervisor that I would not lose my "place" in the preorder process. Sure enough, I did.
My order dated was changed to 9/17. Furious. So today I took a chance. Walked a few blocks away at about noon and was lucky enough to snag my 64gb iPhone 5 black from the AT&T retail store. The last one they had in this particular model.
Currently in limbo on hold with another CSR who is attempting to cancel my old preorder.

Just posting to say that sometimes there is light at the end of the proverbial tunnel...
 
So for those original 2 orders that you canceled, did you accept the terms and conditions? When I tried to cancel my order, they said it could not be done because I had already accepted the terms and conditions.

Yes, I had accepted the same day I ordered them, 9/14/12.
 
They didn't give me any problems canceling my order. It was very straight forward. At least they got that process right. I called and explained to them what happened and she cancelled my order and reveresed the upgrade immediately. The Walmart representative was able to do my upgrade in store right away without a problem.
 
So this is new, at least for me.

Been in back-order hell. It just went to 0 for me, however, my status says "n/a". I don't like that at all. They list four choices for status: processing, cancelled, etc. "n/a" is not one of them and does not give me a good feeling at all.

But seeing the 0 in the back-order column saved me from nerd raging a hammer to my computer screen. :)

Which number did you call when you told them to cancel it?
 
I came on here to be bitter as well.

I preordered mine on Sept. 14 at like, 1pm CA time... now it says that my order wasn't processed till the 17th... & is currently on backorder.

Same here. Talked to rep over ph to order, Sep 14 1 PM CA time, but order shows as 9/15 and the reason they say is it tool them that long to get CC approval - but my bank sent me a CC charge like in 5 min. I also accepted the Terms and Conditions immediately.

Online status shows processing since that day.
 
Just got off a Chat Agent, and for the second time was informed that you can cancel a preorder eventhough you have accepted the Terms and Conditions. She said to do this you must call:

"You may reach one of our Product Specialists on 800-331-0500, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM Eastern Time; Saturday from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Eastern Time"

But it seems if you call 611, they say no you can't, but the Chat Agent has said yes to me in two occasions. I saved both chats as evidence.

Hope this helps someone...so we call all get off the backorder limbo :(
