I figured I would ask this here, but a GS3 a month ago and returned it on August 23rd for a iPhone 4S 32GB. I'm still within my 30 day window of return, and do you think they would let me return it and pre-order the new 5?

Today I successfully got my upgrade moved up 6 weeks to coincide with the iphone 5 release. It took some time talking to a customer service rep and had to eventually get approval from his supervisor. I used the online chat (instant messanger). They said if I pre-order this Friday I can early upgrade and receive the phone on the 21st. I find being courteous and professional with the customer service reps is a lot more helpful than being angry. Good luck to anyone else trying to have their upgrades moved.

That means you have to pay the subsidized price plus a fee of something like $200 because it's an EARLY upgrade. That's the clincher.

yep... exactly. I spent 4 calls to ATT today asking why I have been able to upgrade every year up until this year... they said to call back on friday.. i said friday would be too late unless they are able to make changes at 3AM

AT&T can kiss my @ss.

So let's do the math here.

I'm eligible for a partial early upgrade. So iPhone 5 64GB upgrade cost = $649.

To cancel my current contract. Pay the cancellation fee of $325 - $120 ($10 off each month full filled) Brings the cancellation fee to $205.

To get open up a new iPhone 5 64GB it would cost $399.00.

So really I could be looking at paying $624.00.

Partial Upgrade Discount = My [expletive deleted] = Full of *****.

and for all you out there that keep saying "you signed the contract", "you need to honor what you signed - they did" blah blah blah. You're just as fake as the crap you write. AT&T has benefitted tremendously from iPhone users. My biggest issue is them controlling how we can and cannot user our data plans. If I pay for 5GB of data, I should be able to use FaceTime, Hotspot and other features they don't allow. Even on unlimited data plans - they throttle after 3GB - I'm fine with that - however don't limit what and how I want to use my data. Let me use my 3GB and throttle me for the remaining month - that's fair. So AT&T can kiss it.

The least they can do now, is give me the dam phone if they're going to limit how my data usage is used.

AT&T - No Upgrade for 4S

Just got off the phone with an AT&T rep who informed me that they will not be changing the upgrade eligibility dates for those people who bought the iphone 4s when it was originally released. Also, I asked for customer retention and the rep had the nerve to tell me "it doesn't matter, they won't help you either."

It's good to see that being a customer in good standing with AT&T means something.

Wow! I logged in and it said my number may be eligble!

For an upgrade at full retail price. W_F? Discount in May of 2013. Their definition of an upgrade and mine must be different. That's GREAT. Yeah I'm a tech geek but NO WAY am I paying full price for that phone. Never was a problem when I went from 4 to 4S.

Hope they restructure this REAL soon. In this economy people want to pay that much? I know some will, but come on. Throw me a bone.

Overwhelm Their Support Depart.

Isn't it ridiculous. "Eligible for an discount" = not really.

Call their support department at Customer Support: 1-800-331-0500. Ask them why the upgrade discount since they see the need to limit how our data plans are used by not allowing for Hotspot or FaceTime on our current data plans? An upgrade is the least they can do.

so don't pay it, stick with your 4s.

"Great news! You qualify for an upgrade with a new 2-year commitment."

Incidentally, I checked my upgrade eligibility again today once the Apple Store came back up. I bought my 4S with the full subsidy upon release and I'm getting the full subsidy again for the 5.

Any 4S users able to upgrade without paying the extra $250?

Yes.

These discussions every year crack me up.

"AT&T won't give me an early early upgrade, I'm pissed off and leaving them for Carrier B".

They don't owe you anything, and their terms are clearly spelled out. Not to mention that carriers pay huge subsidies for every iPhone sold, enough so that it's a big impact on their bottom line each time a new iPhone is released (big enough that their quarterly earnings report tanks when that happens). So why, exactly, do you expect them to give you special consideration?

"AT&T always allowed special early upgrades during past iPhone releases. Why not this time?"

They did not always do this. If I remember correctly, they did this once, in 2011, when they lost iPhone exclusivity in the US and were motivated to take extra steps to hang on to existing customers who might want to jump ship for Verizon (especially those who previously left Verizon solely to get the iPhone). It was nice when it happened and I certainly took advantage of it, but I never expected them to keep doing it. Why would they?

Look, I have no loyalty to the carriers, and they suck plenty of money out of my wallet. I'd love to get an upgrade earlier than normally allowed. But none of the carriers are doing this now, and there's no reason to expect them to, or is there any good reason to whine profusely about it.

If you just need a few weeks extra grace period for your upgrade, you can probably talk your carrier into giving it to you. But no one is going to get months and months of time chopped off their wait for a subsidized upgrade. I'm confident of this.

Yes.

lucky. only getting a partial on my end.

Might this have something to do with the amount of money you spend with AT&T each month? I suspect they may do more for customers with higher-end data plans or more phones on their accounts.

I have two phones and two 3GB data plans on our family share, and we are not being offered early upgrades like this.

I suspect your case is a rare one.

I some how have an upgrade for this iphone even though my brother just got the Lumia 800 6 months ago using my line. Then again my phone bill is over 300 bucks so maybe thats why.

That's my thinking. I have one line of service, which I've had with AT&T since June 2007. I have grandfathered unlimited data, unlimited texts, and the 900 minute plan with rollover (I think). With taxes, my bill is usually somewhere between $125-$130/month.

I just posted this in another thread but...
At&t is allowing me to upgrade with a two year contract and $36 up grade fee via there site. Not sure if they have not updated my account or i'm just lucky.
I bought my iPhone 4s last year and my monthly bill is approximately $90 a month.
