Finally! The day I've been waiting for! They sent me my tracking information at 8:35, it's being shipped today and will arrive on Wednesday! I order a black 16GB on 9/17 in store at noon. It was painful waiting this long but hang in there guys. There still hope!

I'm writing this message from my new 32gb black iPhone 5! 🙂 my 16gb hasn't been delivered so so I'm not looking forward to being on hold with AT&T to figure out why it's being returned to sender but it is what it is...

My 16GB white ordered (and processed) on the 9/17 finally got shipped. Have been off back order since 9/29.
Shipped today and supposed to be overnighted for delivery tomorrow.

surprisingly i think i actually got some info out of a rep ( i try a lot) over ATT chat... here's what he said..
"I believe Apple ditched the first come first serve policy and they are now trying to get the device to the customer by region and availability, even then I am not completely sure on their approach."

Wait...they give their orders to Apple and they get it to us? I thought AT&T just tells Apple what they need, Apple gives it to AT&T upon availability and then they send it to us.

It was a battle until the very end but I now have a 16gb white iphone thanks to Best Buy.
My story: Order at 12:30 p.m. on September 14th
E-mail confirmation same day
E-mail confirmation again on the 19th
My order date was pushed to the 18th
Back ordered status did not change EVER. Still showing processing today at noon.
I checked Best buy today on a hunch because I've been relentlessly calling Targets, Walmarts, and AT&T stores for weeks. The store locator said they had some in stock at a couple of stores. I called and they were being hush hush about it saying that they had 85 people who pre-ordered and they would be taken care of first. Call back at noon to see if they have stock. I called and waited, called dropped, so I dialed again and waited some more. At 12:15 p.m. I got through and they told me they had 16gb white but could not reserve it. I took my lunch break and hauled ass to get there.
They had it. But now my cancellation wasn't showing up. After 3 reps, a manager, and a 30 minute wait on the phone, they cancelled my pre-order and my upgrade was restored. Iphone 5 is finally mine and I can ship out the phone I sold.
Ugh I feel for everyone on this board. Good luck. I mean it.

i have no idea, i thought that as well, especially since most of the people say theirs have been shipping from dfw (at&t's hub), maybe theyre just trying to pass the blame, or the iphones are sent from apple to them with distinct order numbers....who knows

I ordered two phones on the 19th. 16gb - One in each color. Both still on backorder. Looks like some orders from the 18th are shipping.
So I complained and its shipped.

Looks like with the white 16gb's they are still taking care of the 17th orders... maybe just getting to the 18th's.
So I ordered a 16gb black on 9/19, still BO today. I leave the country for 3 weeks on the 24th. Who thinks i'll have my phone by then?

Update, Ordered white 16GB and white 32 GB late on 10/1. Order processed and showed online on 10/2. 32GB shipped today, arriving tomorrow. 16GB shipping tomorrow arriving the next day. Boom!
is there a way to get more detailed order status from apple if we ordered through at&t? like order number online, etc?
So... Ordered WHT 16 9/19 was processing for 2 weeks status then turned to pending shipping for the past 5 days - so I called asked what is the pending shipping status mean? they said when they get the phone then they ship it, but its still B/O (Supposed to ship between the 10th and 20th)
