Did you do *639# and saw the June date?

If so call cs and have them research your history. I had the same issue and I called up. They tracked date and found I was right. Fixed date.

Yes, I was told that in April 2011 my upgrade eligibility was June 2011 but it has since changed to November. Going to call back and try to have them change it.

Just curious, those who are planning on switching, what do you intend to do when the next iPhone comes out? We just saw a sixteen-month product cycle, so it's not always going to be the approximate twelve-month cycle we have been used to. So there's bound to be some lag time. Will you switch carriers again, even though you (yet again) knowingly sign up for a two-year contract?

I don't get it. Why go through the hassle of switching carriers if you can't wait five weeks? You'll lose any plans you're grandfathered into, and you can forget about any loyalty perks if you're a new customer.

What loyalty perks? I've been with AT&T for 5 years now with a family plan 2 lines; spend like $1700-2000 a year and want me to give them an extra $250 to have the privilege of buying it at launch time. If I wait it'll probably be nov 25 + 2-3 weeks shipping time since this will be sold out all over.

Down the road for the iphone 5 I will switch carriers if needed depending on who's giving the best deal. In all honesty, me switching will cost me an ETF fee of $235 between my two iphone lines and that pretty much washes out the $250 fee they want to charge me for upgrading earlier (my 2nd line is eligible for upgrade since it's only a 3GS bought over 1.5-2 years ago). If I did this, it would be out of spite at this point. I like rollover minutes and being able to talk/surf at the same time on AT&T however in my area North Jersey / NYC the Verizon signal will be better. Their monthly fees are about the same, and I average 500-800MB a month so my grandfathered unlimited data plan is not worth much.

I will call again Thursday and see if this date has changed.

So my local store said the best they can do is upgrade me November 1st instead of the 21st. Do you guys think that paying your bill has any impact on the date being moved?

Yes, it does. I was told this over the phone as well. I don't pay my bill exactly on its due date every month, but my service has never been turned off. That might be why I was pushed back, but I doubt it.

Before I paid my bill I was eligible it said if I paid it I could upgrade. After paying it pushed it back to Nov 21st.

They even called me today to get me to pay, the weird thing it wasn't even late yet.

They called you to pay and you were not late? Never heard of that before.....Usually they call when you are late. Never had a company call me to pay early....

12-month upgrades and a waived $18 activation fee, for starters...

Good point (although the $18 fee was never waived for me. I had paid that the last few times [3GS and 4]). Wheres it at now though? I'm in month 16 since purchasing the IP4 on 6/24/2010

Going by what others have said in different threads, it looks like it's still at $18.

Been with AT&T since 2005. New iPhone on every release date since the first one. Two lines and family plan. Now I can't get a subsidized upgrade until Feb 2012? Total crap.

I just called AT&T and was told that any feature/rate plan changes can affect upgrade eligibility date. I've changed both since April. I was also told that it can't be pushed forward. :(

I'm thinking AT&T is not letting iPhone loyalist upgrade this year because they all know that we will want to switch to verizon once a LTE iPhone 5 comes out.

They could of locked me in again this year but they chose not too. I don't feel like I'm missing anything with 4S except for the gimmick voice control.

Maybe it's for the best with AT&T dragging it's feet with LTE.

Hhmm. I did change my plan details twice, once to add unlimited SMS and then again later to revert to the base level. Wonder if that's what pushed me back to 11/25/12 (originally renewed on launch day).

AT&T's website says all iPhone owners can upgrade in 20 months. So that would completely screw the cycle of iPhone releases, we'd skip this 4s because by the time were eligible the next one is 4 months away. What's the incentive to not just quit att or do they want us to quit and clear up their bandwidth? Is losing a bunch of customers a tax write-off?

I think at&t wants to drop smart phone users and let verizon have all those customers that want LTE and the like.

Ha, AT&T is trying to lose customers...

As a valued customer, we can offer you a full upgrade with a new 2-year commitment and $18 up grade fee.

Now its:

Oct 4, 2011
A full discount on a standard device or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 02/16/2012. We can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a 2-yr commitment pricing +$250 and an $18 upgrade fee...

Assures even lower demand for the iPhone 4+. Sorry, AAPL.

I knew I wasn't crazy.

If this delay really is from apple, maybe they are trying to save our update for the iPhone 5 later this year? ;). Knowing how pissed the early adopters would be to jump on the 4s this month only to have an inaccessible 5 released the next month. So they block us all out, where only the people who don't give a crap or know the difference between models, jump in now? Wishful thinking...

I have a February date too. I wonder what the significance of November and February are, for those who bough the iP4 on release day. Shall we try to figure it out?

1. I bought the 3GS on release day.

2. I wasn't eligible for an upgrade for the iP4, so I paid an extra $200 for it.

3. I made my purchase at an Apple retail store on opening day.

Any others that are eligible in February have this same criteria?

I also made some plan changes. Just to data and text. I don't think these are drivers. I seriously doubt all of us February people made plan changes at the same time.

I bought the iPhone 3G 2 days after release day - upgraded to iPhone 3GS on release day with a new 2 yr contract and $18 fee, upgraded to iPhone 4 on release day with a new 2 yr contract and $18 fee, and now have a message stating I can upgrade to new iPhone at new customer pricing w/ 2 yr contract only after 11/25/11 - if purchasing before 11/25/11 I would need to pay $250 on top of that. I have not changed anything in my plan (other than downgrading from 700 to 550 minutes family shared plan since early 2009)

FYI I also had the same message back in April of 2011 this year when I dialed *NEW# to check eligibility and it stated 11/25/11 would be my date to get new customer pricing, but had no mention of the specific amount of $250 as it does now.

I purchased the iPhone 4 on the day it came out for the upgrade price with the 18$ fee waived. I am eligible for the 4S upgrade now but have to pay the 18$ this time.

Started off with the iPhone 3G a few years ago and updated every single launch day since. I pre-ordered the iPhone 4 and received it a day before launch. I just paid price for the discounted phone.

Upgrade Date: 11/18/2011

Bill: $150/month

Not cool :(
