WOW congratulations! They gave you $250 for your 4S? When I checked into reselling my 3GS I could only get around $30 for it.
Btw how we're you able to cancel your ATT order?
I think it was partly because we were switching carriers. 3GS is kinda older so value probably isn't too high. Since 4S was the most recent model out so I think it got a better trade in. Last year at target my husband traded his 4 for $199 and all we paid was taxes on his new 4S.
I cancelled my debit card after calling my bank and asking them what to do since they had it in limbo and refused to cancel the order. My bank is overnighting me a new debit card. So they may not be willing to cancel but they can't ship the phone if they can't charge my card.
I plan to call Monday to cancel all lines and tell them again to cancel the order. They have to unless its either A- shipping straight from a 3rd party that they can't control the ship date and such which they've told me was not the case and B- if they have no item to sell you and cannot tell you when they will have it they can't hold you to that order and refuse to cancel.
I'm a law student I kinda know how to read the legal stufflol

So I gave up
After reading all the frustrating stories in this forum and AT&T forum, I gave up after one week of ordering a 16g I5 (phone order). I placed an order online (at 10:01 PM) and I am picking up my phone tomorrow. AT&T told me I can decline receiving the previous order or return the phone unpacked at the AT&T store and it would be cancelled automagically and the money would be refunded. Jesus Christ!! I never thought I'd have to do all this just for a phone.... For all those who are waiting or do not have time to wait, place order at apples website at 10:00 PM for next day pickup totally worth it.

If your "order processed" date is before the 21st and your still on BO I highly suggest you try cancelling, or do what I did, go to a store if possible and get one then just return the one they are shipping to you or refuse it and they will give you the money back.
Hopefully mine ships soon because I ordered the day after you a 32GB black along with an Otterbox case... Maybe I should've just bought the phone itself?
I think they'll ship the items separately if one is in and the other isn't. There's a status called "partially shipped" to that effect.
Yeah, I heard about that. There was also someone who posted in this or some other thread who ordered a case with one of his orders (literally the only other person I've seen do on this forum) and it came together with the phone. I find it odd that the case is on back order when the AT&T website shows it available to order now without a 7-14 day wait. I just don't want the my case to be the reason why it's still on BO, haha.

What phone did you order? My sister (her hubsand's name is under the account because he was able to put a 15% discount on it) let the account past due and didn't pay it until the 27th, and the next day I ordered from the last AT&T store I visited after going phone hunting. I just caved in I was originally planning to wait outside an AT&T store on launch day to buy it with a friend, and she couldn't go on launch because she had a tournament to go to and she ordered hers barely yesterday 10/5 a 32GB black at an AT&T store as well.

I'm off of backorder, have been for a full week now with no shipping info.
I'm debating if I should just cancel my preorder & then see if I can find a 16g white with the online reservation thing; but I'm scared that I'll cancel- and with my luck- not find a phone & be outta luck .

Ok well I'm on Verizon with an iPhone 4 and not up for an upgrade till December and they wouldn't budge. So I'm moving to an AT&T account, joining an existing business account because it's cheaper than a personal individual plan.
However, I was unaware that ONLY AT&T stores can handle business accounts. So finally when we got it all settled that I was an authorized user on the account and everything, initial preorder stocks were out at Apple and AT&T. So I thought I would try retail stores (remember, I still didn't know that I couldn't use them for business accounts). My local Target had one I could reserve. This was the Monday before release. Needless to say, I went there and reserved it. Thursday evening, someone from the store calls to say they came in and I could come pick it up starting Friday. So I confirm my account info with the rep and when he realizes it's a business account, he puts a halt and explains that he can't handle them. OOPS should've mentioned that before I placed the order.....luckily he was able to refund my deposit. So now preorder stocks are gone EVERYWHERE being the night before release.
I couldn't wait at an AT&T store because I couldn't waste my morning doing so the next day. So, I'm now relying on a lady that I know that works at a local AT&T store to grab one for me. She said she'd be able to so I held off on ordering one online (STUPID OF ME). The problem was she never got into work until at least an hour or two after they opened. So the couple of shipments they got the first week of release were gone before they got there. That was last week. So finally I just went in the store last Sunday and just placed an order.
Phew...sorry for the long story.

I'm having the exact same problem as you. Ordered on the 17th, went off back order the 29th, 16GB White.
If I were you I'd get one in store. I can't since I have a business account, but that's totally what I'd do if I had the opportunity.
But also like someone else said, not sure if you can cancel if you've been taken off backorder.

Was told 7 to 10 business days to ship, then when I called in they said sorry it was pushed back...
As long as the phone has not shipped you can cancel it. I ordered mine last night on apple website and got it this morning for pickup. Went over to AT&T and cancelled my order and the new line I had opened. Really simple ;o)
i still cant believe this is going on... i had mines canceled a while back and honestly have not even gone looking for another one..as i think someone here stated, the excitement of getting the iphone 5 has now died down, at least with me.. now im actually waiting for the samsung note 2 to be released..im threw with apple..my wife got the iphone 5 and honestly i am not impressed with what it has/does..other than the 1/2" screen raise its not really much different than my 4s with the IOS6 update...
Us white 16gb'ers are becoming the butt of all the jokes now... geez if I only knew that this was the doomed model I would've gotten something else... anything else! I would've rather paid the extra $100 for a 32 than wait a month.
Well, except for the twice as fast A6 processor, twice as fast graphics processor, double the RAM (1GB), LTE, faster and dual band WiFi, better rear camera optics, HD Facetime camera and being 30% lighter and thinner, you have a point about it being just a 4S with a 1/2" bigger screen...
