Well, I was one of the ones who waited WAY too late to order it and get it on release day.

About 6 PM from the AT&T site to be exact on the 14th.

Now, the order status page had a 1 in the column for QTY BACK-ORDERED since the day I ordered it.

Now, that one has been replaced by a 0 today.

Of course, no other update, but my impatient butt is hoping it means good news. LOL...

Rat-Boy! Please join us in our commiseration as we wait for our orders to show shipment information. Mine came off of backorder on Saturday night :)
 
Nothing against anyone here, but every time I see someone who pre-ordered after me get their phone shipped I grow angrier. Hulk smash!

I agree with you! Ordered 14th 3:40am EST :mad: order 1504 . NO EMAILS, nothing. Called a couple of times last week and only b**** information from them. ATT is not even admitting they screwed us (always blaming Apple). Called today to ask for a different line to get an early upgrade (3 months) and I said that I was REALLY ANGRY because they screwed my pre-order, but no-go "only 1 month we can accept to move the upgrade date" :mad::mad::mad:. Order out of backorder some time this weekend. Let's hope I'll get this week.. but until now no shipping confirmation, only "pending shipment" for both phone and card. oh it's a black 16gb iphone. Next time I will try from Apple, never again from ATT.
 
Mine is also EXTP889982. But, has anyone else with an EXTP order number (or any other order number) noticed that the last four numbers of the order number are the last 4 of your social security number? Mine is. I wonder where that puts me in line...:rolleyes:

Mine isn't even close to my SS. You just got fortunate I think.
 
Ordered 9/14 a 16GB white at 10:45am EST over the phone. Order number 9041. Went off of back order on 9/21. Just checked again, still says pending shipment.

Just got off the phone with a very nice CSR (think they are rare) and even though he could not cancel my pre-order, I asked to get my upgrade fees waived and he did consent to that. At least I get something from this desperate wait : )

My 9041 just went of backorder OMG! Was really losing hope that we would have it anytime soon.
Ordered 9/14 by phone 9 am est, my order date shows 9/15 because I didn't accept the terms until then. 16 gb & 32 gb both in white, also had an upgrade override on one line.

I ordered a 32gb Black iPhone 5 on AT&T's website around 7pm EST on 9/14. (Yes, I know...wayy wayy late). The charge on my cc came a few days later. Up until this morning, I was "Processing" (even at 5am!) but I checked it around 8 am or so and I was "Pending Shipment" with QTY 1 Backordered, including the sim...etc. A few hours later, I check my bank account and see that the cc charge is gone. Money is back in account, and I am back at "Processing"....?! I don't understand. :confused: So I really have no idea what's going on. If the first four before the dash is our group number I am in 7095. Which is also weird because before today I was 7085. :(

I know, I know 0 can mean days to receive a tracking number, but I'm no longer 1, and that's promising. Plus got my update fees waived!:D

Via support chat last Friday I was told:

Lonnie Lopez: Unfortunately there was a technical error and the 'arrival' status of today was a shipping date.
Lonnie Lopez: Your orders will ship today and you will be provided with a tracking number when the orders ship.

Lonnie Lopez: I show that your orders are in place and are due to ship today.

Support chat today says, no it's not going to ship because it's back-ordered. I don't know why she told you that. Subject to availability, blah blah blah.

So the story used to be Oct 5-14th, now the story is 7-18th.

Cancelled order, placed order with Verizon. **** you AT&T.
 
My story

Ordered 4 of them online at 8:30 am pdt (it's daylight time people). I had to do 4 separate orders, to upgrade each phone. I upgraded mine to a white 32gb. Also ordered 2 black 16gb and 1 white 16gb.

I was quoted 14-21 days, but much to my surprise one was delivered on the 21st, the black 16gb number 0754 (the 3rd one I ordered, and the second black 16gb I ordered). I never received an email or shipping info for it. The other 3 are still "processing", states order date of 9/16 for some reason. I have never seen the word backorder anywhere on my order status page, so I have no idea what everyone is talking about.

Also, I got emails from AT&T on 9/19 with a different web order number, citing 14-21 days. Seems like AT&T got all the orders from the first 24 hours, threw them in a hat, and pulled them out one at a time until they ran out of phones. Such a random process. Still, I love AT&T's cell service and customer service.

FINALLY got the email from AT&T that my iPhone shipped!

Clicked the tracking number and it is being shipped NEXT DAY by Fedex! Should have it by 3pm tomorrow!

We're like order twins lol, Yes it's very promising, I'm hoping since it's Monday there shouldn't be much time in between backorder switching to 0 and getting tracking #. Either way I am so excited!

Do you mean the $36 per line upgrade fees?
 
Method of the Madness

Been reading this thread for a while... my apologies for the long post, but I did find out some interesting info.

My pre-order was placed in store at 1:30 PM EDT on 9/14 (32GB, Black). I'm still stuck at Back-ordered: 1.

Anyways, here is what I just found out from a my talk w/ a CSR manager that may explain a lot. Apparently they may be telling the truth when they say orders are processed on a first come-first served basis. But this applies only to the specific warehouse that will be fulfilling the order, not necessarily to ATT as a whole. Nationwide there are at least 12 different warehouses that the manager was aware of. This could explain why some orders were processed before others.

I have no idea on the breakdown of how the pre-orders were divided up geographically etc... For example, the manager said that Ohio was served by the warehouse in Ft. Worth Texas, but that there was a warehouse in PA that was much closer. I wouldn't be surprised if the first few digits or the order numbers are used to indicate which warehouse will be fulfilling the order. Somebody else may have some more insight into that.

In store orders are processed through a different system than the online orders. I was told a smaller number of phones was allocated to in store pre-orders than for online. This would explain why few (if any) people who pre-ordered in store on 9/14 (even at 9 AM EDT) saw any movement w/ their pre-order status for a 9/21 delivery.

Other bits of information and some opinions:
1. It is not possible to cancel an In-Store-Order by phone, but should be possible to cancel the pre-order at the store where the pre-order was placed. The manager even offered to call my ATT store to tell them I would be coming in to cancel (FYI I'm not actually canceling the order, but wanted some sort of confirmation on my options assuming I come across a phone at a brick and mortar location).

2. The 16BG phones were, according to the CSR manager, by far the most popular for pre-orders.

3. ATT is probably doing the best they can given the logistics of how their distribution system is organized. This is also likely why the same mess happens every time a new iPhone is released.

4. Their distribution system is not capable of handling a massive iPhone pre-order without tons of inconsistencies regarding shipping orders on a FIFO basis as a whole.

5. The whole thing is still a huge mess and I still don't have my phone, but it helps a little to have some possible rational explanations for it.

6. Be nice to the CSRs, they are most likely underpaid and are definitely over-stressed right now (and don't expect to get any real info on when your specific phone(s) will ship, they do not have this information)

As usual, all of the above info/speculation should be taken w/ a grain of salt, (except for being nice to the CSRs) there is no way to know for sure how accurate it is.
 
So question: How come some people's got processed later than they actually bought & paid?

I bought mine the 14th @ 1:30 PDT... and it shows the 17th is when I ordered...

That's a lovely 3 day difference. Why is that? I used my debit card that has more than enough funds... like what even?

I just want my gosh darn phone- like everyone else.

I'm about to pull a Jesus and start tossing tables...

Yes, twins...funny!

Yes I figured I could get some type of credit for the delay and called 1-800-331-0500, and got the the upgrade fee waived for both phones. The CSR was really nice too (which is not common).

Let me know when you have movement in your order, I'll do the same :)
