ATT iPhone 5 Pre-order thread

I don't know if I would trust those managers. Who knows it probably would of been faster if you did that. Every store i called was out of 16 but had 32s. We were planning on going to Reno tomorrow and im from Sacramento, CA so i checked unpopulated areas around tahoe and found that store and they had quite a few according to him
Ordered mine last night to commemorate the passing of Steve Jobs. Picked up it up today at the Apple Store in Norfolk VA.
I think I may know what AT&T is doing.
They are taking people off BO early, thus making it extremely difficult to cancel a order(or preorder in my case.) This byes them time and diverts attention from their logistics ineptitude, claiming the delay is due to production shortages.

Why is it I can walk into an AT&T store and they have stock of the model I preordered? Shouldn't this be first come, first serve? If is wasn't tied to a business account and didn't have grandfathered unlimited......I would ditch their as* for this.

So, I spoke with a rep today, no breaking news or anything and I take everything they say with a grain of salt, but this is what I got. He said that the estimated ship date of my phone is somewhere between 10/11-10/22 (which I guess he's just going off of the 14-21 business days). And I think just to make me happy, he said that "oh, usually MOST people get their orders shipped 1 week before the estimated ship date." And I asked, the front end or the back end of the time frame? And he said the front end, so the 11th. If that were the case, it is less than a week before the 11th and I haven't even been taken off BO. He just said that I would probably be get tracking info in the next few days then... *cough* BS *cough*..... Hmm, how could I be getting tracking info if I haven't even been taken off BO yet. Oh well. I DID ask, so is there ANY possibility my phone won't be shipped until after the 22nd? And he said, in NO way is that even a possibility. That I will definitely get it before the 22nd. He did say that this 11th-22nd time frame applies to those who ordered 16gb's around the same time I did (20th) so I would assume they will be shipping out the batch from the 18ths-21st, something like that. BUT, as I said, I'm taking everything he said with a grain of salt. I will just expect it before the 22nd, and if I don't get it by then, I will be complaining for sure.
See- I spoke to a CSR today... They basically told me I was a liar about ordering the 14th because it says I did it the 17th.
& then they told me I could expect my phone closer to Nov.
Even though it's coming up to a month of waiting.
I've been off of backorder since last Saturday now. No shipping info.

Mine was also shipped about 11am pst today. It was shipped by ups next day air saver. How about you? It's a bit weird because it was scheduled for a tuesday delivery not monday.
So jealous, I also ordered on the 17th. A black 16GB and got off back order early tuesday morning and I still don't have any shipping status.

Well I meant getting a 32 online. I'm calling all of my local stores every morning to check stock.
I've called 15 stores every morning for the past week and a half. Since then, only one store did on one day (two 32's and two 64's, one in each color) and when I got there an hour later, they were gone.

Well y'all my time is over here. I decided to go to a sprint store just to see their options. Leaving att was like getting divorced and remarried. It took a lot of hardcore decision making with the hubs and I.
They ran the app to see if we'd need a deposit or not and it came back good. I asked how long to get a black 16 5 and she said she was double checking with the manager and walked out with 2 and said omg I have no idea how this happened but my manager had 2 preorders cancel and take 64g ones. She had them hidden under her shirt whe she came out being hush hush lol.
Then I said you buy phones back too right? Yep... iPhone 4S buy back price 250 EACH! I said F yeah sign me up.
So goodbye my dearest att. It's been real.
Hubs and I have our 5's and didn't pay anything for them. Walked out with an extra $100 credit. Typing this from it now.

WOW congratulations! They gave you $250 for your 4S? When I checked into reselling my 3GS I could only get around $30 for it.
Btw how we're you able to cancel your ATT order?

Something's not right. Even IF your order is considered a 9/17 order, you shouldn't have to be waiting until Nov. That's ridiculous. Maybe they are just overestimating so that when you get it earlier you'll be happy. They try to play it all smart like that... Anyway I would call and speak with someone else and see if they say the same exact thing. Seems like we are being told many different stories.

And also, the fact that you've been off backorder for a week... that's crazy... because technically if you're off of BO that means they should already have a phone for you.

Ouch, I don't know if I should just cancel my order and try the 10PM route or just wait it out. Seems like my area doesn't seem to have any in stock though... I wonder when the AT&T warehouses will get their next shipment in because 32GB blacks were gone off BO left and right last week. There was even someone who ordered on the same day as me 9/28 and got his like 2 days ago or something like that on here.
EDIT: I talked through chat with a rep and she said to expect shipping between now and the 29th, and I'm like "Way to be specific

I live in NY and I just checked and seems nobody has the 32 GB, some have 64 GB but I won't use all that space. First come first serve is laughable but if I don't have phone by Nov I'm def switching carriers.
Picked up my new iPhone 5 this morning! All I say is SCREW AT&T and their weeks of backorder!! I ordered one online at Apple.com a little after 10 last night and picked it up today! Promptly walked over to the AT&T store, cancelled my order and switched my new phone over to my primary line
I had no problem cancelling my order with AT&T and also cancelling the new line I created with that order too.....it all worked out!

I've been reading for several days, thought I would share my status and interactions with AT&T...
Premier order processed on 9/20, 16GB black still on BO
Been checking online, call customer support every few days to check as well. Usually get the same old "order is processed, expect an email soon with shipping garbage.
Spoke to someone Thu who assured me it was ready to ship, sensing more BS I asked for them to confirm and document in the notes. Called back Fri and was told the phone was off BO but the nano SIM cards for iPhone 5 are now on backorder. I mentioned that the local store has them, along with 64GB models in stock so could they just send the phone...like today, and I'd find a SIM. He said he couldn't cancel part of the order, only all of it and that even then I'd still get the phone and need to deal with returning it, paperwork, and credit after the fact. I've dealt with AT&T long enough to know that's a nightmare...
Anyway, still on BO, no end in sight and will wait

Yep. I'm so done with this. Tonight I'm going to see if I can reserve a phone at an Apple store with that 10pm thing.
I am done waiting for this dumb phone. This is ridiculous.
This is sorta ridiculous. Even though I just ordered on 10/3 seeing all you people waiting weeks after its taken off of back order is scaring me since mine is in back order. Especially when they still have so many orders to fulfill that ordered before me, I don't feel like waiting a month for it.
(Too bad I'm not near an apple store.)
