I ordered on Thursday, 9/20. I needed to order through the phone because a manager had to override my upgrade eligibility and waive the $250 early upgrade fee during the checkout process. The order was finalized and I was given a 14-21 estimate. The manager was nice enough to add priority shipping for free without me even asking for it. I got my order number on 9/21 and it's been "processing" since, with no other information provided.

I spoke to a live chat agent earlier today to try to switch my 16gb iPhone to a 32gb. I also asked if it'd be possible to cancel and buy at a store. After looking at my order status, he said that my order status shows that it'll be shipping out soon and I should receive it this week. If he's right and telling accurate information, I'll be super happy. If he's not, no biggie because I was originally expecting to wait 14-21 days for the phone. The guy proceeded to waive all of the activation fees, 3 lines in my family plan, so I don't think he was just being a dbag and trying to get me off the line. We'll see what happens...

I'm not sure that order numbers mean anything. I have seen so many different forms of AT&T order numbers in this thread that it almost seems like they are randomly assigned. My order number is a bunch of letters and numbers with no rhyme or reason.

I'm thinking they do have a little meaning such as order method; store, phone, online. ... And what time it was placed.

For example with my order # 90410, every order I've seen posted with this # had been a phone order as well and near the same time I ordered.

Not so sure that the order #'s matter though in terms of the order of shipments.

I don't think I've seen anyone post a 90410 with a tracking # yet, is there anyone on here?

My 1504 order switched to 0 backordered today. I won't be keeping it since I switched carriers and they said I couldn't cancel it yet. But giving a heads up you should hopefully expect yours too.

I am a 9031. I preordered the 32gb black ip5 on 9/15 and I'm still waiting to get off the backorder list

I pre ordered a black 16GB in store on 9/14 around 11:00AM PST. My status has been stuck on processing ever since. I called att customer service asking if I could go into a store and cancel my preorder and get a store stock handset and the rep said yes. Went to a corporate store and was going to purchase a 32GB as they had some in stock but they stated they could not cancel my pre-order. I have been tired of getting the run around and misinformation. I guess ill have to wait it out

Not ideal but I got it

Couldn't follow this thread yesterday as I was going to physical retailers trying to get a phone.

I was an early preorder (1306) on 12:02 AM PT on 9/14. I received no email confirmation from AT&T. Earlier this week, my order was listed as Processing/Backordered. On Friday morning I called AT&T to see if they could provide an update. They confirmed that I was backordered with no set delivery date. I asked if I should cancel the order while trying to source a phone locally. AT&T told me that I should hold onto the order and when I found a phone, have the store go through an upgrade reversal so that I can get the right price, with the online order as the backup plan.

That was a mistake. I should've canceled the order right then. Because I had to go through the upgrade reversal at the Palo Alto Apple Store, I ended up keeping one of the AT&T fulfillment guys they had on hand there on hold with the mothership for 45 minutes while they canceled my order and restored my price. The good news is that I didn't line up in the morning. I got to the store at 3 PM and waited for at most 10 minutes. Happy ending, I now have a 16 GB White iPhone 5. The store had an enormous supply of phones, which makes me think that AT&T severely prioritized inventory for their own stores over carriers and third party retailers. For the iPhone 6 or whatever, I'll probably do the retail thing again.

Same here. Ordered in store on 9/14 @ 10:38 am pdt. Order has been stuck 'processing', since. Will wait out.

Finally out of backorder!! I ordered in store on 9/14 at 9AM PST. Checked this morning and it was still back order and went to work feeling a little bummed after seeing so many others going from 1 to 0 on their backorder. Came home and mine was at 0! Now the wait for a shipping notification begins...

Ordered 4 iPhones at 6PM EST on 9/14, just got off backorder (went to "0") on all of them a couple hours ago. No shipment info or anything but I'm sure it'll be on Monday since shipping companies are closed on Sunday.

edit: Wow, a lot of you guys still haven't got off backorder and ordered earlier than me? That sucks, seriously. I've been itching this entire week and guess I got lucky.

My crappy story.

I have IP4 that was opened 10/2010. I was eligble for upgrade to IP5. Logged on at 1am on 9/14 and got to checkout but it would not let me use my old 2gb plan and shared minutes/text w/ family plan.

I didn't order from ATT.com

9/14 evening at 9pm, phone into ATT and ordered the IP5. Get a confirmation email asking for me to click "agree to terms and conditions". Clicked it. Nothing.

9/15: called ATT. They said everything good.

9/17: called ATT. They said original order invalid. Had to place a new order.

9/19: get an email with EXTP8899... shipping info.

Still no phone.

Weird thing is now I have two entries, one for 9/17 and other 9/19.

This makes the most sense. I have order 90410, and I was hoping it wasn't sequential. It wouldn't be possible IMHO.

Still on back order.

ordered white 16g at 4:31est 9/14, online store
( I wasn't sure I was going to order it)
Order number 1910
Went off back order 9/22
got shipping email this am for Mon delivery FedEx with tracking #

Strange - I have two orders showing, too, when I check. Same order number, same date, but different 800#'s listed for customer service. It's been that way since day one. Both show processing, backorder 1.

last night two 32g blacks went off back order.

was pretty excited until I saw everyone here have the same thing around the same time.

Ordered in store 9/14 ~11AM est.

One of my phones is shipping to the store while the other is shipping home. They weren't placed together but as two separate orders. This makes me think the off back order thing is meaningless, as after 8 days coming off of it withing 2 minutes of each other would be a HUGE coincidence.

It's a step foward at least you aren't back orderd any more, and are closer to getting the phone we all have been waiting for! Progress is progress
