You probably still will have an update when they come off backorder, since AT&T will probably still ship your two phones.
 
Ordered mine on Sept. 20th. Status now reads Pending Shipment. My adrenaline level just shot up big time! :D Maybe I will get mine by the end of this week, I just bought my case!

I also ordered on the 17th around noon, in store. I went off back order early tuesday morning. This morning I had Pending Shipment. I hope I don't have a long wait for a shipping tracking number.

I ordered mine 9/30 and have pending shipment already, but it's still on backorder, so I don't think that means too much.

EDIT: let me clear up what I said. I don't "pending shipment" means much unless it's off of backorder. So yours is probably on its way or will be very soon.

Went off BO yesterday afternoon and got shipping info this morning for a 16GB black which I pre-ordered in store on 9/17. Will be picking it up tomorrow at the store! Hopefully everyone gets their phones soon :)
 
The first order shipped and should be received today via FedEx. The second order is still on backorder.

My second order came off back order yesterday afternoon. The second order was placed on 9/17. 16GB White. The tracking number was provided today. It shipped via UPS 2 day air. No delivery date yet, but I would guess I will receive it by Friday.
 
32GB Black ordered in-store on 9/18. Date ordered showing as 9/19.

Came off Back Order late last night 10/2 (possibly early this morning).
Shipping Info appeared today 10/3 at 1pm ET (so about 12 hours from back order coming off until shipping info available)

Shipping with UPS on 2nd Day Air. Currently in Fort Worth, TX with just the "origin scan" 10/3 11:30am CT. No delivery date specified yet.

Update 1: It's now got a departure scan 1:14pm CT

Update 2: It's now got Arrival Scan 1:20pm CT at DFW Airport, TX

I ordered on the 15th. didn't get processed til the 20th and still on BO. Yesterday the person on the phone said could be waiting til Oct 14th....soooo.

The person I spoke to on the phone 2 days ago said I could be waiting to October 17th. My phones at home. Don't give up hope!

The first guy I spoke with said they were processing for shipping and the order couldn't be cancelled, and if I didn't have them by Friday to call back. Since they were BO and I didn't think they would be in my hand one week after ordering :eek: I thanked him for his time, called back, and got someone who was slightly more in touch with reality and cancelled the orders. I suppose it's technically possible for them to come of BO and ship today for Friday delivery seven days after orderting... And I want a pony.

Trying not to, I ordered two cases from Hong Kong and they are already here lol. This is ridiculous. If I would of known I would have to wait 3 days for it to process it I wouldn't of "pre ordered" radio shack has some in stock about 5 mins away.

Marcus - where did your shipment end up after it left TX? I think you said you're in NJ. I'm in MD so perhaps will land at whatever air hub is nearby (there is a UPS hub in Philadelphia). Just curious.
 
The date "processed" is when you get a text or email saying your order is confirmed and processed. It will continue to say "In Progress" until your order ships. Go to http://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/ and there you can check BO status.

I didn't receive a text/email saying that my order is confirmed and processed. Does that mean my order is still not processed? My status still says In Progress BO 1 Pending.
 
Farewell All! I have found an iPhone 5 at a local store.

Called to cancel preorder (from 9/14). The CSR informed me that we could not cancel because my iPhone was in transit and would arrive Friday. I pointed out that their page showed it was back ordered and it seemed pretty impossible to go from back order to the front porch by Friday.

After some typing and confusion he admitted his mistake. At this point I asked for the manager. Was asked what it would take to make me happy... Easy, cancel my order and give me my upgrade back.

I believe a read earlier that someone was quoted the Friday delivery date that was still on back order too... So anyone wanting to cancel may want to be careful of that.

All that being said... My new phone is being picked up for me by my awesome Dad and I shall swing by and pick it up after work. Can't wait!!

My Journey is Complete

Well, after relentlessly checking backorder status, complaining to CSRs on a couple occasions, waiting in line at the Apple Store before opening on Saturday morning, calling store after store about availability, and refreshing tracking info constantly for five days, I FINALLY HAVE MY IPHONE 5!

This thread has served as a nice place to vent my frustration of this whole process.

PS: I debated switching to Verizon, but after testing a coworker's iP5 on LTE in my office, I elected to wait it out. The AT&T LTE in my office (downtown Baltimore) blows both Verizon and Sprint out of the water. I'm at 7Mbps, which is nothing to write home about, compared to the 38+Mbps I recorded at my parent's house, but it's over 10 times faster than the 3G on my "old" iPhone 4 was in my office. I'm definitely happy I waited and stayed with AT&T.
 
Whats up people? I ordered over the phone 9/17. I called yesterday to complain considering first come first serve was NOT going on. I told the nice CSR that I have been a long time customer and that this was ridiculous. Not only did she credit my account, but she also put a rush on my order. It was off of BO last night and I'm just awaiting shipping info.
 
Alright y'all..... I've followed this thread for like 10 days just using y'all as my glimpse of hope and I think it's time to chime in.
So here's my story-
Preorder via premier 9/14 at 7am EST

Email confirm right away then nothing

9/20 I noticed they didn't have my apt number so I called and they said they couldn't change it I was stuck. I was a bit worried but he said I could call ups once it shipped in the next 24-48 hours and have them hold if at the hub.

9/24 Monday no change via the premier site so I called to see what was up. 3 hours being shuffled from rep to rep being told everything from 24 hours to 28 days. Excuse after excuse.... Apple didn't make enough, the orders were overwhelming, I didn't order before 8am eastern on 9/14 (I did though) and then the I didn't accept terms and conditions crap. I've preordered every flippin year and that's never had to be done. You check a bunch of boxes when you do your order!
I told them to cancel the order and the line I'm not in contract anymore. I was seriously gonna go to sprint and their service is crap here I live in Tampa and they don't even have 4g yet via sprint. But I was pissed!
The call was disconnected while on the phone with the retention dept and then I see and email saying my order was canceled but the line was still on my plan.

Go to best buy for printer ink. Saw the 5 there touched it oh la la etc... I knew my order was canceled so I thought hey ill ask if they have 1. They DID!!! 1... But my line said I wasn't eligible Til 2014. Wtf?!? I called att to try to get the upgrade eligibility fixed so I could get the phone.
Best buy agrees to hold it Til the next morning and I leave a little heartbroken calling att.

Rep I got was nice and polite and as I explained to her that they cancelled my order I needed my thing reset. She said no your order is here. I said no its not I'm logging in and I see it canceled. She said you ordered on 9/20 via phone. I said no I ordered 9/14 via online then she read the notes and said my T&C must have been completed on 9/20. I said wtf is this crap?!? I've never had to do that. She said I should have gotten an email with a link to do it. Nope. Never did. I actually haven't gotten any communication except the orig order confirm and the cancellation then the fwd if the other order I was totally unaware of that the rep sent me.
She said there was no way to cancel and she would waive my upgrade fee and such. I said att should be giving customers like a $20 bill credit on top of that for the premier customers that fell off the planet. She gave me a $25 credit. She admitted they f'd up and that my order was one that just fell through the system.
Had I not called on the 20th would I even have had an order?!?? Who knows!
So I was told by her 10/10-10/18 arrival. She said she would do a follow up call on 10/20 and if I didn't have it she would find one locally and make them hold it or bring upper management into it. I respected her kindness and honesty that yes indeed the screwed up hardcore.

The wait sucks but I just wanted to know WHEN to expect it bc I was given like a 6 week timeframe and I kinda have a life and stuff.

Idk about all of y'all but we have a 5 line plan. Our bill is $320 a month as well as a 2 line (per say) ipad plan on 2 of those at $125 a month. We pay att $450 a month!! We've been customers for 12 years! I've always preordered via them. I got my 4 2 days before release. 4S was 2 days after. I've always thought premier support was better than regular until like a year ago and it seemed to be more outsourcing to ppl that had no clue.

So... I haven't gotten any order correspondence regarding the 9/20 order but I can login to the one site and it shows BO 1. I ordered a black 16gb.

What have I learned here? Get it in writing! Signed by a person acknowledging what the statement says, if you do it over a phone get a name and id. Follow up and take notes. Keep calm yet assert that you won't be taken advantage of. That despite what I've denied and fought against my droid head friends I am an apple fangirl :-/ lol I must have the newest iPhone, ipad I'm cool with my 2, when I went to upgrade my MacBook I actually got a Samsung series 9 which had way better specs at half the price and looks surprisingly like a MacBook Pro minus the apple on the back (hmmm who's copycating who again ;) ) but I neeeeeed the new phone. Maybe they have brainwashing chips in the iPhones that make us all panic when a new one comes out and we must have it. I mean look at this madness! An almost 500 page thread on att orders alone! Is sprint and Verizon this back logged?

If your wait continues to stretch and you happen to did another one locally... They WILL cancel. I just cancelled today... Its just a matter of not giving up and talking to the right person... Typically a manager... And don't believe them if they give you a crap line about it being in transit (when it clearly shows BO).

xmarcuswildx is right, never give up, it is , after all, just a phone, and you will have one some time... it just may take a little longer than you hope...

I left work also at 3pm ....

  • held at airport until midday 10/2
  • delivered 10/3

Total 18 days (within the 14-21 days)
