I think this is why a majority of us are upset; I ordered mine on 9/14 at about 1pm PT and my status is still backordered. Meanwhile yours, ordered roughly 9 hours after mine, is shipped. This is definitely not first come first served as claimed and promised by AT&T. They haven't lived up to their end of the bargain.

One thing i learned in past few days, in future always order apple product from apple directly.

I think we're all pissed because the system is so screwed. Like I've said, I ordered at 3AM EST on 9/14 right when they went on pre-order. No issues with my account, no TC issues, no credit issues, order says 9/14...and yet, here I wait, still on backorder. I mean seriously, WTF?

----------

It seems to me that people who ordered 32GB or 64GB are getting their phones before the 16GB. Hmm

Seems to me its the opposite.

Fugg you, AT&T

Preordered at 1:30am PST on the 14th, got my email and text saying "Congratulations!" at 11am, and havent heard a damn thing since. The status slipped into Backorder 1 last week, finally came off Backorder on Saturday and still no shipping info. Spoke to three different CSRs, each with a completely different story. Kindly requested some form of credit towards upgrade fee, flat out refused.

A good guy working at a nearby RadioShack did me a solid and tracked down 2 16g (black and white) and my girlfriend is over there right now signing us up to Verizon. I'll be canceling my AT&T service later today or tomorrow. Those *sswipes just lost both of our accounts, which were at least a decade old. Good riddance.

PS: I'll probably get my tracking info tonight :/

nope. Still waiting on my 64 White ordered in the store 9/14 at 2pm EDT - promised 14-21 days. Off Backorder on Saturday late afternoon. But I noticed last night after post here advised checking Autopay that my CC expires this month. I updated the CC, paid the balance early, and called billing today to make sure all is well and there's no hold. Still no tracking though.

Nah... I think you are missing the point. I didn't mind waiting for my phone so much but it is frustrating that people who order online post the 14th or later in the day than me are getting theirs already. The 'first come, first serve' basis is flawed. Their systems were flawed. The whole roll out was flawed. A lot of people on this thread are stuck waiting for phones and some unable to cancel. Meanwhile, there's inventory elsewhere. People who were proactive and waited patiently for their phones are being stripped of their options; hence, the frustration. It is understandable and warranted. Yes, it is pety to some extent but there is a degree of customer services that businesses should adhere to nowadays and from what I've seen it has been disorganized and subpar.

Like I said, the process is far from perfect! If you got the 9/21 promise and you are still waiting, raise hell! Otherwise, it seems like the 14-21 days promise is being kept.

It does appear that they are fulfilling the pre-orders first now. No ATT stores in my area have gotten any new inventory since 9/21, yet pre-orders are still going out. May be a different story in your area, though.

I'll keep (im)patiently waiting for the 2nd phone on my order!

Nowhere did I say people did not have the right to vent. In fact, I said that a lot of people DO have the right to complain.

My main point was about people who were not promised a 9/21 delivery date complaining/getting free money from ATT. It seems that most of the 14-21 days crowd are getting their phones well before the estimated dates. In fact, I ordered 16GB black and a 32 GB black on 9/14 around 7 PM EST and was promised 14-21 days. The 16 GB order will be arriving tomorrow (that's only 12 days), but I'm still waiting on the 32. I'm still confident that I'll get the 32 before Friday.

I even admitted that the pre-order process was far from perfect. It's just not nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be.

I can't leave this thread! It's provided me with hours of entertainment while I (im)patiently wait for my phone! :p

That's when I ordered my phones. 7pm on 9/14. But AT&T PIECE OF SHYT system apparently has me ordering on 9/17. Makes no sense why yours went through at 7 pm and mine took 3 days to go through. No sense whatsoever.

Your orders off back order and went out and got phones? That was stupid. But to his and her their own. Just saying now your taking up an order for others wasted. You had a phone assigned to you.

And another day goes by...

Still no tracking info. Went off of backorder on Friday evening. Ordered in store 1:00pm EST 9/14 (16GB wht) and was told it would ship on 9/21. I understood going off backorder meant a phone was assigned to my account, so uh, where is it?

I have had two very very very unproductive days at work because of this!

Only 3 hours after yours (7 est = 4 pst). And I'm still waiting for MY phone (the one that shipped is my wife's) It is frustrating, but ATT covered themselves in the order confirmation email:

"The actual shipment date and receipt of your order is not guaranteed and may be subject to delays for reasons that include, but are not limited to, product availability, inventory, credit issues, number porting or carrier delays, and completion of other required AT&T business processes."

Obviously not the best card to pull on a customer relations standpoint, but still a valid disclaimer! From the volume of pre-orders that they had, I'm surprised they're doing as well as they are!

Hey...I call today very upset and telling I will cancel my service on friday if I don't receive my phone, and ?? what! I have tracking number now but USPS Whatttttt!!!!!! they have some logistic problem to use USPS. Crazy..Let me tell you this..I order a 3:10am my local time, went I spoke to the CSR the came with the excuse that the email I receive of the term and condition say I will receive the iPhone 5 in 14 to 21 days..My email doesn't said that..so I tell the CSR to spread the message to the people in charge and I think he did. Now let see if I will receive the iPhone tomorrow or they send id by ship LOL:)

Hey Guys,

Sorry if this makes other people sad or mad, which is not my objective, but I just got shipping info from AT&T. My order number started with 1406 and I ordered on the 14th at 3:35 am EST and having it ship to Miami tomorrow at 3 pm. Hopefully this helps you guys and gives you hope.

Hope everyone gets their phones real soon!

P.S. AT&T still Sucks!!

My phone went off of backordered some time today. To recap my situation:

32GB Black, ordered 7:30am, email immediately afterward, text at 2:30pm.

So hoping to see some tracking numbers tomorrow.

Understood but there is still no explanation on the gaps in their process in regards to "All orders are processed on a first-come, first-served basis." It is all over the place and people are trying to find some understanding over this... I still don't get it.

There is absolutely no guarantee it would've shipped within the next week. There are people who went off backorder last Friday, or people who were never on backorder at all, and they havent even received so much as an email! First come first serve, my as*. I want nothing to do with AT&T anymore. Its not the waiting that bugs me, its the blatant irresponsibility of not informing us or apologizing for the delay, with salt on the wounds from others receiving their phones when they ordered much later.

Call me stupid if you want, but Ive got my new phone in my hand and never have to deal with ATT again.

Thanks for the update. Not mad or sad, but slightly hopeful. I, too, ordered around the same time as you. Also in the 1406 group (for whatever it means). Might I ask, which model did you order?

See, that's part of the rub for me. My e-mail notification didn't indicate anything as you've pointed out. It reads:

ANDREW *****,

Congratulations! With AT&T, you get the nations’ fastest mobile broadband network* and the best coverage worldwide - more phones that work in more countries**.

We have processed your order and it has been sent to our warehouse for shipment.

Your order cannot be changed or canceled at this time.

We’ll send you a confirmation email as soon as your order ships. Check your order status online at www.att.com/wirelessorderstatus. Note if your order was placed within the past 24 hours, the order information may not yet be available.

Thank you,

AT&T

This is the only notice I ever received from AT&T. I was geeked, because I felt so confident I'd have it 9/21. Can you understand my frustration now, and the fact that my inner child is having temper tantrums? Maybe he needs a drink as well!:p

I agree, for the most part, however, with most 'pre-order' products, you are guaranteed your product before retail customers can drain the supply. FIFO.

For example, if I pre-order FIFA 2013 or any video game, I expect to get that game shipped or delivered to me on release day or waiting for me in the store for pick up, where they've saved my copy for me. I do not expect to be told that they oversold the pre-orders and I would have to wait for supplies to replenish while watching the 'johnny-come-latelys' walk in and out of the store with copies while I am tethered to some pre-order agreement, that limits my own options. Pre-orders are generally done to guaranatee product to those willing to commit early.

Maybe it is a case of more appropriate wording like 'pre-sale' instead of pre-order. Maybe they should have a presale for launches (5 million sales estimate...set aside 5 million phones for pre-sale...all else beyond that...pre-orders.)

That being said, I'm sure people are simply using this forum as a vehicle to rant and release frustration with people who share their frustration. I'm certain no one's world is falling apart because of the clumsy nature of this launch. I don't have a problem with that and am certain that aside from reading their posts, if you ran into them at lunch, you find them as normal as tthey generally are.

Obviously this isn't water or food...but it is $$$ and there's nothing wrong with being upset with not getting what you paid for when you expect it. Last time I checked, iPhone prices are not trivial enough to be aloof about and not inspire a little rage when not delivered reasonably.

Good point on the "pre-order" thing. It may cause less confusion if it was more aptly named. However, this is the same way it worked for previous iphone releases. The sales guy at the ATT store even explained it to me.

I know forums are for ranting and frustration venting. The main thing that disgusted me is seeing people get 250$ credits from ATT when they got the 14-21 day quote and considering keeping a phone that was shipped to them even after they cancelled their order. Stealing bothers me....weird, huh?

I'm not mad. I get excited for everyone when they announce they've received (or will receive) their phone! Congrats and please enjoy it. :D
