Attention new MBP owners: Please perform this Yellow tint test

Has anyone had the yellow problem with the new 17" Hi-Res screen option. That is what i ordered and it has not shipped yet, but I was just wondering.

Thank

I'll find out and update this thread when I get mine this coming Wednesday. Ordered the 17" hi-res matte.

Don't think the 17's have ever (up to and including the LED models) been affected by this problem.

My 15" penryn is clean :)

Glad to hear you got a clean one, with the others having trouble and all.

Thanks for the info, hopefully that is a good sign for me. Been waiting to get it and don't wanna have to send it right back.

How can I tell what screen I have? I looked under system profiler and did not see it. I upgraded from a powerbook g4 1.5 1gb of ram to the penryn2.4 250hdd. Wow, what a difference. Also I put in 4gb of ram and ran geekbench again and my score did not go up. Any insight is appreciated. Love the forum, it is very helpful.
Thanks

My brand new 15" MBP is perfect....
and I have not seen a single entry in this thread indicating that anyone has a problem....

So.... If you have yellow... talk to Apple....

But lets not make this seem as if its an epidemic... because clearly it is not

My 9c82
manuf date is C2ADF080
it does not have a serial number listed.

Do you have the yellowing issue or is the screen fine?

Great to hear the news...the purpose of this thread is to allay fears regarding a "yellow epidemic" across MBPs by allowing people to verify and post about their screen's fine status :)
Could you kindly provide us your screen's model number? (9C81, 2 or 3)

Maybe you should re-read it then....

The yellowing has been, and remains, and issue that is not isolated to just a few people. Whether people who are not graphics/photo professionals notice the yellowing is a different issue altogether. They may not, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. What quality standard would you prefer: that set by people who really know what they're talking about because they work with color and lighting everyday, or that set by casual users who seldom notice the details because they're not sensitive to these things? Apple is obviously betting that the majority of users belong to the latter group and that it's cheaper to replace LCDs for the former group over and over again, than to ensure that all customers get good displays from the get-go. I think they're able to save a LOT of money this way - at our expense.

It depends on which way I look at it.

I've bought a 2.4ghz penryn friday. I have a 9c81 screen and a very very slight yellow tint on the lower left corner. Btw the viewing angle on LED screens emphasizes this. A good color profile makes it almost disappear. My gf can't see it. I wouldn't have noticed it without the test, and the machine is otherwise perfect so I'm keeping it.

My 9c81 also has a slightly darker lower left corner, but no yellowing. I think it's easy to confuse the two because whites tend to look more yellowish/brownish when they're dimmer. Besides that minor illumination difference and some bleeding that is visible under very specific conditions, the display looks great.

damn

9c83 and yellow is evident near bottom of screen...

Apple store (Grove) will NOT exchange for this reason (without charging restocking fee). Nearly all cosmetic defects will be answered with "it's within spec".

You have been warned. Maybe it's better to wait until they get a new set of screens.

A better way is to open the image with Preview and make it a slideshow by pressing CMD+SHIFT+F.

That way you don't have the menu bar or icons tricking your eyes.

It depends on who you talk to and how you talk to them. If they wont exchange it, someone else will. A defective display is not "within spec" on a $2000+ laptop. Don't take no as an answer. You're going to them to exchange it, you're not going to them to ask if you can exchange it.

9c83 here:( bottom 1/3 of the panel is tinted slightly yellow and dim. its a bto glossy 15. I really don't want to mail it back but i can't live with this mess.
