You really screwed up ordering one, if I was in your shoes I would've found one in a store rather than ordering one.

Just received tracking number. Overnight shipping, arriving tomorrow before 3PM. I'm group 1406 16GB Black. I ordered at 12:15 PST on 9/14 and was off backorder saturday evening. My dad ordered 2 minutes after me but hasn't received a tracking number yet so I think the order they ship out is random. Good luck to everyone else.

I was promised 14-21 days so it's early by that standard. I ordered in store because I've been ATT customer <1 year and that required a deposit for a new line - Apple can't take deposit on preorder. I knew from last year that Apple ordering process was better. Last year I ordered my first phone thru ATT and ended up going back to the store and buying one there after talking them into cancelling the store preorder. It doesn't seem right that they can take a preorder in the store but customers coming into the store later get one first.

To recap - ordered in store (so ok'd T&C there) at about 2pm on 9/14 - promised 14-21 days. Added a new line (ATT rep suggested NOT to hinder order with # transfer - we can do that after I get the phone - especially since I'm taking the new phone and handing down my 4s.) White 64. I've been slowing moving family phones from old carrier to iPhones with ATT. Went off BO on Saturday. Cleaned up my autopay last night. Prayed to the captcha gods about 500 times (but no singing). I really do appreciate your company while waiting!

Next step: schedule Guru to get my AppleCare+.

This is the only notice I ever received from AT&T. I was geeked, because I felt so confident I'd have it 9/21. Can you understand my frustration now, and the fact that my inner child is having temper tantrums? Maybe he needs a drink as well!:p

Yeah that's pretty crappy! What time did you order? My inner child is also misbehaving, but that doesn't mean I'm going to call ATT and demand money! I will sit here and wait and live vicariously through my wife's iPhone 5 experience!

Sorry if this makes other people sad or mad, which is not my objective, but I just got shipping info from AT&T. My order number started with 1406 and I ordered on the 14th at 3:35 am EST and having it ship to Miami tomorrow at 3 pm. Hopefully this helps you guys and gives you hope.

Good point on the "pre-order" thing. It may cause less confusion if it was more aptly named. However, this is the same way it worked for previous iphone releases. The sales guy at the ATT store even explained it to me.

I know forums are for ranting and frustration venting. The main thing that disgusted me is seeing people get 250$ credits from ATT when they got the 14-21 day quote and considering keeping a phone that was shipped to them even after they cancelled their order. Stealing bothers me....weird, huh?:confused:

Not weird at all. I have no intention of seeking benefit or reward for things I haven't invested in or worked for. Bad karma. You get what you deserve...get greedy, take more...pay more, down the line. While seeking reimbursement for your 'trouble' seems reasonable because it isn't illegal, is fine for some, I'm certain for many, it is unethical. (I am referring to those who would specifically call ATT to shakedown their CSRs for more 'gimmes'.

I tried to order six times online and finally was able to complete the process near 11:30AM, CST. The e-mail arrived roughly two hours later. That was it. I thought, great, done deal. Began my wait.

I've contacted CSR's numerous times since, wondering what was going on with the order, and was there some delay that needed to be brought to my attention. Nada. Never once demanded anything from them--just the assurance that I would be receiving my phone. If anything, I was quietly hoping those who were canceling would bump me a bit faster. :D

Took 5 days to get tracking for me. I'm the longest I think

As of today, time from BO 1->0 to tracking is ranging from 3 hours to 3 days. It appears pretty random. GL.
 
Thanks for the update. Not mad or sad, but slightly hopeful. I, too, ordered around the same time as you. Also in the 1406 group (for whatever it means). Might I ask, which model did you order?

It went off back order on Saturday around 6 pm and got the tracking # today at around 6pm as well. So about 3 days to get tracking info. I know, feels like forever right? Hope you get updated info really soon!!:eek:

If you were referring the $250 credit that I mentioned in my post earlier today, please note that I never asked AT&T for a dime when I called them. I asked them to correct an error in their processing system to ensure that my order was entered into its proper place in the supposed "first-come, first-serve" queue (although I think we can all agree at this point that AT&T's concept of FIFO is closer to FUBAR).

In lieu of resolving my issue, they offered me a credit large enough so that I would willingly give up my rightful place in line. Again, I never asked for any type of monetary compensation, and frankly, I was shocked when she threw out that amount. But when someone offers you $250 to get you off the phone, you say thank you and hang up.

ATT failed on my other order through ATT Premier, ordered 9/14 at 7am PST. Didn't bother calling unitl 9/19 when it was in attention status because of my unlimited data plan, that one got processed 9/19.

I completely disagree. This preorder debacle has created a large time and expectations vacuum. Loyal customers should be able to voice their concerns with the expectation of receiving a gesture/token/credit showing mutual appreciation. I do not believe it is unethical or bad karma to call and politely ask for it.

I think Attention means that something about the order caused it to fail automation and drop to manual review/processing. Mine was in that, but luckily didn't last past the next morning.

And I believe that's what makes the FIFO thing so confusing. If you placed your order early and it went right into processing and to the warehouse awaiting stock, then you would get it sooner than someone who placed an order before you, but went to attention for a while, and then to processing after you.

That's also the reason some say to keep the order as simple as possible. (e.g. Order as a new line, and then get your number ported once you get the device - Only order the device on the order, then order accessories on a separate order.) The more difficult you make the order, the higher chance it will fall out of automation and need to be processed manually.

I understand your point, it's how cooperative business is done. I didn't get the impression from some other posters that their run on the bank was part of a business as usual, quid pro quo between a business and it's valued customers. I got the impression some people were expressing some very 'opportunist' ideals. Like war profiteers. Or looters. :mad:

Never again I am ordering from AT&T .
