Hey gang- don't know what this means but my status has slightly changed.

I ordered 16 g black on 9/18 from AT&T over the phone... Until about 20 minutes ago its always said backorder 1 for my phone and SIM card. Now it says 0 next to both of them.

Hopefully something ships soon:)

On the next 24hrs it should give u the tracking #

It will go to shipment pending, then processing, then a shipped with a tracking #. Good luck!
 
Your partially right. However, there is still movement of packages whether it is via ground or air. Just because its the weekend doesn't mean packages magically stop transit. UPS just doesn't deliver on the weekend. FedEx delivers on Saturdays, which is why I use them often.

The phone was actually delivered or picked up by UPS in DFW and arrived at DFW Airport and shipped out. All on Sunday.

I've worked at a company for 8+ years that does a ton of out-bound shipping through our warehouse but I'm mostly familiar with UPS Ground. I'm sure a facility with the volume of AT&T or Apple probably has people creating labels for packages 7 days per week but I am not aware that either UPS or FedEx makes pick-ups over the weekend.

If I were to ship a Next Day Air package from Texas to New York on a Friday it would have to travel over the weekend to make it by its scheduled delivery day on Monday. However, if I were to create that same label on Sunday, it would not be picked-up by UPS until Monday, pushing the delivery to Tuesday. I think that's what's happening with those above but I cannot speak to the shipping facilities at either of the above-mentioned companies.

I'd be willing to bet that's what happening as opposed to incompetence on the shipper's part, as was implied.
 
Very Little faith in this company

Long time lurker on this thread, first time poster.

I ordered a 32GB in black on 9/29. I couldn't pre-order though I'm chomping at the bit as much as anyone who did (Still using an iP4). My upgrade date was initially 11/1 and I basically griped and moaned and threatened to go to Verizon until AT&T pushed it up to 10/1. I figured I was a long time customer who hadn't upgraded early ever before and I was asking for one lousy month so I thought it was reasonable to ask this favor and they finally granted it with a note on my account at AT&T stating I could upgrade right away on 9/29. If they didn't want another 2 year contract over one lousy month then I was prepared to walk and I said as much.

I wanted to give a little insight into just one step of this ordering process we're all going through in order to illustrate how truly jacked up this company is that we're all dealing with.

When ordering, I would have wanted to go through Apple but given the circumstances of my upgrade eligibility I couldn't because apple wouldn't be able to look up my "note". So I had to order through AT&T. I did so on Saturday 9/29 and they said I should receive Terms and Conditions within an hour. I didn't but I figured I'd have it the next day. I didn't. I looked in spam, nothing. I called customer service the first time and they "re-sent" it to my e-mail. Nothing for another hour. I called again, they transferred me to the automated phone line where you can accept terms and conditions, it said there was nothing for me to accept, that my phone was activated, and to have a nice day. I assumed the auto-lady meant the phone in my hand and called a third time and explained what happened. The guy assumed I was a moron and said he would conference me in to the automated acceptance line and hit the buttons for me, he did, same result, "nothing to accept, your phone is activated have a nice day". He and the auto line promptly hung up on me. I called again and a guy gave me the website address to accept terms and conditions, it was under construction during the call. I was assured repeatedly this would be the end of it. I got the site up, nothing to accept on it. No pending order, nothing. I called again and the automated line to get to customer service went SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE in my ear and hung up on me. I called again and asked for a supervisor and told this whole story, they got me one. He looked into my account and pulled another supervisor over while keeping me on hold for 20 minutes to figure out what was going on. My order had been held and from what I understand I would get terms and conditions a little later because my account had been flagged for a lot of foreign activity in my area (Madison, Wisconsin) and a special team had to review my order before it could be processed and that team didn't work on weekends. I groaned, he said there was nothing they could do, I hung up.

My order went through on 9/30, Sunday, anyway, and I got the email for T&C acceptance, which was in my favor based on what I had been told and probably due to the efforts after the call of this supervisor but still, complete incompetence. Apparently the terrorist review team popped in after Sunday brunch to review my order.

My point is this is the kind of thing that can happen with this company when simply PLACING THE ORDER. It's no wonder you can come off BO and wait a week, every step for these people is a mine-field. And, if you call you get nothing but canned copy/paste responses to questions, completely unreasonable processes, and nobody having any idea what's going on or how to help you. I am not surprised that things aren't first come first serve at all based on my experience with them and I'm picturing our orders in a big pile of paper with a guy fishing one out at a time and seeing if he has a phone to fill it and if not throwing the order back in the pile. Literally if it was this on a large scale I would not be a bit surprised.

So, yeah, resign yourself to waiting, don't about other people's orders, just sit back and laugh at the idiocy. I went from "No. 11/1 upgrade, no exceptions", to "Come on in, place your order", to "You ordered something?" to "We don't know how to complete your order." to "We can't complete your order because you're a terrorist." and finally to, "You'll have your phone around your original 11/1 upgrade date." It's one big joke with these people. Laugh, everybody. Laugh! :D
 
Thanks for the quick response- it can't happen soon enough! One things for certain- I'll never ever again miss a camp out at the Apple store for the launch! This was the first year I didn't go and it's been a nightmare waiting on AT&T!
 
Off Backorder

Within the last 10-20 mins I have gone off of BO. I ordered on the morning of 9/18 16g white....I just scared my kids by screaming I went off back order lol :D

Yes that's good! It might be 24 hours, might be up to a week, but at least you know you're making progress and they have your phone in stock and ready to ship :)

Yeah from what others have said you should get an email with a tracking number, but you would probably see it show up in your order status first, if you're checking regularly.
 
So happy to see a number of 18'ers coming out of backorder. Maybe those on the 19th are next.... *fingers crossed* ! Maybe there is light at the end of this long, dark, never ending tunnel.

Yeah, you'll get an email when it's shipped and you have a tracking #. If there are multiple phones on the order, you won't get the notice until all of them have shipped.
 
So i just chatted with a rep from at&t and he tells me that all 16gb white's are sold out and they are waiting on apple to ship some to them he said it's day to day and he cant give me a time frame smh obviously the focus needs to be on 16gb now. never again will i order i'm camping out!!!!
 
Congrats on getting off BO you guys! It's great that your patience paid off because I know I would've jumped ship a long time ago :p

My 16gb black ordered in the morning on the 19th just went off of backorder in the past couple hours. My white 16gb is still on backorder. They were ordered at the same time.

I have been here for 4 and 4s and I am here again now. I had not posted yet cause I was trying a different approach (the slow agonizing process of waiting without talking), but I have been reading calmly.
Well my order just went off back order today.
Ordered blk 16GB 9/17 and pushed to 9/19
Checked status today as I did everyday and the "calm thing" just went off the roof.
Called AT&T at 5pm eastern and got the regular run over.
Checked order status just now to see the famous 0 under back order.
Now I am a little better as I know the worst case now, according to this forum, is getting my phone next week.
