I called 611 and wanted to get more info on my order (ordered 9/14 10:45 AM Eastern - White 32GB). The rep said he would be able to cancel my order (backorder 1 since forever) and reset my account so I could get the standard upgrade price again. I was tempted to do it, but ... after calling several att stores in my area (south florida) none had any inventory at all. It appears random shipments are arriving, but no way to know when or where.
