I sat and watched the AT&T page countdown to the pre-order time. Somehow, with 15 minutes left, the site auto-reloaded and showed me the pre-order button. The site acted a little weird but I was able to submit the order and my email order confirmation came through at 2:59am EST. At this point, it's still listed as "processing."

My girlfriend ordered through Apple right after pre-orders started and, using the UPS reference number trick, we found her tracking information. I really wish I had pre-ordered through Apple instead of AT&T.

So here's my dilema.....

I'll get my phone when I get my phone. I was told 9/21 - if it comes Monday, great. If it comes in 14 days, great. But I started a new job and I can't take off at a moments notice to be home (and I'm not changing my shipping address - we all know where that got people). I just hope ATT lets us know earlier enough that I can arrange for my mom or a high school neighbor to be at my house for delivery.

No big. Neither FedEx nor UPS are likely to leave your package w/o signature. When you get your shipping notice call up and request p/u at the local depot. FedEx may insist on doing a delivery attempt. If that is the case either wait for the failed delivery attempt and then call back or you can try to preempt by calling ATT and requesting them to contact FedEx for you to request a hold at station.

UPS should be a little easier. Go to UPS and register for "My Choice." The basic service is free. This will allow you to hold the package at the station yourself -- should work, but ATT could restrict the package so if it doesn't work follow the FedEx instructions.

Both UPS and FedEx open at 8a and close at 9p weekdays so you'll have plenty of time to p/u at your leisure. FedEx is open short hours on Sat AM. Most UPS depots are not open for p/u on the weekend.

Next Day

New day of hysteria...so what did I miss?

Let me guess, everyone is still clueless as to what is going on with AT&T pre-order shippments?:confused::confused:

i wanted to go through apple, but they kept saying "can't contact att, reserving phone".... took them 4 hours to get back to me to complete the order, 3 hours after i already made the order with att.

As I said...I'll get my phone when I get it - but if Fedex attempts to deliver on Friday and then I have to wait until Monday.....that's when I'll be upset. If I can get it Friday night or Saturday - fantastic! I don't mind waiting - it's just the 'not knowing' that's killing me.

What do you want us to tell you? I'm assuming you are read just as well as any one on this forum. ATT hasn't gotten to your order yet. Reeeelax. If you don't see movement by late tomorrow then start to worry.

i know!it's like waiting for the SNES!! jajajaja!!"La fiebre"

Yeah, huge mistake. The only reason I ordered from ATT is I never imagined the iPhone would sell out in 1 hour and I wake up at 5am anyway. But Apple is always the place to order for "piece of mind." ATT could not care less about its customers or encouraging them to "love" the brand.

I am beginning to think the people that ordered the 16GB versions will get theres, but the 64GB/black orders are going to lag, maybe Apple isn't going to allocate as many as these to ATT. It would make sense, I imagine the margins on the 64GB versions are higher than the 16GB so Apple would probably want to sell the most of those themselves.

Nah. I've seen people w/ 64s in this thread announce status changes. It has nothing to do w/ profit margins. To the shipping crew, they are all just boxes they need to move. There is a method to their madness, we just don't know what it is. But way too early in the game to lose hope.

I was in this boat. I wake up at 4am everyday. This should teach me next time.

You didn't read what I wrote! If it's FedEx you call once you find out delivery was attempted. You can p/u that night or first thing in the AM. You don't have to wait until Monday if the 1st delivery attempt is Fri.

Maybe your right, now that you mention that, I do remember a few white/64GB ones going off backorder, but not any black ones....

I've been trawling through the forum and can't find an answer to the question - what's the difference between upgrading your iPhone via the Apple store and AT&T (or other provider)? Any?

For retail customers, the only difference is Apple is more communicative as far as shipping status goes. However, business customers and customers who get an affiliate discount have to order direct though the carrier.

Nothing, except that Apple is better at keeping customers updated and informed of their status.

** Some users were unable to order through AT&T and retain their current services, but ordering through Apple let them keep their services (i.e. a text messaging plan that is no longer offered).

When a device goes from 1 backordered to 0 it means that they currently have one accountable for you.

This might be the general rule, although I'm not sure anyone knows this as a fact. Besides, there are exceptions to this rule... i.e. there are going to be people that get their phone on the 21st who never see '0' under 'backordered'. It happened to me during iPhone 4 launch (well, it may have changed to '0' on launch day when I received my phone).

So if you don't see a '0', don't freak out. What's more important is when you ordered.

I don't think this is true, as I have a FAN discount and was able to order my 4S through Apple last year. I planned on doing the same this year, but I didn't bother getting up at 3am. Unless you're referring to hardware discounts, as my discount is only service related.

My wife's 64GB White ordered at around 10:30am EST shows off backorder this morning. My 64GB Black ordered at around 9:30am EST still shows backorder. The odd thing, though, is both show a pre-order date of 9/15/12, which was definitely not the case. Premiere due to work discount it seems.
