I also received two emails shortly after my order went through at 8:57am ET, on Friday.

The first said:

I ordered my phone 3 hours before you - and I didn't get either of these :confused:

I had the same experience as mrcalabash.

I ordered my 16GB black at 5:53am CT and 1 minute later rec'd the email that said:

Great news – your new iPhone will ship soon!
What happens next:
Your order will arrive on 9/21/12
We’ll send a confirmation email when it’s ready
You can check your order status online anytime
You can check your order status online anytime

The second email came at 6:28am (35 minutes later) and said:

We have processed your order and it has been sent to our warehouse for shipment.

Your order cannot be changed or canceled at this time.

We’ll send you a confirmation email as soon as your order ships. Check your order status online at www.att.com/wirelessorderstatus.
 
Has everyone gotten their CSS email already? I ordered kinda late(8:30am CST) and just got mine. I'm thinking this is a good sign my phone comes on the 21st.
 
Does anybody know how to check your order status on the normal site (ordered from premier) when you ordered your phone on a new line?
 
How long after ordering did you see a charge on your CC, and how long after the charge did that second email come through?

My AT&T purchase is listed as a "pending charge." I don't know when it first appeared--didn't check it until hours after I ordered the phones.

I'm finding it interesting that people are experiencing disparate scenarios. You'd think these companies would have uniform procedures, although from my cursory perusal od other threads AT&T appears no worse than Apple, Verizon, or Sprint.

I ordered mine through the att upgrade app at about 715 central. Both phones say processing and there is a hold on my statement. Of course it won't actually charge until it ships so the hold will fall off it doesn't ship in the next few days. It just says order processing and the emails stated that i would receive it as soon as the 21st. I hope I get it then but whatever. When I ordered the 4 it said 14-21 days but I got it like a week later so as long as the order doesn't say canceled I'm ok.

So this sounds good this is how it should be, your spot should go by when your credit card was approved. However I wonder if that applies for those of us who had to get and accept the T&C email because we ordered by phone? I ordered 5 am pst 9/14 but didn't accept T&C until 9/15 and now it shows 9/15 as my order date which I'm not happy about because it seems like I didn't even get in the shipping line until I accepted..

Did you order by phone or online?
 
What is CSS ?

I may not really word it correctly. But it is a summary of your new bill, with any changes you made to your plan. Just to get an idea of what to expect. That is the short version of the explanation. They usually send you one when you upgrade or add a line. Some ppl here have reported receiving a summary that is updated after they placed their order. While most are saying they have not received it yet. I am assuming receiving the summary is a good sign that your order is one step closer to being shipped.
 
I ordered 2 iPhones at about 12:15 and 12:30ish EST and promptly received both email messages for each order and the text messages. The shipping date on the emails both stated 9/21 ship dates.

I am guessing the 9am PST cutoff maybe a bit of a gray line vs an absolute cutoff.

Have you ever heard of something called batch processing? Certainly order statuses and updates and emails can still occur if Apple is fulfilling orders today. By the way, today is Sunday morning where I am and that makes it Sunday night in China. Do you think fulfillment ceases on Sunday there? If so, then find solace in knowing it will be Monday morning there in just a few hours.

In the grand scheme of things, is it really all that important to be the first on your block to have this? I'll get mine on or about Oct 3. I'm pleased to have it then. I want it for what it can do for me, not for some fleeting pseudo-prestige of being the first to sport it around my office wondering how cool my coworkers must think I am. Sheesh.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I couldn't care less about looking "cool". I'm just excited to play with my shiny new toy. I have a one-year-old, so most of the new toys at my house are brightly colored and make annoying sounds. Which, I suppose, the iPhone can do as well...

I see in the apple pre order thread that some ppl are reporting that their orders are either being shipped, or ready to ship via ups or fedex, instead of pending. Has anyone that ordered through AT&T had their orders updated to shipping yet?

I don't think you have to worry about a T&C then, when you order online you apparently have toagree to it then :)
 
awesome status!! this debunks all the rumors about cutt off date

I ordered 2 iphone 5's: one at about 830am on the 14th. I have a pending shipment status. Im good to go on this one.

Now this: I ordered my second Iphone at about 330pm the 14th. I have a shipment pending on this one too! I checked UPS.com using the mail innovations selection and I have a package matching this reference.

Both are 16gb, early one is white, later one is black. Ordered through ATT site and im a Premier customer due to my employer.

This kinda looks to put the rumor mill to rest on the cut off times and such.

No, the CSS email will have a link to view your Customer Service Summary in it and the subject of the email will be 'Information about your AT&T plan'.
 
Don't put your faith in ATT rep, chat or over the phone. They said different things. I don't think they know anything much as of this time. Nobody knows if you will get your phone exactly on the 21st or not when they said it will "
ship by" or "arrive on", that's totally different things.

Anyone who has "processing" and "pending shipment" quote should not be worried. However, any of those who has "attention" or something about payment, billing address failed, should be worried a bit as it might delay your order.
 
Ordered at 7:30am CST on Friday and today my order is processing. I checked my credit card and can see the full amount has been charged. Have not gotten any emails other than the initial one from AT&T. Do you think there is any chance I will get it on the 21st? Can't wait to ditch Android!
